    Need breakfast ideas

Throughout my life I have never been a regular breakfast eater… plus I don#%92t really like breakfast foods (I would rather eat pizza and cake for breakfast![:D]).  But eating breakfast regularly is far healthier for your body and can assist with weight loss and since getting the pups 11 months ago and walking far more, I have gone down 2 jean sizes and am within 1 size of my “goal”. YAY!!! I really want this trend to continue and feel that eating a regular breakfast is a good addition to the healthy lifestyle that is becoming routine.

Anyway, occasionally a pastry will call my name at my works coffee cart, but it was getting to be an “all too frequent event”, so instead if I was REALLY craving something I would get the bagel instead… but now those dry damn bagels (that absolutely require adding cream cheese) are becoming a 4 time a week “event”… I need to back off since that is putting about 500 calories in my body that I am not even really enjoying.[&o]

I can#%92t handle having either hot or cold cereal more than once a week so I am looking for alternate ideas. In the summer months I make lowfat fruit smoothies most days so that is something I am going to start doing again and the last few days I started making lowfat yogurt parfaits with strawberries, blueberries and a little bit of lowfat granola  (about 250 calories compared to my 500 calorie bagel…)

I need more variety though or I am gonna fail at this breakfast thing. SO does anyone have any ideas for:

A fairly healthy breakfast option that is quick and can be taken with me to work?[:)]

I was going to suggest chorizo and eggs based on your other thread lmao...but that doesn't travel well.

    Boiled egg?

Two packages of the quaker flavored oatmeal.  Bring a soup mug/bowl and use the hot water from the coffee cart.

Presto!  Instant breakfast that is good for you!  If you want to spice it up even more, bring some fresh fruit and slice it into the oatmeal.

In keeping with my Scots heritage, I mostly have oatmeal for breakfast every morning. This is what I do and it is also a great snack when you want something sweet but don't want to get FAT:

Two or three packages of instant apple & cinnamon oatmeal. I zap it in the microwave for 30 seconds and it comes out GREAT. NO extra sugar and NO milk or cream. Instead, I pour a huge glop of natural, unsweetened applesauce on top of it. It's really YUMMY.

I also mostly don't like breakfast for breakfast, and often make a stir-fry. Or eat the stir fry from the night before. Acutally, it's lo mein. But most people don't know what that is.

    Easy way to stir fry:

    white ground turkey
frozen veggies (green beans, oriental mix, whatever you want)
"oriental" flavor ramen noodles (I don't know how orientals taste....or how they get them in that little pouch.....)

Cook noodles in a sauce pan and drain. Do not add seasoning YET.

Meanwhile you've been cooking the turkey in the frying pan. Use a goodly amount of oil, you'll need it, so make sure it's healthy oil (canola, olive, etc.).

Add noodles and veggies to the pan, cook off most of the water. Sprinkle the little flavor packet over everything, and sprinkle in some soy or tamari sauce. Let the noodles cook and get browned a little in the oil.

When you get it in the bowl, add a few drops of sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.

I have this at least once a week for whatever meal.

    Other breakfast stuff:

Quesadillas. Flour tortilla in dry frying pan, with cheese and Herdez hot sauce inside. Sometime some cilantro too, if it hasn't gone bad. [:(]

LMAO!!!!!!!  Gina.. one of the ONLY breakfast foods I like is Huevos Rancheros... hmmm.. mexican food.. go figure! [8|]

Hard boiled egg is a good suggestion and might work once in awhile... but since I like them so much I might WANT to eat 10... do you think that would add too much to my calorie intake?[:)]

I eat flavored instant oatmeal too or yogurt.

Also, with the bagels, if you buy the smaller ones at the grocery store they have less calories than the full size ones (they are just a tad smaller) and if you must add something, have you ever tried Laughing Cow Cheese?  It is so good and very low calories and spreads well and comes in different flavors.  I can use one of those on my entire bagel and adds some more flavor.

You could also try buying or making some homemade flavored bread...like banana bread or strawberry bread and use a few sprays of the Parkay no calorie butter stuff.

Another thing I used to do is buy the mixes for flavored muffins that are low calorie and make those for myself.  I want to say it was the Krusteaz brand.  I always crave carbs in the mornings if you can't tell!

I too love Pizza for breakfast.  Everytime we order it I make sure there will be extra so I can eat it the next morning!  Nothing like cold pizza for breakfast.

ohhhhhhh... Jeano, do you think if I made it the night before and refridged it it could reheat Ok in the morning at my works microwave?

Does your office not have a toaster oven? They're great for reheating without nuking. Rolling some taquitos would also be good I think.

My all time favorite breakfast is my abuelita's....fried pappas, eggs, and refried beans...alllllll massshed togeeethher.
Oh man am I hungry now [&:]

What about a breakfast burrito? That's what DH and I typically have. Scrambled eggs with some black beans (canned) and salsa and a couple strips of (fake for us) bacon, with some shredded cheese in a tortilla.

We actually have a full oven (because it is in a physical rehab center) but it is pretty much reserved for patient use.. we USE to have a toaster we all could use, but one too many times an employee burnt toast and so they got rid of it...[&o]

That breakfast sounds YUMMY Gina.. Gosh.. is it lunch time yet?   [:D]

Cressida.. I like the breakfast burrito idea. Once in awhile I will go get some breakfast in our cafeteria and I ALWAYS get a breakfast burrito, BUT they are kinda expensive to do daily and they are FULL of fat... [&o]

But, maybe I can make my own like you are suggesting so I could make it healthier.. do you think if I made them the nights before I could reheat at work?

I LOVE my egg & muffin toaster! It is so nice to just load that thing up with my ingredients and go take the dog out or take a shower and not have to worry about it! Then I can throw it all together and make my sandwich. It also makes up to 4 hard boiled eggs. I use it for that quite a bit since I am notorious for putting eggs on to boil then forgetting about them. To keep it healthy you can use light muffins or bagels (sara lee makes some good ones), eggbeaters (the flavored ones are yummy!), and Canadian bacon is surprisingly low in fat & calories but adds a lot of protein. Thee kids love it, too. We use it several mornings a week.

How good with phylo dough are you?

If you're good you could make those spinach & feta stuffed pastries and freeze them.  They reheat pretty nicely.

You could also use them to make applesauce & cinammon pastries.  They also reheat nicely-though I prefer the oven to the micro in that regard.

Fruit salads are nice this time of year when it's getting hot as well.  Kiwi, banana and mandarin oranges mix nicely.

I'm a big fan of the grapefruit.  I refuse to eat the pre-peeled ones though.  Citrus usually combines very well with each other...grapefruit and blood oranges.

If you'd rather drink your breakfast you can combine those fruits and a carrot for a healthy sweet smoothie.

Almost forgot a quick and very satidsfying treat my sister created. Take a carb-smart tortilla (VERY high in fiber), spread with a smear of peanut butter and roll it around a banana. Very yummy!

Chips and salsa (dont tell me that because its crappy you wont consider that option like in the "cheap dinner ideas" thread when i posted almost the same) [;)]
