Romantic Relationship with Someone You Met on the Internet???

In the long marriage thread, a couple of people made reference to either being in a relationship or having been in a relationship with someone they met on the internet.  I wonder, how common is that?  Have you ever gotten romantically involved with someone you met on the net?  How did it work out?  Any surprises like, did they misrepresent themselves?  Would you recommend the internet as a source for someone looking for dating/romantic material?  Anything about it you want to share with the class will be fine.

My husband and I met on the Internet in August of 1995. We got married December 3, 1997. We have been married almost 9 years and have 4 boys, 3 cats and 2 dogs.

As for whether I would recommend the Internet as a way to meet someone, I have mixed feelings on that one. For us, it worked but it also was when the Internet was just beginning. Now the Internet is more easy to come by and can be a more dangerous place than it once was. I think it would depend on the situation.

My husband and I chatted online in Yahoo!'s first such rooms. We met F2F for the first time in March of 1998...I flew in to Texas from California.

We'd said I love you prior to that over the phone and online of course. We chatted a bit short of a year but at first we were in a group of friends and were "just buds". I even went on a date with another one of our group...lol. He's the one that said "DUH...you guys like each other...so do something about it"..bless him!

Oh and I went on a couple of dates with guys I met online as well...one of which turned into a most enjoyable and brief fling with a simply adorable Irishman...that was my last piece of strange...lol.

    Yeah, DH knows about it...lol.

Yes, I tell people that we met on the Internet. What I do not always tell is exactly how we met in person.

Oh it was all about sex Billy. He had an accent and a handsome face, and I love Guinness...what else does a person need? A few booty calls to him while he was in town and when he left town for Ireland we emailed a few times and that was that. I got just what I wanted out of him and no more. [;)]

    As to your other ?

Yes we tell folks we met online. It's hardly a surprise to anyone anymore...but they DO assume we met thru eHarmony.com or somesuch. We have to correct them and tell them NO...we did it the old fashioned way...we went out and chatted to a roomful of strangers and found one another [:D].

My family aside from my Mom thought I was nuts and so did his family...lol. Those were funny times...

My wife and I met on the internet.  We are still too weirded out by it to tell people.  We say we met at a dance class, which is a big stretch of a white lie.  I guess, at some level, our thinking is, what kind of loser do you have to be to turn to the internet to meet someone?  [:)]
