What will you be doing for the 4th?

What will you be doing for the 4th?

We do the same thing every year.  All of my family is coming over to eat, drink and be merry, hopefully around the pool if the rain will just stop already!  There is always tons of food.  I expect around 20 people.  This is the first time we will have it at my house.  My uncle sold his house with a pool and we bought one so it just sort of shifted over here.  We will have the Wii and guitar hero ready inside in case it rains all day.

We are getting a brisket and going the mexican food route for the 4th...brisket tacos....mmmmmm......corn salad, regular salad, guacamole, charro beans, pico de gallo, rice, and then some other good stuff like fried chicken, cole slaugh, cucumber & onion salad, lots of dips to snack on and 4 layer delight for dessert!  And we will make margaritas all day probably.

Does anyone have a favorite pico de gallo recipe?  [:)]

So does anyone else have anything fun planned?  It is interesting to hear what different people's traditions are for different holidays.

We usually do the same type of thing, although your menu sounds yummier than ours usually is.  It's supposed to be 100 degrees that day though and even with a pool, that's pretty brutal.  Hopefully the forecast will change a few degrees [:)].  I like the celebration part of the 4th, but I really don't like the fireworks part unless it's a big show type.  The ones people around here buy aren't much to see but pretty obnoxious to listen to and of course I always worry about the dogs [8|]

Throwing a pity party for myself b/c it's soooo close to getting Chopper but not happening yet.  Everything is planned and ready, now I just have to WAIT for a month.  Oh and it's supposed to be nasty and rainy here on the 4th.  [:@]  I'll sleep in, catch up on chores, and waddle around the house.

So far there's only a 30% chance of rain for Wed. So here's hoping it won't rain!

We don't have any traditions here. I usually just go with the flow. This year though, my family is coming to my town in the morning to walk all of our dogs in the parade (all dressed up in 4th of July costumes) to support our local dog park. Then we'll spend the day at the park, BBQ'ing and playing frisbee golf. Then it's on to fireworks at night - if we last that long. That's one heck of a long day! I'll probably be calling in on Thurs. ;p

    .

Sure do! [:D]  Six small cans of Ro-Tel, well drained.  Mix them however you want between mild, original and hot.  About 4 huge tomatoes, diced.  One big red onion, diced.  A bunch of cilantro - I snip mine with a scissors.  Dump it all together and add salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste. Serve w/tortilla chips and just drain it periodically.

No plans except to go outside and watch the fireworks from the driveway.

Hey Shelly - you still on vacation?  No AC in the RV?

Its going to be nice here around 87 to 90 degrees. So the family is going to swoop down on us. So I have to get the food ready, the deck ready, and the pool ready for them. I was thinking of a Hawaiian theme. I have no clue where to start.

Maybe I should just come to your place I love Mexican food and you seem to be way more organized then I am right now.

My DH and family (father's side) are Hawaiian and although the theme part in terms of decorations is always fun and easy, I've never felt like I could come up with a complete menu of food..unless you've got a place to put the pig in the ground to cook [:)].  I do think you can do the decorations and stuff in the island theme and still serve Mexican food..hey, it's the 4th of July right? [:D]

I will be going to your house!

Uh, but seriously.  We'll probably grill to celebrate our first 4th with our new house/yard/patio.  Then we usually go to see a big fireworks show but I think I will send DH and the kids.  I'll stay home to see how Jake does with fireworks.  (I'm not sure which option seems scarier - leaving him home alone, or taking him with us to the fireworks show)

That sounds like a good plan. Mexican food (I can do that) with a Hawaiian decorations. Do you think anyone would notice? I think not if I have the food ready, the deck ready, and the pool ready for them.

I do have a big back yard but I don`t want to start digging a hole in it for a pig.

i found out friday our office is closed on thurs & fri. unfortunately that means forced use of 2 vacation days. not that i am really complaining, but it is nice to pick and choose.

Nice that you're getting so much time off, but I think that if a company is going to close on days that aren't bona fide holidays, they should be willing to eat it instead of making people use vacation time.  What if you had something really special planned for a vacation that would use up all your vacation time?
