What are you afraid of?

    What are you afraid of?

Let's out our fears here! Some of us have shared before...and let's take for granted that we ALL fear, losing those close to us, our dogs, or other family members....
This thread is NOT to post pictures or otherwise scare people either. Just a fun safe thread for all that want to share....

    Mine,

1.SHARKS (mainly GW's): I hate them but have come a loooong way and can now watch footage of Great Whites without screaming or having to leave the room as long as I can look away a bit. I couldn't even touch pictures of them, esp if they had their mouths open, several years ago.

2.THE DARK: I'm better about this...but I still do not like fumbling around late at night in a dark room!

3.THE STAGE/STAGEFRIGHT: this is why I use a handler. Being in a ring where someone is staring at me, and I have to remember to do certain things or mess it all up (yeah I know the dog is the focus...fears don't always make sense!)...totally makes me physically ill!

    Those are my "biggies"...anyone else?

Moths.  They make me a blathering, fetal-position mess.  Talk about irrational.  [8|]

    Good idea!!

My biggest fear is one I'm so embarrassed to admit....ALIENS! Yes, extraterrestrials. Nope, never seen one in my life, but the very thought of them terrifies me. I can't watch those stupid UFO sighting shows or movies without being terrified for days!! I couldn't even look out our kitchen window at night after having watched Signs. Sheesh...I don't know what my deal is with aliens, but they scare the crud outta me!!

I'm also afraid of the dark when I'm alone, as well as flying in airplanes...just seems too unnatural to me, and every little noise that plane makes has me thinking the darned thing is coming down!! [:D]

Spiders (especially big ones), in particular, bugs in general.  If I see a spider in the house, I make my wife kill it.

Moths and ear wigs.  "shiver" ...  Not actually scared of the dark, but not crazy about it either.  I keep those little night lights plugged in here and there, and it works great until we have a power outage and I literally can't find my way around my own house. [:D]

    1.  Drowning - I have a fear of someone holding me under water
    2.  Being confined in a really small space for a long period of time with no escape, like a coffin
    3.  Falling - I am not afraid of heights, but I am afraid of falling whether it be an elevator dropping, falling down stairs, etc.  We went up in the elevator at the Paris hotel's Eiffel Tower in Vegas and I cried the entire time...once we got up there I was fine.

I really don't have any fears that make me scream or act irrationally.  But I don't like spiders roaches, or heights.

pretty much any bug will creep me out...
I am terrified of heights and snakes.

I love the night time... listening to the night sounds

It's ok Billy.  I think you can overcome this fear yourself.  Take a deep breath, let half of it out and gently squeeze, don't pull, the trigger.  [;)]

My biggest fear?  Being buried alive.

I don't have any that make me really upset, but I get the heebie jeebies from those big hairy spiders with the eyes that follow you around, or the ones that jump. I startle easily, so I tend to feel uncomfortable around balloons, those pop-open biscuit cans, cap guns, anything that's likely to make a loud pop at any moment. I'm not afraid of those things, but I always seem to go slightly "on-alert" when I'm opening biscuits or the kids have balloons around!

LOL.  Thank you, Ed.  Now, what was it I heard about you the other day?  [8|]

I actually like those hairy jumping spiders! Those are wolf spiders. Back when I lived in New Mexico I often had a little spider friend that would sit on the windowsill, or on my computer, or even on my shoulder while I worked.

The spiders that scare me are the long, pointy black-widowy looking ones. But I'm not terrified. I just squish 'em.

My biggest fear is that something will happen to my son.

My next biggest fear is that something will happen to Sofia or to Athena.

After that.....I guess it's bears. A reasonable fear, considering. It's okay to be afraid of bears!

I'm afraid of rats.  I never was - until I had one stand on it's hind legs and *hiss* at me in broad daylight because I had the nerve to walk down it's block.  AND I had my dog with me (city rats are positively fearless).  We both hauled ass. [:D]

The rat thing paved the way for fear of mice...  I actually moved out of an apartment because I had a mouse living there with me.  I lost my mind.  I had two full months left on my lease,  so I continued to pay the rent (even though I'd left) so the mouse lived there on his own.

Other than that, I don't have any real phobias - BUT (disclosure coming!)  I am fully capable of creating extreme fear of pretty much *any* thing at *any* time.   i.e. I could watch Jaws tonight, and be obessively terrified of Sharks (like afraid to shower) for at least a few days.  Apparently, I'm very impressionable. lol  This is why I avoid all things horror and I meditate every day to keep the insane asylum that is my mind - clear.

I sympathize whole-heartedly.  I used to have no fear (living in FL) of the ocean and swam all the time in it until I was in HS and at the beach. I had seen JAWS recently and was teasing me sis about the shark in the water that was gonna get her!  Well - a wave knocked me down and my hand landed on something living & wriggling (probably a salt water catfish) but it cut me!  After that I just cannot go past my waist and am constantly looking out for things and having to leave the water cause the shadows creep me out!

My other fear is public speaking - not just in groups but having to speak to strangers for things like returning items to a store - it takes me about a week to work up the nerve to do that and if the item is under $10 I usually don't bother (or send my DH to do it!)

    1. Failure/not being the best at something. Has driven me my whole life, but is quite unhealthy :(
    2. Bad men killing me, I think I watched too much america's most wanted as a child.
    3. Big dogs (chows/akita) to be specific, my piano teacher had dogs of those types that tried to eat me (at least in my child mind)
    4. Being alone, I think 1. makes it hard to be with me sometimes :( Good think my patients need me!!!
