    Backyard....UPDATED -- new pics p. 3

Well, we worked on the backyard all last weekend...
There is still a lot of work to be done, and I have to take a few more shots tomorrow, but I will outline what we have done so far, and inclue many pictures...

I rent, but was really unhappy with my backyard (not unhappy with having one... its a gem in Brooklyn, but it was in terrible shape. Luckily, landlord says she'll pay for all the plants, fence, etc. Yay! My parents came down to help with the yard as a birthday present, and we're on our way to something beautiful!

    Check back for updates.

    This was the yard before:

    The sides:

    The "patio":

Ugh, the central A/C unit that cools the dentists office below (not my apt.)

The fence was in desperate need of repair, it hadn't been touched in 25 years!

We took down the (25 year old) fence, and some dead birch trees:

Here is a photo of my dad tilling and my mother shoveling out the raised bed that was there previously (retainers were rotting, it was filled with white stone and black landscaping plastic, sorry looking birch trees, and a day lily...:

    Close up of mom:

    Dad acting silly:

    Some of our potting work:

Day Lillies that were dug up and replanted elsewhere:

    The new fence going up:

Some of the other things we did that are not shown:
Planted imapatiens under the evergreen trees lining the fence, started a flower bed around the remaining birch tree with petunias, mini coreopsis, asiatic lillies, the "no fuss sunny garden" from better homes and gardens i posted about a few weeks ago, and a few irises.

We still need to paint the fence, sow the grass seed, plant morning glory and moonflower seed along the fence, sow some wildflower seed along the fence (shady mix), and take out some of the old debris, paint the iron table and chairs, paint the porch floor.... is that it??

    Anyway,
If you care to follow this renovation, keep your eye on this thread!

    Great job...
    Tyson will love it...
I think that white fence in the background could use a couple of brown spots painted on it  so it'll match Tyson...[;)]

Your parents are awesome for helping out...

Here you are! OMG--you've worked so hard! That yard looks like it's going to be so gorgeous when you get through! Good for you!

I can't imagine how tired and sore you all were. Those are the weekends when you have pizza delivered and you just eat with dirty hands, you know it? You're in the zone and getting tired but don't want to stop yet.

I can't believe what a cute little yard you have! That dirt looks pretty good, too, so I bet you'll have a zillion flowers soon. I can't wait to see this week's pictures.

And you're so good--you know the names of your flowers (I was talking like a kindergarten teacher and didn't need to)!

    I can't wait! [:)]

Wait a minute, where's the pictures of you working out there.  Oh, I forgot, supervising is working.

Looks great and I look forward to the finished work.  May I suggest backyard lightng.  You won't regret that.  That soil looks rich so you are going to have one good garden.

Oh DPU, I was behind the camera!
No, in all reality, I did work very hard right along with them. They are the experienced ones, but I took direction for yardwork like a good daughter, and I was instrumental in putting the fence up. I helped my dad with all the heavy labor!

Nfowler, I know some flowers... but not all! No worries!

And don't worry, there is no way I could forget to post finished pictures! Im going to be glowing when its all done! I couldn't forget to!

You are doing a fabulous job!  Yard work = hard work, but the end result is so worth it.  Can't wait to see what it looks like in a couple of months!

Wow, that's great! It's going to be a huge improvement. Your landlord is lucky you're willing to put in all that work. It will really increase the property value.
