Police Department Needs HELP

I am sure all of you have noticed that I have been begging for donations over the past few weeks to help a local police department purchase a K9.

I am donating the year or so of training and I am looking for some financial help as far as purchasing the dog.

We have raised $420 here on Idog!!!  Way to go everyone.

I found a dog that is a great prospect and the breeder is only asking $800 (she would normally sell for at least $3000...he is feeling charitable).  I am asking for help from those that haven't donated to help me reach the goal of the $800.  We are so close.

Here is how to donate.  Go to [linkhttp://www.paypal.com]www.paypal.com[/link] and donate to micfoster@lastresortk9academy.com

Or mail check or money order to:

Below I will post some pictures of Rose.  She is the beauty I am hoping to acquire for the local PD.

Thanks again everyone!

So what do we all think of Ms. Rose?
• Gold Top Dog
Wow!  What a great looking Malinois!!  I have very little cash (former starving student, now starving member of the real world), but I'll try to scrape a few bucks together for a lovely girl like that.  Of course, if I donate to your fund, I have to send Glenda some $$ too for the MS walk. [;)]

That sounds good to me!  There both great causes!

Thanks so much...[sm=wink2.gif]

Awesome looking dog, Mic!

Hooray for girl power![;)]

She seems like an awesome dog.  I have to drum up some donations if I am going to acquire her.  18,000 plus members?  If 3% would donate a buck a piece I would be at my goal, and have some left over to cover my gas to Virginia.

How much more do you need?  Maybe you can get some local businesses to help.

We are about half way to our $800 goal.  I am going to ask some of the cops to each donate a little to see if we can get there.  Hopefully a few more Idoggers will pitch in too.  I am also waiting a few checks that for some reason have been lost in the mail.

I am driving to Virginia this week to check out Rose.  Three is some concern with her being to soft a dog, but I will find out soon enough.

Thanks againto everyone who donated, and please keepem coming.

Mic, you've said it a couple of times, a soft or hard dog.  What do you mean by that?
• Gold Top Dog
Too soft of a dog would be a dog that doesn't have what it takes to work. She'd back down too easily. A dog can be too hard, too. Too hard of a dog won't back down when called off. There has to be a balance.

Soft and hard can apply to lots of different things concerning a dogs temperament.  Where they apply in this situation is to patrol work.  A dog that is going to do patrol work daily can not be easily intimidated.  Dual purpose dogs are put into a number of high stress situations.  When a dog is in pursuit of a suspect, they are often struck by the suspect once they have engaged in a bite.  A soft dog will back off if struck aggressively, where a harder dog will actually bite harder and more aggressively.

Basically, I need to know that this dog will fight to the death to protect his handler, and a soft dog will not normally do that.  I have been told by her original breeder that he thinks she is to soft for serious patrol work.  So I am going to drive to Virginia and test things out myself.  As far as I can tell no one has really put in much work time with her.  I want to see for myself if there is anything I can do with her.

Rose is a beauty.

What an awesome thing for you to do to help your PD! You've already saved them at least $10,400, maybe they can dig into their pockets a bit for that last $400! I don't mean we can't, though.[:)]

I work for our PD and we have two wonderful canine cops. They're both GSDs, not Mallinois.

I hope Rose gets to be the one! Again, you're offer of training is fantastic!
