I work for Ford and I'd say that if mileage is a consideration look at the GM cars.

btw Ed.. I hope you know dear,  that I mean NO OFFENSE to you or your coworkers.. I am sure you all are quite competent![;)]

Really?  Because I think salesmen are idiots, based upon my experiences with our sales staff.[:)]

That said, Jim has owned 2 fords now and both have had problems and we will likely never own a ford again. His first ford was a Probe GT, and while he LOVED that car, it was always in the shop. 5 Years ago he traded in the probe for a focus ZX3 (figuring the car problems he had were specific to the probe…) but that car has been in the shop multiple times a year since we have owned it. SO, no more fords for us.

The probe GT was almost entirely Mazda.

The ZX3, he probably got in it's first year.

Lesson to be learned:  Never buy a car in it's first production year.  That is unless consumer reports tells you to, and it's toward the end of the production run.

Probably to around 100,000 miles.  Her current car has 114,000 miles on it.

Probably asking a stupid question here, but why would you want to keep a car for only 100,000 miles?  The little Echo I gave DS#1 when we got the Matrix has almost 300,000 miles on it and it hasn't needed anything except for routine maintenance, a little brake work and every now and then replacing a tire.

I think it was year 2.. cuz he got it right before the ZX5's came out and we always wished we had waited a few months and got one of those (easier to get the kids in and out of the car in the 5's).. and if I remember correctly the 5's came out in year 3... but I may have that wrong. [8|]

Either way, you make a good point Ed.[:)]

    WOW.. impressed!

[sm=biggrin.gif]I have to laugh though because I would have to own a car for 50 years to put 300,000 on it.. I only put an average of 5-6,000 miles a year on my car... 50 years is a hell of a long time to own a car lol!!!

the shopping is the fun part. it is the dealing with the salesman that sucks! [8D]

I actually enjoy playing their silly games.

edit: i cant wait until i get old like billy and can afford a fun, fast car! [:D]

LMAO.  And FY.  [:)]  However, my wife made a very similar comment last night.

At the time we were putting well over 600 miles a month on it by just making 4 round trips a week to the Sac airport.  Not driving so much now.  The Matrix is just coming up on 20,000 miles and I've had it almost a year.

Nothing screams mid life crisis like a guy your age in a shiny red mustang...You might consider finding a convertible..GO FOR IT!!!

I also noticed the cars were all V8 engines..I don't think that has anything to do with any short comings though..And besides, they don't make production cars with jet engines..

[sm=vomit03.gif] sorry folks.. the only one I would EVER be caught dead in is the black.. I HATE all the other colors... and I ONLY bought this car for the incredible space for tall, long legged doggies and ease of camping.  I wish the dogs would fit ok in the convertible though ... I would have preferred that....

;pretty much the PT cruisers in my area all driven by men wearing Hawaiian shirts and going through a mid life crisis... i have never seen another person like me driving any except the convertibles...  oh well.. I like to be different I guess!

My Mom's always makes me think of those old fashioned Milk Trucks for some reason! It looks better wrapped!

I just like that they're curvy. I hate angular cars aside from the chrome soaked 50's pointy fins. Gimme something curvy with a rumble seat...wheehooo....think that was the 40's....nice cars then!

yes.. I agree that the curves are nice on it.. I love that the roof is also a bit curved and super tall....  they are incredibly roomy (back seat leg room is INSANE!!!) and yet shorter in length total car even then DH's ZX3.  so does mom have the WHITE,  WHITE one or the creamy color I think they call "vanilla"
