What will you be doing for the 4th?

I already started sleeping downstairs last night (even when we have AC, the bedrooms don't cool enough due to the vaulted ceilings). I am gonna have to go buy an aerobed tonight I am afraid...

Ugh, I know what you mean.  We have the high ceilings too and I've had them in the 2 story houses I've lived in and that can be really hot, even when the AC is working.  We actually had to buy a little room AC last year while we waited for ours to get repaired.  We put it in the bedroom and spent most of the day and night hanging out in there.

Like Joyce, we have the whole house fan and it really does a great job if the temp drops down at night.  When we hit the triple digits, it's usually not worth running though.

My boss gave us all Thursday and Friday off, so I'm thrilled to have a 5 day weekend [sm=dance.gif]

I will be signing last-minute papers, since I'm selling a house and escrow closes on the 5th!!!!!

    Sending smoooooooooth closing vibes! [:)]

We're heading over to my aunt's house (the one that has Jack the French Brittany). They're having a cookout and fun and games. They have a swimming pond (which Rupert loooooves). Then after dark we'll drop off Rupert at home and go to the park to watch fireworks. He should be good and pooped from playing with Jack and swimming all day.

Actually, I don't have a whole house fan. [&:][&:] I couldn't get one because the electrician said the wiring in the house was too old (40 yrs.) for something that used that much juice and I'd blow a fuse.  What he suggested was an attic fan (about $50 - $75 at Home Depot) and he set it to kick on whenever the temp in the attic hits 115.  You can't hear it at all from inside, but you can hear a soft humming if you go outside and stand under the attic vent. I like the fact that it runs constantly when it's hot and I don't have to be home to turn it on.

Ahhhh...I misunderstood but I know what you're talking about now.  Those are also a great idea.  Ours does suck a ton of juice when we run it, but it's usually only for about 10 minutes or so in the early AM.  It can seriously drop the inside temp 10 degrees in a few minutes if it's cool outside.  We usually just open the patio slider and the bedroom slider and it feels like a wind tunnel blowing thru [:D].  My boss had a new house built in Rancho Murieta and they have a "smart vent".  It senses when the temp outside is lower than the temp inside (based on your settings) and will kick on and bring cool outside air in thru the AC vents.  Sounds like a great energy saving  idea to me.

    Resting!

We are in our busy season for work & DH has been doing six days a week for quite a while. He'll just be taking the one day off. It's really going to be hot, so we made no outdoor plans.

Looks like I might be helping at the kennel instead of hiking with Gracie.  They took in 14 dogs on Friday... eek!

Yikes!! It's so nice you help though Paige!!

It'll be a new experience for Gracie, since she's never hung out in the daycare there.  They've got a couple of ADORABLE boxers right now that I would love for her to become friends with.  We shall see.  I just figured since I'm not committed to anything until the evening - and the kennel is half-way between home and the evening party, it won't be too tough. Again, we shall see.

Well, it's probably going to be one of the last few days I'll have a full day off with my SO (we live together but work oppositish scheldules, and he got a new job but will have to pull doubly duty over the summer working in his new store and transferring over his old one)....so I'm hoping we can just chill that day.  Weather permitting we might tackle a small hike together and BBQ later on, just the two of us [:D]

I maybe be grilling on the 4th, we may go see a movie. But if you are going to cook all of that, we may have to "accidently" wind up around Cowtown and follow our noses.

I plan to stay home and be cool. There are several celebrations I could go to around here but they all start in the middle of the afternoon and then after dark there are fireworks. Well it is predicted to  be 117 on the 4th and no way am I going to be outside in that. I could just go to the fireworks but if you wait until then it is hard to get a parking place so I will just watch some on TV and I can see some from my back yard but trees  block them a little.
