Kelly- Thanks you for the medical advice.. I actually have a question I wanted to ask you that I almost used this morning. When I get migraines that have severe vomiting, after  few hours if it doesn#%92t subside on its own I try to get down a Dramamine and if I can keep it down it not only stops the nausea and vomiting, but also knocks my lights out for ½ a day so I can recover. DO you see any problem with using Dramamine for this?

Nah, go ahead and use it :) It doesn't interact with motrin or tylenol and if it helps with the nausea woo hoo!! Man, you really got a bad bug huh?

OH GOOD!  I am glad it is OK to use when I need it for migraines. the hardest part is timing it so I can get it to stay in my body long enough before I start the vomiting cycle again.[:)]

Out of curiosity how long does stuff need to stay down to be able to be used by your system??

I don't know what this thing is. Now that most the nausea is gone and the aches are a little better but it seems like a wierd time of year to be getting sick like this [8|]

    try some hot tea.

ginger ale or 7up helps when i have a stomach bug too.

A good rule of thumb is about an hour for most meds. If you can keep it down that long, it probably has been absorbed :)

I was going to suggest a hot pad or rice bag.

Also, I keep POWDERED Gatorade in the pantry at all times.  That way, I can mix it up at 3 a.m. (when the kids ALWAYS seem to need it!) and not have to run to the store in my pjs.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Shelly, I have nothing to add to what's already been offered rxcept maybe snuggling with Jimmy James & Pru.  That always helps me feel better when I'm feeling punky.  I hope you feel better, sweetie!!

Well, I'll tell you what my doc said this past winter when I lost three days from work because of norovirus.  He said that the most important thing was to keep hydrated if I could keep liquid down.  So, the ginger ale and Gatorade was what I did.  But, I didn't eat anything for 24 hours (I figured if the vet tells me to rest the furkids' guts, I should try it on myself LOL).  He also said that once I started eating again, not to do any dairy, but to stick to carbs, like Pasta with a little tiny bit of olive oil, & no sauce, because it's easy to digest.  So, that's what I did.  And, I got better - people I work with actually ended up in the ER from dehydration.

Anyway, I hope you feel better really soon - been there, and it really sucks.

Lorib- I really like the powdered Gatorade suggestion. I might have to get some just to keep around in times like this.[:)]

Annie- Jimmy James and my Pru-bear are being so super sweet. They always seem to know when one of us isn#%92t feeling well and they leave us alone. I don#%92t let them on my bed, but I laid with them for awhile in their beds in the family room. They were nice and shared their big comfy beds with me.  [;)]

The motrin stayed down and I got about 1 ½ hours sleep again but woke up now with a horrible sinus headache… so the aches have gone down quite a bit but the headache is now here…. Looks like I will be going for shower number 3 today to relieve some of this sinus pressure.[&o]

Anne- plain pasta sounds really good.. I am obviously not eating the fish tacos I had planned for dinner, but maybe some pasta would be good. I managed to keep down about 1/2 cup of rice but I need a little more food before I take more meds today or my stomach will be a wreck.  Thanks for the suggestion![:)]

instead of Gatorade, I personally would drink Pedialyte.

and I was going to suggest a hot water bottle, if you have one.  the hot water bottle is my bestest friend!

also, ginger-real, not ale-  or peppermint- a la altoids or peppermint tea- for nausea.

plain pasta or plain ramen noodles without the flavor packet are good, too.  and saltines.[:D]

feel better shelly!!! believe me, i feel your pain!!!

Oh I feel it too.  In fact I woke up the same way this morning without so much nausea and my throat feels like I smoked 3 packs of cigarettes in a room full of smokers last night.  (I didn't).  I definately have the aches and pains though.  Unfortunately I also have Kali and BF is at owork so I can't take anything.  (Pain meds KNOCK me out)  Cannot wait for bedtime.  One more hour...

    Hope you feel better soon.

Hope you feel better too, Candace.

Thanks Lori.  I just loaded myself on Vit C, as I had an apparent brain fade and forgot about the effects it has on sore throats.  I'm going to bed soon, but in my foggy state, I forgot to give Kale his supper so he's sitting at the table eating Pokemon-ghetti AFTER his bath...[&:]

Jeez, I am sorry you guys are so sick.......I hope you get better soon.......[;)]

Hey,,,hope both of you guys feel better!  Shelly, it does sound like you are doing a bit better anyway.

Gosh I hate the urps.... thats the worst.... I can handle aches and pains!!  Kind of!  Lol!

Years ago you used to be able to buy coke syrup..it was recommended for upset stomachs,,, therefore my old pediatrician always told me put coke in a glass...stir it until the fizz leaves and sip on it.  So that is what I do except I do put it over ice.   Sip a bit at a time.    ITs tough when you have upsets stomach and aches...because just about anything for the pain...could upset the stomach worse.  Gaterade is probably good...keeps your electrolytes in order....but I REALLY would have the "throw ups" if I drank Gaterade.....or pedialyte.  That stuff makes me sick when I am not sick!
I hope you guys feel better really soon...and I hope I don't get it!

[&o]Oh Candace.. I am so sorry that you are sick too.  I know.. isn't it time for bed yet? I can't believe how early it still is. Today has been the longest day. I can't go to sleep yet or I will be up half the night. I just took more motrin (about 2 hours earlier than I should have) because the aches and fever are back at full force. I seriously thought this afternoon I was getting better (the nausea is still gone thank GAWD).. but it looks like the motrin was just "masking” the pain and fever and hasn't run its course yet.    DH did buy me Gatorade and stuff to make avgolemano soup but I can't stand up long enough to make it and I don't think I can even eat a thing anyway.

I don't know what this crap is but I have never had body aches so bad that they make me want to crawl in a ball and just cry. [:(]  I feel so lame saying that.. I really am not a wuss, but these suckers are making me absolutely miserable.

Wishing you a very quick recovery Candance[:)]
