Backyard....UPDATED -- new pics p. 3

Ya'll can come and make my yard pretty too!

Man, looks like a lot of work.  When we moved in to this house (um...two weeks ago :o)) I knew I wanted to do so much yard work and stuff....but quickly learned the limitations of a six-month pregnant body.  I hate not being able to even unpack, and hubby keeps calling things I want him to help out with 'your projects'.  He doesn't seem to understand that this is our house and requires commitment and effort to make it ours.  Or even to unpack and get settled!  By the way, it sucks to get settled with a toddler who doesn't know what's going on and is being a little turd.

So, if you don't mind, I'm going to live through you and pretend it's me getting all of this work done.  :o)  Can't wait for the finished pics!

I'm looking forward to seeing the progression.  I was able to get one of my kids to come paint my fence this week (needed $)[:D].

Good for you guys. Now I can see better what you want to cover that ac unit. Perhaps a few shrubs well placed and kept trimmed would hide it away.

    Ron,
my mother has placed a small, potted hibiscus tree in front of it, and thinks we should get a few more... Im not sure if it covers it to my liking yet or not... It wouldn't hurt to pick up one or two more and try it out, and if I don't like it, they can have a home on my patio.

I'm so excited to see more pictures! My peonies and tall Iris (from my Mom) are blooming and yes, I've taken pictures.

I love this time of year. I'm a nut, I know, and on the "What's your hobby" thread I was totally a house hobbyist, so . . .

I can't wait to see updates,  Alieliza!

Ok, so after more hard work this weekend, things are finally coming towards an end... well, minus maintenance, letting things grow, repainting the porch, finishing the spray painting the patio chairs, possibly adding some pots of vegetables, etc.... lol

    Here are some new pictures!

    New fence pre-paint:

Me painting the fence: (I think it was DPU who asked where were the photos of me working?? -- I made sure BF caught it on camera!)

    Painted!:

Dad working: (My parents came BACK this weekend to help! They hadn't had enough! They are DEDICATED! I *love* them -- not just for helping!)

    Impatiens planted along the sides:

New flower bed (previously a raised bed with decaying/rotting retainers, filled with droopy plants, black landscaping plastic, and white stones.... [sm=vomit03.gif] -- let me add that I RENT, the previous ugliness had nothing to do with me!)

    Upclose:
Dahlia: (My favorite -- the flower bed is full of em!)

    Snapdragon (both tall and dwarf):

    Some kind of Daisy:

    Cosmos:

There are also Asiatic Lillies that have yet to come up, echinacea, and various others that I have mentioned before...

    Hibiscus:

    Peppers potted up! Yum!:

    Straw-covered grass seed:

Now for the hurry up and wait part!

    Thanks for looking!

i had meant to ask if you rent- that's a BIG commitment for a renter, and BRAVO to you for actually caring!  of course you know how blessed you are to have a patch of earth in the city, and i admire your follow-through.... LOOKS GREAT!
    • Gold Top Dog
I know it is quite the commitment for a renter... but Im just glad that she offered to cover the costs.. It is to her benefit, and I think she probably realizes the amount of labor that she got for FREE.

To me, though, the work and commitment is worth it to have a space that I am not embarrassed of, and that I will actually ENJOY.

Good job!  You will love it in a couple months!  Remember...water every day for the first couple of weeks for a good start.

The daisies, by the way, are Gerbera daisies, one of my favorites because here in GA they come up every year and come in such brilliant colors.
    • Gold Top Dog
But aren't Gerbera Daisy flowers much bigger in size? These are quite small.

    ETA:
Thanks for the watering tip. I just had the sprinkler on and then went outside to water what didn't get hit with the spray.

Also, another tip from my mom is to pinch back all the flowers so they don't go to seed and will keep blooming and growing.

Are you sure you are not posing.  When I use a roller, paint gets all over me.  Not a speckle on you.  And then you had to switch from a single handed rolling to a two handed rolling.

Seriously, everything looks great and I wish my yard looked so nice.  Now don't forget the very last thing you do is to plan the barbecue.
    • Gold Top Dog
    LOL...

I had to do the two-handed roll to make sure the primer got in all the cracks and knots! And, I was covered in (oil based) paint by the end... I had only just started!

I know I have to start planning the barbecue! As soon as the grass grows in and things look really great!
