I said I didn't care about a ring...

    I said I didn't care about a ring...

... little did I know how much I would love one!

When we got engaged my SO couldn't afford an engagement ring and I didn't care about it so no big deal. But when he told his aunt, she insisted he give me this ring that belonged to his late grandmother. SO was very close with his grandma and so besides being beautiful it has a lot of sentimental value... I am so touched his aunt wanted me to have it! [:)][:)][:)]

That's beautiful!  And so touching that she wanted you to have it...something like that is sort of an "official seal of approval" lol.

Enjoy wearing it!  I wasn't overly fussed about having one, but now I feel naked without it.

    Wow, very nice.......[;)]
Now, you would never be able to back out....the pressure is on[:D]
It looks to be white gold? I love white gold, and only wear that or silver....DH has been trained to buy only white gold.....

It says on the band that it's platinum [sm=eek.gif]... I am nervous about wearing something so irreplaceable but I will wear it bc I love it... I am so glad we waited for this ring to come along. I'm not a big believer in fate but this ring is really special. I met grandma before she died and what I always remembered most from that visit was the story she told about how she loved her husband so much all her life she would go to the window every morning and watch him leave for work, missing him already. How romantic is that? [:)]

Holy smokes.....platinum....., the ring is absolutely beautiful, and hopfully good karma comes with the ring.

A friend of mine got a super expensive engagement ring, the way she keeps track of it is, she puts it on a chain around her neck while cleaning or doing other things....she hasn't lost it, damaged it or anything.

That is soooo special jones! Shortly after we were married I lost all my rings - my diamond, my wedding band, a blue saphire my DH had bought me, my mothers high school ring. For years I went with no rings at all. DH eventually replaced my engagement ring with a beautiful ruby and diamond ring. But it was never the same. I didn't symbolize our 'union' to me. When my mother passed away, I inherited her mothers engagement ring. It had this tiny little diamond in the centre and 2 even smaller stones set in hearts on either side. I immediately moved my ruby to my right hand and wore my grandmothers ring on the left. That ring has such meaning to me. It is all about love and family. I would never trade it or remove it from that finger, not matter what!
You are a very lucky girl! Marriage is as much about our pasts is it is about our futures.

Oh that is gorgeous and very touching. I too believe in fate and that's an amazing result of it. Wear it in good health and happiness/

Wowwwww! That's super special and egads! Platinum and all those diamonds!!

    Very, VERY nice.

Word to the wise: if you have the settings checked NEVER leave it alone with a jeweler, they might switch stones on you. It's a good idea to have it checked once a year, and there is no reason for them to go "in the back" with it while they do that. I worked in jewelry for years.

Yikes, I might have to crack somebody's skull open for that[8D]

    Just beautiful!  And incredibly special!

I didn't want one and we could never have afforded one - somehow my Mom thought it was her "fault" - she had stopped wearing hers many, many years earlier because she lost it too frequently.  Kept it in a safe deposit box and I always teased her, so she gave it to DH to give to me.  Took me quite by surprise.

But I'm so crazy paranoid about what Jeano described, that I haven't had it professionally handled or evaluated since I got it.  Mpls is not where I grew up and I feel like I'd never know who to trust!!!

Beautiful ring! Congratulations! How nice to have a ring that carries so much sentimentality.  Just think, you could be passing that ring down for generations to come. [:)]

Very nice.  Conrats. I often wonder what to do with my rings when I'm gone.  Having three sons and all.  Maybe the first Granddaughter.

Beautiful.  I love sentimental things.  And it sounds like the ring gave some very good luck the first time around.  May it do so again for you.

My ex once tried to give me his mothers rings from her first marriage after she was already on her third.  Ummm No...

    WOW!!!  That is gorgeous!

I have a lot of family rings coming to me someday, one being my great-grandmothers which I LOVE but it is in an antique setting that isn't sturdy enough to wear.  We have a friend who is a jeweler and I think he told my parents not to take it out of the setting.  I will also someday get my mothers ring which is also just as equally beautiful.  I am in no hurry to get that one though as I want her to stay around and wear it herself for as long as possible.

That really is quite an honor to be handed down a ring from your SO's  grandmother who he was so close with.  Even though his aunt gave it to him to give to you, it still says something about how they feel about your relationship.  Congrats!

ETA: Oh yeah, so how did he give it to you?  Did he do anything special?

I used to be the same way about a ring but when DH told me he wanted me to pick a ring out, I quickly fell in love with diamonds.  I remember when I actually got engaged and got to start wearing it I would gave into it for months and admire how shiny my diamond was.  Silly, I know, but it was really exciting and what it stood for was even more exciting than the ring itself.

WOW, now THAT'S a ring!!!  How sweet that his aunt wanted you to have his grandma's ring.  I believe that signals that you're a keeper [;)]
