Well, we worked on the backyard all last weekend...
There is still a lot of work to be done, and I have to take a few more shots tomorrow, but I will outline what we have done so far, and inclue many pictures...
I rent, but was really unhappy with my backyard (not unhappy with having one... its a gem in Brooklyn, but it was in terrible shape. Luckily, landlord says she'll pay for all the plants, fence, etc. Yay! My parents came down to help with the yard as a birthday present, and we're on our way to something beautiful!
Check back for updates.
This was the yard before:
The sides:
The "patio":
Ugh, the central A/C unit that cools the dentists office below (not my apt.)
The fence was in desperate need of repair, it hadn't been touched in 25 years!
We took down the (25 year old) fence, and some dead birch trees:
Here is a photo of my dad tilling and my mother shoveling out the raised bed that was there previously (retainers were rotting, it was filled with white stone and black landscaping plastic, sorry looking birch trees, and a day lily...:
Close up of mom:
Dad acting silly:
Some of our potting work:
Day Lillies that were dug up and replanted elsewhere:
The new fence going up:
Some of the other things we did that are not shown:
Planted imapatiens under the evergreen trees lining the fence, started a flower bed around the remaining birch tree with petunias, mini coreopsis, asiatic lillies, the "no fuss sunny garden" from better homes and gardens i posted about a few weeks ago, and a few irises.
We still need to paint the fence, sow the grass seed, plant morning glory and moonflower seed along the fence, sow some wildflower seed along the fence (shady mix), and take out some of the old debris, paint the iron table and chairs, paint the porch floor.... is that it??
Anyway,
