You are the first person I have heard say they enjoyed this movie. I have heard everything from it was just bad to it being absolutely terrible. I had a friend walk out. I haven't seen it. I like fairy tale type films though and I am still curious about it. I'll have to rent it.

Sylvia- rent it and just go in with low expectations.. Only my stepkids have liked it.. everyone else I know hated it but they also hated the Village.. and I LOVE That movie.. I feel bad for M.Night.. he should have created his other movies BEFORE 6th sense.. now everyones expectations are too high and they expect the moveis to be "scary"...

The 6th Sense was so huge. It was a really good movie and he set his bar way too high, I think. I didn't like Unbreakable, I very much enjoyed Signs, I thought The Village was alright and as I stated earlier I haven't seen Lady in the Water. I think he's ultimately a wonderful story teller though. I think he needs to stop trying to trump The 6th Sense with something better and then he finally will come out with something better than it. That's a hard movie to beat. [;)

I'll try and rent Lady in the Water this weekend.

all i can say is.. whoa... that was different. I got to see Pan's Labyrinth. It was a spontaneous decision. i was going to wait till the weekend to go see it, but tonight was aparently the last night for it to be shown....i didnt find this out until about 5:00pm, and the showing was at 7:00pm and you just dont rush out of the house to see a movie when you have two babies, three dogs, a cat, a bunny, plus three baby ducks (my mom's idea because her house has been too cold for them..) So i talked my cousin into coming to see it with me. i told her no kids, she said no problemo! we got there ten minutes after seven, but no worries because it hadnt started yet..... there were only three people seeing it, my cousin, me and some other lady.. she was funny.. the poor girl.
I got up a couple times (during certain scenes, i'm such a wimp.) and this woman was actually covering her eyes one time, and another time looked like she had her fists in her mouth. thats ok, so did i, and my cousin LAUGHED at me!!! that's also why i got up to get refills twice....

it didnt focus on the ethereal stuff as much as i had hoped it would, and it was very sad in some spots, but the art is fantastic. and i loved the concept as well. So i'm glad i went to see it. That boogie man with the eyeballs in his hands is going to haunt me forever though..... Its been a LOOONG time since i was actually held that much in suspence. [sm=biggrin.gif]

as for M Knight.... i dunno, i think he's an amazing story teller. each story has its own essence and its own appeal, and none of them are TOO similar except for the whole wicked twists in the plots. My only problem with the Village was the blind girl looked too much like my husband's exwife. he and i both were having a hard time watching that film.... this woman has caused us no end of grief and missery and to see her clone on the big screen was torture.... if it werent for that minor detail i think i would have liked the Village.
I never got to see Unbreakable all the way through, what i did see was interesting, but.... they set it up for a sequal.. so where is it?
Its a shame Jim Henson is no longer with us. he did an amazing job with Labyrinth and Dark Crystal.... but i'm not aware of anything else like those films. most people think muppets when you mention Henson... he did more than just that!

Aren't you glad you saw it?  I'm happy that you had a chance to go out and see it on such a short notice.  I'm a fan of gore and dark imagery, but even I winced at a few of the scenes in the movie.  I thought it was very dark and violent, but it never seemed to be violent just for the sake of being violent.

The Pale man scared the bejabbers out of me and my fiancee, too. We were, literally, crawling up out of our seats. One of the finest scenes in the history of cinema, I think.

I loved this movie!  I'm really okay with gore and blood, but I had to close my eyes during certain parts of that movie...  But it was really really good.

I haven't watched it yet... I'm a little afraid to. It's been a rough year for me - I'm not really up for dark movies right now. I've also been studying too much and having dreams about the Spanish "civil war" - don't want to make those worse than they are already!

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm not really a gore fan, but I watched it with a friend who'd seen it once before and told me when I might want to avert my eyes. [;)]
Heh... the guy with the eyes... he was awesome.

Oh my gosh, DH and I absolutley loved this movie. It was truly a beautiful movie. Definitely a dark fairy tale, but we just raved about it!

    Glad you enjoyed it!!  [:)]

Oh my Lord! He was enough to give me nightmares!!

this morning while i was drifting in and out sleep, after my husband had left for work, thats when i was really bugged lol
one of my kids' room is waaaaay at the other end of the house..... and that pale man kept popping into my mind. i almost got up twice to go get my kid and put him in bed with me and the baby.... instead i thought "get a grip you big stupid coward! its a MOVIE!!" ...so i opted for turning the baby monitor up as loud as i could... then consoled myself with the fact that if there was a boogie man like that, he moves so danged slow that i would have plenty of time to ..er... fix him for good.

Yep i think this will be the very last horror/gore/dark film i'm ever gonna see. Just like Cita said, its not only been a rough year, but its been a rough four years for me... i think i'm ready to stick with annoying cartoons and singalongs.. anything my kid wants to see as long as it is animated and/or rated G.....

I'm getting into this conversation a little late.

I LOVED Pan's Labrynth and I'll be buying it the day it comes out.  It's probably one of the best movie I've seen in a long time.  My favorite movies are the ones that are messed up i.e. blood, guts, gore & dark.  I think the darker the better.

As for Jim Hansen movies, he did an amazing job.  I don't know how many people are aware of this, but they are making a sequel to Dark Crystal.  It's called Power of the Dark Crystal.  It sounds like they might be doing it right.  They are using animatronic puppets and also Brian Froud (he did the original).  It also sounds like some of the Hansen kids are involved in making the movie also.  Also, Genndy Tartakovsky is directing (Dexter's Lab & Samurai Jack).  I can't wait!  The bad part is that it's not scheduled to come out until 2008.
