    Something to think about...

I just read the post by Brenda and I am saddened by it. It seems quite a few good folks who were a positive contribution to the board have left. I think I-Dog should take into consideration as to why people, some of which who have been a part of I-Dog for many years, are now leaving in droves. I-Dog is one of the few boards that I frequent that discusses serious issues affecting the dog world and is composed of a lot of knowledgeable people from all walks of life. I would really hate to see this board turn into a "fluff" board. [sm=2cents.gif]

Me too Meilani.  I hate to see Brenda, or anyone who has valuable information or a need to learn, leave the site.  However, I have mixed emotions about the idea of banning people for being annoying.   It's a difficult thing and I wouldn't want to make the decisions regarding who or what to take a stand on.  I think that completely ignoring "attention hogs" is the best tool.  I'm still learning the ropes of the new board, but it looks like it may be possible to personally "ban" posts from people you don't care for.  Maybe that would be the answer for Brenda and any of us who find someone irritating.  Just a thought.

    Well said, Meilani.

I was very upset when i heard Brenda say she was leaving. I don't like it when people leave, its like i-dog gets more depressing, in a way.

I am in agreement that the "powers that be"  should re-evaluate why people are leaving... but I wouldn't lay this squarely on Joels feet... There are PLENTY of loudly obnoxious people on this board!
Joel is just one of them!

Regarding the blocking function: It sounds like a good idea until you try it. The result is a conversation that makes no sense.

I just don't get it.  Why are people reading those posts anyway?  I fully agree that they're obnoxious and full of offensive garbage, but why are people wasting time reading them or worse yet, responding to them?  It took me a few posts to figure out they all had the same immature, annoying tone.  Now, I see the name, I just keep scrolling.  If it's a post started by that person, I never even go to it.  I did accidentally earlie and thought "oops" and closed it.  This one person should not be enough to send people running from something they otherwise value and enjoy.  I'm not trying to sound insensitive but as I said, I just don't get it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for ignoring people. I do it all the time. I wish I could do it more at my job LOL!! But sometimes enough is enough. There have been many a thread where everyone was acting civilized and posting great information and it ends up going down the crapper. One thing I don't like is misinformation being spread. I mean no one knows everything but if you(collective you) are faced with the facts there's nothing bad about admitting you're wrong. Another thing I've noticed is some folks have gotten away with acting a complete fool. I've seen insults and name calling being tossed left and right and posts started with the intent to start trouble. I just hope with this new board that people will keep their sanity and not go off the deep end. I love that I-Dog is filled with great, knowledgeable people and I'd like to see it stay that way. [:)]

I think that we all, as adults, have to conduct ourselves as adults.  Those who do not, will eventually be asked to leave.

I had just a dreadful time with a recently departed poster, BUT I reacted to that person and every time I did that, I made it just that much harder for the Powers to reprimand that person cuz I was being almost as badly behaved.

When we constantly feel the need to publicly display our displeasure with another poster, and when we do so in a rude manner, than someone is going to notice.

From my perceptive, I'm so darned used to stepping around the poop, or picking it up, that it really doesn't bother me if the garden isn't all clean and pretty.  Annoying posters have been coming and going for the two plus years I've been here...I don't see that changing anytime soon.  We just deal with it and keep going.......and try to keep laughing while we clean it out from between our toes.

I'm pretty sure the "just post a smiley in response" tactic worked (is working?) against one particular poster in "Training".  I don't see him posting anywhere near as often anymore.  Just a thought.

I've been a lurker for about a year now and posted every once in a while.  I left it for 3 days and I came back to find the place remodeled and a few of my favorite posters gone.  It's so sad.  Especially because of what we all have learned here already, and now it's just falling apart.  This is the the only forum I go to on a daily basis, because help was always on the way and it felt like home because a lot of the people got along, and we all were for what was best for the dog.  IMO it's not good for my dogs for these posters to be gone, that's how much I've learned from them.  I guess I'll have to find another place to lurk because this place just won't be the same.

You might just want to give the rest of us a chance before you go off to lurk elsewhere.  We've still got a pretty smart bunch of folks here.
