I'm sorry tht you both feel so lousy.  I hope you make speedy recoveries.

I was sick last week. (though, it sounds like ya'll are much sicker than I was)  My best advice is sip on some gatorade & lie around feeling sorry for yourselves for a few days.  Self pity always makes me feel better![:D]  (Sadly, I am not joking on this one.)

I know the non-alternative types will say I'm crazy, but you CAN have a cold/flu that actually settles IN a muscle.  In it's very essence that's what rheumatic fever is and even most conjunctivitis (for opposite ends of the spectrum as examples).  If it were ME I'd be taking something like a good anti-viral like St. John's Wort with Echinacea and as TaoOfGoldyShep said above -- Arnica (the homeopathic AND the rub on both) is absolutely a wonderful help when you ache.

Using one of the essential oils like peppermint or wintergreen (or a blend like WoodLock or White Flower Oil) to massage into those sore areas can be superb.  If you can't reach to rub it in just the application of the oil itself will make it sink into the skin and it really brings some good relief.

I was so sorry to read your posts--- I hope you get better soon.

The de-fizzed coke idea is good, if the caffeine doesn't bother you. If you have REAL ginger ale and de-fizz it that can help, too.

RE muscle aches: the hot baths, etc are good---but also have DH pre-warm your bed so you don't get cold and tighten up those muscles after relaxing them.

I don't have an electric blanket, so here's an idea:

Take the towels you will use when you get out of the tub, your pjs or whatever and a couple of blankets and toss them in the dryer on med or high--- after a few minutes put one blanket on the bed and cover immediately with another blanket to keep the heat in. Keep the dryer running. At the end of the bath/shower have DH get the towels and clothes out of the dryer and bring them to you the second you get out of the tub so you stay warm. Dry off and get into the warm bed and have him take the last blanket out of the dryer and tuck you in putting a blanket on top.

Trust me when I say that a warm blanket over you when you have muscle aches/shakes is heaven.

If you want to take tylenol but can't keep it down, call the local pharmacy and see if they have an acetaminophin (sp?) suppository. Not a pleasant idea, but if you need pain/fever relief and can't keep stuff in your tummy it make help.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery.

Excellent idea polarexpress. I will have to look into that and keep some around the house (especially for when I have migraines that make me vomit for hours on end).   I use to be able to get something called "excedrin quicktabs". they were a combo of acetaminophin and caffeine and they dissolve in your mouth. they were perfect for migraines because you didn't have to worry if you were vomiting. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find them for more than a year.   Thanks also for the "heating the bed" ideas.[:)]

Callie- you are the queen of remedies.. thanks you for sharing some wonderful suggestions![:D]

[:o] They discontinued the quicktabs, so you won't find any. Sorry.

FYI: Tylenol makes "meltaway" tablets for kids that melt in your mouth--no caffeine, though. The children's meltaway for ages 2-6 is 80 mg of acetaminophen per tablet and the jr. meltaways are 160 mg each. They come in bubblegum and grape[:D]

    Hope you're feeling better!

[:)]Hi Candace!  I am still sick but not feeling anything like I was yesterday. I finally decided at last night when I was curled up in a ball and miserable from the aches and fever that I had to drug myself to try to go to sleep. I took 2 benedryl and slept for 3 hours, then got up and ate ½ a bagel and went back to bed for 8 more hours. I am back at work today but drugged up on motrin. Waiting to see how the day goes especially as the drugs wear off…but I am hoping to stick it out at work.

So are you feeling better since you got some rest?

Yes, I was checking in to see how you both were too.  Candace are you feeling much better??

Well BF went and got me some ibuprofin this morning since Tylenol didn't seem to be doing anything and I can't take it unless I can sleep.  The Ibuprofin is helping a bit.  At least I can swallow.  Half a bottle of Vitamin C later and my throat doesn't feel like its goint to explode... but that could be the pain meds.  Plus I've napped everytime Kali has and once when she was just playing in her intellitainer for a few minutes.  I keep thinking I feel better, so I get up, look at my dishes, sit down at the computer to check in, and crawl back to the couch.  Kale's home from school now, so he can keep Kali entertained for a bit if I need him to.  I hate this drugged feeling almost as much though.[:'(]

Candace once of the best things you can do for a sore throat is drink hot herbal tea with a lot of lemon and honey in it.  Give it a try and you might find that it helps a great deal!

Thanks. I think I will.  I wanted to make Coffee earlier just to get me to stay awake for longer than it took to change a diaper and feed Kali some babyfood.  But I just couldn't face the idea of drinking it.  I drink it black and like it strong but I don't think that would feel good.  I'll try the tea.
