    Favorite Band or Song?

Just curious. I posted this a while ago, but songs and bands change...so.

Just post the band and the lyrics.

    Fave bands:

    Fall out boy
    nirvana
    hawthorne heights
    jacks mannequin
    hinder
    panic! at the disco
    rancid

favorite song: thnks fr th mmrs (thanks for the memories) by fall out boy

I'm gonna make you bend and break.
Say a prayer, but let the good times roll,
    In case god doesn't show.

    Let the good times roll.
    Let the good times roll.

And I want these words to make things right,
But it's the wrongs that make the words come to life.
"Who does he think he is?"
If that's the worst you got,
Better put your fingers back to the keys.

One night and one more time.
    Thanks for the memories,
Even though they weren't so great.
"He tastes like you only sweeter."

One night, yeah, and one more time.
    Thanks for the memories.
    Thanks for the memories.
"See, he tastes like you only sweeter."

    Ohhhhhh.

Been looking forward to the future,
But my eyesight is going bad.
    And this crystal ball,
    Is always cloudy,
Except for when you look into the past.
    One night stand.
    One night stand off.

One night and one more time.
    Thanks for the memories,
Even though they weren't so great.
"He tastes like you only sweeter."

One night, yeah, and one more time.
    Thanks for the memories.
    Thanks for the memories.
"See, he tastes like you only sweeter."

    Ohhhhhh.

They say I only think in the form of crunching numbers.
    In hotel rooms,
    Collecting page six lovers.
Get me out of my mind.
Get you out of those clothes.

    I'm a liner away,
From getting you into the mood.
    Woooah.

One night and one more time.
    Thanks for the memories,
Even though they weren't so great.
"He tastes like you only sweeter."

One night, yeah, and one more time.

Not the ""best"", but the tune is oddly appealing.

I also like "circle circle dot dot" but it's kind of inappropriate, and it's one of my few *dirty* songs. Let your mind wander

I've got a TON of favorites. Here's my list, not in most favorite order, just ones I've listened to most recently:

Harry Nilsson (he's definitely one of my most faves right now)

David Bowie (lots of Bowie love, the man can do ANYTHING)

Sufjan Stevens (this man can do orchestral folk! Who has EVER heard of such a thing? He's fabulous!)

The Decemberists (Sea Shanties, anyone? GREAT BAND)

The Beatles (uh...as if I need to spell out the reasoning...[:D] )

Van Morrison (gosh! What a guy!)

Talking Heads (I just LOVE LOVE LOVE David Byrne)

Elizabeth Cotten (Uh, she invented the term "Cotten-pickin'" for her upside down guitar playing style. The woman is a legend)

Elvis Costello (another man that can do anything)

Pink Floyd (Oh man. The key is to be able to LOVE Pink Floyd completely sober. I know few who can admit to that)

TRex (Marc Bolan...MAN! Love this band. Marc Bolan was great. He died too soon. Anyone who can name their son "Rolan Bolan Feld" is great. That name cracks me up.

Joanna Newsom (She plays a great mixture of folk and experimental on the HARP! Genius!)

Van Dyke Parks (the name behind some GREAT musicians. And his own music is fabulous in its own right)

Brian Wilson (the genius behind The Beach Boys. "Smile" is probably my most favorite album, ever.)

Half-Handed Cloud (wow. "We haven't Just Been Told, We Have Been Loved" is like Brian Wilson, Harry Nilsson, Beck and Ween all went to Sunday school one morning and ALL left baptized. Good stuff.)

Actually, my last three should be more up towards the top. Probably under Sufjan.

Pink floyd- The Wall is an amazing triumph.  I can and have listened to it for hours and days on end.  But Animals is my favorite Floyd album.  I can listen to them uninterrupted for weeks, almost everything they put out was golden.  (And I've been substance free for a number of years!)

Andrea Bocelli- While I admit I was a bit shaky about listening to his stuff at first, I find his adaptations to be very inspiring and soothing.

Tchaikovsky:  He was the "Heavy Metal" of the classical era.  I can almost picture the protests outside of his concerts-people with signs that read "Tchaikovsky worships the devil" because of how heavy his songs were.

HIM and Sisters of Mercy:   For some reason the sad and depressing songs of these two groups are strangely comfortable to listen to.

The Cure:  Anything that was recorded by them was awesome, as long as Robert Smith wasn't happy.

NIN:  Trent is talented, and angry.  Great combo.

    Van Halen: Eddie-enough said.

Ozzy: Great songwriter who always surrounded himself with incredibly talented musicians.

Gravity Kills, Stabbing Westward, Philter, Rammstein, Ministry and all other industrial groups-not something I listen to all the time but I love the energy.

Calexico, Cake, Frank Black, the Pixies:  Just a different approach to rock and a way to keep things interesting.

Molotov:  I can't help it, these guys have fun and sing in spanish. (they are basically a spanish version of Rage...)

Songwriters:  Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Brian Adams, Don Henley, Neil Young, the guy from Weezer, Joan Baez, Sarah Mclaughlin, and a million more that are really good too.

I hope I didn't go too far off topic...I could go on forever with music that I like to listen to.

    I have several favorites.

Growing up, it was a battle between Kansas and the Who. In 1982, I went to see the Who in their first final tour. They would have a few more final tours and now they've given up on retiring and just get together when they feel like it.

    A few favorites are:

    Baba O'Reilly
    Behind Blue Eyes
Can You See the Real Me

    Baba O'Reilly:

    "Out here in the fields,
    I fight for my meals,
I get my back into my livin'.

    I don't need to fight
    To prove I'm right.
I don't need to be forgiven..."

    Thin Lizzy's The Cowboy Song.

    "I am just a cowboy,
    Lonesome on the trail.
The starry night, the campfire light.

    Coyote calls,
    The howling winds wail.

So, I guess I'll ride out to the ole' Sundown."

    AC/DC - Highway to Hell

    "Living easy, loving free.
Season ticket on a one-way ride.
Ask for nothing, leave me be.
I'll take everything in my stride.

    Don't need reason.
    Don't need rhyme.
There's nothing that I'd rather do.
    Going down, party time.
My friends are going to be there, too...

I'm on the highway to Hell..."

    Long Way to the Top.

"If you think it's easy doing one-night stands,
Try playing in a rockin' band.
It's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll."

    Deep Purple - Highway Star.

Uriah Heep - Stealin', Sweet Loraine.

    Anything featuring Ronnie James Dio.

Just about anything by Queen, though some favorites are "Who Wants to Live Forever" and "Hammer to Fall," both from "The Highlander" soundtrack. "Hammer to Fall" is the theme during the segment where a Viet Nam combat vet happens upon two immortals dueling. Anyway, here's a link to a Queen at Live Aid.

omg, Ed. Speaking of The Pixies, I sing "La La Love You" to Ella ALL the time.

D'oh. That's embarrassing to admit. I used to sing it to my youngest son when he was a tiny baby.

The albums from the 70's by JUDAS PRIEST are still at the top of my list for songs I listen to .

The band was tight, and the lead singer Rob Halford had an INCREDIBLE range. He could sing anything.

The lyrics were fantastic.I have always been a Jack the Ripper (fan?)And this song is great to charge me up.

    THE RIPPER
    You're in for surprise
    You're in for a shock
    In London town streets
    When there's darkness and fog
    When you least expect me
    And you turn your back
    I'll attack

    I smile when I'm sneaking
    Through shadows by the wall
    I laugh when I'm creeping
But you won't hear me at all

    All hear my warning
    Never turn your back
    On the ripper

    You'll soon shake with fear
    Never knowing if I'm near
    I'm sly and I'm shameless
    Nocturnal and nameless
    Except for "The Ripper"
Or if you like "Jack The Knife"

    [SOLO (Glenn)]

    Any back alley street
    Is where we'll probably meet
    Underneath a gas lamp
Where the air's cold and damp
    I'm a nasty surprise
    I'm a devil in disguise
    I'm a footstep at night
I'm a scream of the fright

    All hear my warning
    Never turn your back
    On the ripper...

And another from them on the opposite side of the spectrum..Great song, but i love them all

    EPITAPH

The old man's sitting there, his head bowed down
Every now and then he'll take a look around
And his eyes reflect the memory-pain of years gone by
He can't regain nostalgic dreams he'll never see again

With trembling hands, he wipes a tear
Many fall like rain, there's one for every year
And his life laid out so clearly now, life that's brought death
So nearly now life once he clung to dearly lets go

But spare a thought as you pass him by
Take a closer look and you'll say
He's our tomorrow, just as much as we are his yesterday

A lonely grave, and soon forgot
Only wind and leaves lament his mournful song
Yet they shout his epitaph out clear
    For anyone who's passing near
It names the person lying here as you
    And you...and you...and you...

Ack, did I forget the Priest???  70's and 80's and the latest incarnation of the band were the best, IMO.  Even though they did cover Joan Baez (Diamonds and Rust) and Fleetwood Mac (Green Manalishi) they were still a very original band.  And Halford still has one of the best sets of windpipes in the industry.

ETA:  Victim of Changes is one of my many favorites from that era.

One of the best things to happen in recent years was Rob Halford re-joining Judas Priest and re-ascending to the throne of the Metal God.

I really didn't like much of the stuff coming out from Priest after 1982's Screaming For Vengence.Thier bluesy typ stuff from the 70's and early 80's was great.Where once I could honestly say I loved every song on every album, after screaming,I couldn't say that any more..

Some of the latest stuff with Halford is actually pretty good..

This is always such a hard topic for me whenever it comes up on idog… My music tastes really run the gamut. Most the time it is FAR easier to say what I don#%92t like rather than what I like.

      I do NOT like:

NEW country – but I love the really old classic stuff

    Rap and Hip Hop

    Some metal

    A lot of “pop” music.

90% of music from the 80#%92s…

I mostly listen to 70#%92s and newer alternative rock.

My music listening fluctuates so I go through a few weeks were I listen to mainly 70#%92s stuff, then a few weeks with more alternative, sometimes followed by classical it all just depends.

The last month it has mainly been one of 4 or 5 artists and I can#%92t really say though what my favorite song is currently. I usually don#%92t care for a whole lot of female artists but right now I actually have 3 or 4 that I truly love. AT present on my MP3 player are the following artists…

      Regina Spektor

    Katie Melua

Jennie Lewis & the Watson Twins

    Crosby, Still, Nash and Young

    Neil Young solo

    IZ- Israel Kamakawiwo'ole ( a Hawaiian artist)

    Muse

    The Killers

    Bob Dylan

    "I went Sky-divin'.
    I went rocky mountain climbin'.
I went two point seven seconds
On a bull named Fu Manchu..."

Dave Matthews Band all the way baby!  I also really like Coldplay. Pink Floyd. Radiohead. Blue October. Good time oldies. Anything that makes me want to dance....These would probably be my favorites but I love music in general. ----

When I was in high school and college I worked at a music store for about 5 years.  As much as the pay sucked and there was no challenge which I always need, and dealing with the public of which there were a lot of derelicts, homeless people, crazy people and rude jerks, it was one of the greatest jobs!  There were actually a lot of really neat people that came in as well.  I loved listening to music and learning about the different types all the time so I actually have a pretty wide range of stuff I love but WAY too much to list.
