Whats for diner??

I season (salt & pepper) and then lightly brown the meat. Mix 1/3 c Worectershire sauce with about 2/3 c water. Pour over meat and reduce heat to around 200-250 degrees and cook one hour. You don't want the heat high enough to boil the pan dry. I serve with rice (or pasta) - the sauce makes a nice clear "gravy." I think I'll do fresh steamed broccli with it tonight.

That sounds great!!! I am gonna make it. I think you sold me on the noodles. I'm a sucker for noodles. LOL

angel, i make my stew for camping similar but also add in lots of onion, a little garlic, celery seed and bay leaf... if you have any bouquet garni that is amazing in stew too... but the worch. sauce is a must. also good with red wine added in too if you want a richer taste...

Thanks Shelly. I am terrible at trying new things. I'm one of those people who makes alot of pastas and lasagnia. Or BBQ in the summer.  My freezer is just not ready yet for BBQ season. I need to get shopping.

no problem i understand getting in a rutt with cooking... if you ever need sure fire easy dinner ideas that will impress the hubby... let me know. I can give you a bunch as cooking is a passion of mine :-)

i guess i will address the smarmy bastard right now despite the fact i think i am missing a post by reading this on my cell phone... is the "fat" comment really coming from someone who only needs to lose 10 less pounds than i do? perhaps you should lay off the mexican food all together billy... besides a man of your age really needs to watch what he eats or he wont have many years left....

as far as the "under the desk job" goes... wouldn't you have KNOWN if i was at that job today considering you were the one who offered it?

to stay on topic.... tonight i am either having the stuff i bought for beef stirfry OR if i chose to give in to DH, then am going back to the store to buy more basa fish for another evening of fish tacos.

never had basa fish till last night... anyone know any good recipes for it? it does make awesme fish tacos though...

Angel, before you start following Shelly's recipes with lots of garlic, onions and such, you MIGHT want to ask her when was the last time she got lucky.  [;)]

I've never heard of basa fish.  What is it like?  I know you'll agree with this, but some of the best fish I've ever had was when we were in Maui.  I'd never even heard of most of the fishes they had, and I grew up a mile from the ocean.

Oh Billy, I LOVE onions and garlic and I have no problems getting lucky.[;)]  DH doesn't mind at all.

I know..I don't know of many men who are opposed to it... perhaps Billy just prefers "bland" food [:)]

Let me know how the stew goes Angel and what you put in it.

DH is out of town, and I went to eat out with our accountant today, my stomach is talking to me......the home fries were not home friendly at all, so I doubt I will be eating anything but a Rolaid.......again[X(]

    Cathy,

It is a mild whitefish from Vietnam and tastes similar to Tilapia. My grocery store (Vons/ Safeway) just started carrying it a couple weeks ago and it will be stocked regularly.   The nice thing about it is that it is a tad firmer than tilapia so when I cooked it on the stove in a bit of olive oil for last nights fish tacos it actually held up a lot better and has is great texture combination with the corn tortilla and cabbage and crema mexicana sauce I made.  I think it might be good in a curry sauce too so I might try that one next. It would probably be good with any tilapia recipe actually. It would NOT do well on  the BBQ though... If you find it, try it. It was still frozen when I got it but thawed in no time and wasn't fishy or ruined at all by freezing...

Next time you go to Maui, if you haven't tried it, try Opah fish and also Butterfish... the butterfish seriously melts in your mouth like butter. [:)]

Shelly, I cooked the beef in onion and garlic and a little red wine. Then threw it in the crock pot. Added Potatos, carrots, corn, peas, beans, veggie soup, water, salt, pepper, and  a little warschester (sp). Then I cooked macaroni noodles. I put the noodles in a bowl then put the stew on top and I added Parm cheese to mine. It was wonderful. I actually finished the kids bites it was so yummy.

Oh I also did the garlic cheese bread too. I don't know why but I'm on a big cheese kick right now.

I shop at Safeway here too, so I'll look for it.  I like Tilapia, so I'm sure I'll love it.

I think Opah might've been the fish I had, or at least it had a name similar to that.  It was fabulous.  We're hoping to go back to Maui in October [:D], so I'll definitely try some of the different types of fish when we do.

I wish folks wouldn't feel badly because there are those of us who LOVE to cook.  I laugh at the folks at work because they are constantly making comments like "geeze!  what do you guys eat at home?  FILET????"  Truth be told, our lunch is the nite befores LEFTovers!

I thoroughly ENJOY cooking.  And because I've always worked, I've always cooked BIG.  So, if I make a pot of sauce, I make a BIG pot of sauce, always enough to freeze 4-5 extra meals.  Anything I actually cook during the week is done in bulk, and if I'm really lucky and REALLY organized, sometimes I get some time on Saturdays to cook too.  I have a very well stocked freezer so even nites that I don't feel like cooking I can generally put a fully home prepared meal on the table.  But, sometimes I do cheat and use stuff like the frozen turkey roast.....

Well, I had pizza delivered. Does that count? [:D]
