I understand what you are saying here... and I just want to make sure my meaning about men's involvement in female competition is clear... I do NOT believe that there have to be ANY males in the workplace to still have plenty of female competition (take for example my hospital when in many departments there are NO men...). Females still compete with females and try to look good for and impress other females and still try to make eachother jealous.. but I still think that there is at some 
subconscious level a feeling of competing for men that is evolutionary in nature, whether the competition for men is real or not… just my opinion though.
