What's Your Song?

    What's Your Song?

Do you and your SO have a song? I always get asked this and feel so stupid because we really never have up until now. We have very different tastes in music too, so that didn't help. Recently though, I heard a song on the radio and immediately thought of him, and it turns out that he had thought of me when he heard it on his home a few days earlier. So after nearly 7 years together we actually have a "song."

I Will Follow You Into the Dark- Death Cab For Cutie

Love of mine some day you will die
    But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark

No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark

    If heaven and hell decide
    That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
    When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles brusied by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
"Son fear is the heart of love"
    So I never went back

    If heaven and hell decide
    That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
    When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

You and me have seen everything to see
    From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes
    are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
    It's nothing to cry about
Cause we'll hold each other soon
    In the blackest of rooms

    If heaven and hell decide
    That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
    When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
Then I'll follow you into the dark

The closest we have to a song is one that well...makes me blush everytime I hear it because of what was going on the first time we umm listened to it...lmao. It's a very special song to us, needless to say.

    "It's No Good"-Depeche Mode

I'm going to take my time
I have all the time in the world
    To make you mine
It is written in the stars above
    The gods decree
You'll be right here by my side
    Right next to me
You can run, but you cannot hide

    Don't say you want me
    Don't say you need me
    Don't say you love me
    It's understood
    Don't say you're happy
    Out there without me
    I know you can't be
    'cause it's no good

    I'll be fine
    I'll be waiting patiently
    Till you see the signs
And come running to my open arms
    When will you realise
Do we have to wait till our worlds collide
    Open up your eyes
You can't turn back the tide

    Don't say you want me
    Don't say you need me
    Don't say you love me
    It's understood
    Don't say you're happy
    Out there without me
    I know you can't be
    'cause it's no good

I'm going to take my time
I have all the time in the world
    To make you mine
It is written in the stars above

    Don't say you want me
    Don't say you need me
    Don't say you love me
    It's understood
    Don't say you're happy
    Out there without me
    I know you can't be
    'cause it's no good

Ours is The Girl from Ipanema (the original Stan Getz/Astrid Gilberto version, thank you very much!). Only because when we were courting, everywhere we'd go it would be playing, and we both love that song and it just seemed like kismet. DH is a musician and quite the jazz aficianado. Even today that song seems to follow us around.

We had a jazz trio play at our wedding reception and DH was in charge of the music and he changed our wedding dance from The Girl from Ipanema to Corcovado (another Getz/Gilberto composition), which was also great.

We are trying to think of one to dance to on our wedding day.  I think right now it is between Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton or Secret Garden by Bruce Springsteen.

David and I have only been married 10 years but we both love Oldies (among other types of music).  But the 'funny' Our Song is "Wild Thing" by the Trogs ("Wild Thing .... you make my HEART sing" -- because a few years ago when the toys with musical chips got cheap and popular he must have gotten me 3 various sizes of gorillas that 'sing' Wild Thing (different Valentines Days LOL) but I will never forget the sight of my husband trucking up the aisle in the Grocery Store carrying this ENORMOUS white gorilla for me with a red velvet rose in itsh hand LOL.

But  'for real' Our Song is "Love Me Tender" by Elvis.  David recited Burns' "My Luve's Like a Red Red Rose" to me as part of our wedding ceremony (remember, he's a Scot), and I sang Love Me Tender to him accinpanied by my autoharp - we got married outside and that was IT as far as music went aside from the Carrillon at Bok Tower.

Eighteen years ago when we got married, we danced to "ill be loving you" some little boy group, can't remember the name, but, our song quickly became, '"Iv'e had the time of my life", we made out and stuff[sm=blush.gif] in the back of the limo on our way to the reception and this wa playing in the limo[:)]

We danced to Amazed on out wedding day.  So, I guess that would be our song..?

Officially our song is The Dance by Garth Brooks. But any of Tim McGraw's songs have alot of meaning for us also--especially My Best Friend.

At our wedding we danced to When I Said I Do by Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black:
These times are troubled and these times are good
And they're always gonna be, they rise and they fall
We take 'em all the way that we should
Together you and me forsaking them all
Deep in the night and by the light of day
It always looks the same, true love always does
And here by your side, or a million miles away
Nothin's ever gonna change the way that I feel,
The way it is, is the way that it was

When I said I do, I meant that I will 'til the end of all time
Be faithful and true, devoted to you
That's what I had in mind when I said I do

Well this old world keeps changin', and the world stays the same
For all who came before, and it goes hand and hand
Only you and I can undo all that we became
That makes us so much more, than a woman and a man
And after everything that comes and goes around
Has only passed us by, here alone in our dreams
I know there's a lonely heart in every lost and found
But forever you and I will be the ones
Who found out what forever means

When I said I do, I meant that I will 'til the end of all time
Be faithful and true, devoted to you
That's what I had in mind when I said I do

Truer than true, you know that I'll always be there for you
That's what I had in mind, that's what I had in mind,
    When I said I do

LOVE IT...BEST song!!! my DH and I BOTH love it and listen to it  all the time!

    just beautiful...nice choice for a "song" [:D]
    • Gold Top Dog
I had to think about this question for awhile because I don#%92t think DH and I really have “a” song. There are LOTS of songs that remind us of our shared experiences together, but not really any songs that constitute “our song”.

If I had to pick one song though that reminded me of wonderful times with him (and vice versa), it would be Galileo by the Indigo Girls. Over the past 10 years it has been a constant in our “by the campfire” songs and we have spent many a cold night huddled up by the campfire singing it and listening to its beautiful harmonies.

    Galileo- by the Indigo Girls
Galileos head was on the block
The crime was looking up for truth
And as the bombshells of my daily fears explode
I try to trace them to my youth

And then you had to bring up reincarnation
Over a couple of beers the other night
And now Im serving time for mistakes
Made by another in another lifetime

How long till my soul gets it right
Can any human being ever reach that kind of light
I call on the resting soul of galileo
King of night vision, king of insight

And then I think about my fear of motion
    Which I never could explain
Some other fool across the ocean years ago
Must have crashed his little airplane

How long till my soul gets it right
Can any human being ever reach that kind of light
I call on the resting soul of galileo
King of night vision, king of insight

Im not making a joke, you know me
    I take everything so seriously
If we wait for the time till all souls get it right
Then at least I know therell be no nuclear annihilation
In my lifetime Im still not right

I offer thanks to those before me
Thats all Ive got to say
cause maybe you squandered big bucks in your lifetime
    Now I have to pay
But then again it feels like some sort of inspiration
To let the next life off the hook
But shell say look what I had to overcome from my last life
I think Ill write a book

How long till my soul gets it right
Can any human being ever reach the highest light
Except for galileo God rest his soul
(except for the resting soul of galileo)
King of night vision, king of insight

    How long
(till my soul gets it right)
[til we reach the highest light]
    How long
(till my soul gets it right)
[til we reach the highest light]
    How long

We don't usually listen to "oldies" but we have two songs & both are older.  At Last by Etta James & What A Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.  Both kinda cheesy but anytime I hear them I think of him.  Whenever he hears it on the radio, he calls me to tell me that "our song" is playing.

I and DH#%92s wedding song was Wrapped Around by Brad Paisley.  On our wedding day after the ceremony we had a 3 hour limo ride.  We had Adult Fun in the back while in the Middle of Downtown Gatlinburg Traffic with the people on the streets trying to peck in LOL

Wrapped Around by Brad Paisley Every day I clock out
And head straight to her house
We cuddle up on the couch
But it always ends the same ole way
I'm drivin' home and it's incredibly late
    Something's got to change, 'cause

I've been wrapped around her finger
Since the first time we went out
Every day and every night she's all I think about
I need that girl beside me
    When the lights go out
I think it's time to put a ring on the finger
    I'm wrapped around

Went to the bank took out a loan
Went and bought the perfect stone
Called up her dad on the phone
I'm takin' him to dinner Sunday night
I've never been so nervous in my life
I want to do this right, 'cause

I've been wrapped around her finger
Since the first time we went out
Every day and every night she's all I think about
I need that girl beside me
    When the lights go out
I think it's time to put a ring on the finger
    I'm wrapped around

Yes sir I love her very much
I know it's only been seven months
    But that's long enough

I've been wrapped around her finger
Since the first time we went out
Every day and every night she's all I think about
I need that girl beside me
    When the lights go out
I think it's time to put a ring on the finger
    I'm wrapped around

I think it's time to put a ring on the finger
    I'm wrapped around

This is the song I sang to my wife when we knew we wanted to be together. I was finally coming out of the dark pit of rmy first wife passing away and this song seemed to say it.

"Miracle of Love" by the Eurythmics.

    How many sorrows
    Do you try to hide
    In a world of illusion
    Thats covering your mind?
    Ill show you something good
Oh Ill show you something good.
    When you open your mind
    Youll discover the sign
    That theres something
    Youre longing to find...

    The miracle of love
    Will take away your pain
    When the miracle of love
    Comes your way again.

    Cruel is the night
    That covers up your fears.
    Tender is the one
    That wipes away your tears.
There must be a bitter breeze
To make you sting so viciously -
    They say the greatest coward
    Can hurt the most ferociously.
But Ill show you something good.
Oh Ill show you something good.
    If you open your heart
You can make a new start
When your crumbling world falls apart.

    (chorus repeats...)
