Are We TOO Puritanical??

Completely not offended. If I passed that on a newstand, I probably wouldn't have given it a second look.

Looks like... a baby suckling. Nothing unnatural or offensive about it. People are just LOOKING for things to be offended by aren't they?

It's a great picture!  I breastfed both DSs and my youngest niece when she visited (sis would run out by evening, so why mix up formula when Aunt Lori has it alread "on tap"?).  My SIL is one of those "zipper up the back" types who was uncomfortable one day when we were both in the car with our babies.  We were in a mall parking lot and I was nursing DS#1.  She wanted to know if I wanted her to moved the car so nobody would see! I politely told her I was nursing my child, NOT exposing myself and kept right on feeding Andrew.

FWIW, my kids never dealt with the miseries of ear infections and are both very, very healthy teenagers due, in part, to being breast fed.  If people are offended by me doing th ebest for my child, so be it.  They are not worth my time!!!

    Couldn't be more natural.

Lovely, comforting picture, kinda brings back the warm and fuzzies.
There is nothing like taking that time to just relax and enjoy the moment. Wish I had that sort of time now.

    Angel, you make me laugh.
My dad use to say that when your young, they are pleasureable to look at, when your old you use one to sleep on and the other to cover up with. [sm=biggrin.gif]

    Oh, please.....

I heard about a huge uproar over some magazine cover, but I hadn't seen it. That's possibly one of the least offensive covers on any of the magazines available. Did they not see the teenagers' and womens' magazines, next to those? How about the car magazines?

Seriously, people need to get a grip.

I wrote about that one on my My Space blog. I could not believe that those most offended were women and most of them are nothing but a bunch of insecure morons who are afraid that their husbands/boyfriends or sons might get off on seeing a breast. The interesting part was I showed a bunch of men that cover and they all saw the same thing... a baby being fed. I asked them if it turned them on. They said no. I asked them if they found it offensive. They looked at me as if I were crazy. One even said in regards to those who feel a woman shouldn't breastfeed in public "If I wouldn't eat a meal in a bathroom, why should a woman feed her baby in one?". He made a good point and it's a damn shame when men are more level headed on a subject like this. [;)]

With that said, I nursed my son and did so in public. I tried to be as discreet as possible but for those who've nursed a child.. the older they get.. the more they dislike that receiving blanket covering them. My son went so far as to hold on to my other boobage to make sure it didn't go anywhere and was on stand by. In the event that I have another child, I will nurse that one and if I have to do so in public I will. And if someone has a problem with seeing my breast from afar, they'll have an even bigger problem seeing my fist up close. [:D]

    That was hilarious, Meilani.  [sm=rofl.gif]

With 6.0 being a perfect score, I would grade the picture thusly:

    Artistic Presentation - 3
    Technical Presentation - 5
    Score - 4.0

Recognizing, as I do, that the magazine likely had a lot of input on how the photo should be shot, I would have used significantly more subdued lighting, especially on the breast.  I would have timed the shot for when the baby was falling asleep.  I would have used a female model with a smaller breast as I think the large breast in this photo overwhelms it.

If the intention of the photo was a portrait of the baby, disregard the above, but that would not have been how I would have shot it.

Good Lord - I breastfed both my kids in public - on public transportation, in restaurants, in church etc.  I just tossed a blanket over my shoulder and nobody except maybe another nursing mother would have had a clue. And anybody bold enough to lift up the blankie to get a *peek* at baby deserved whatever they saw.[:D]

I think its a beautiful picture.

Probe-I am a small B cup(barely)when not pregnant, but when pregnant, they swell to an overflowing C cup, when breast feeding, they are a strong D cup because of all of the *nutrition* they hold.  You are not likely to find a smaller-breasted nursing mother.  Sometimes I felt like I might tip over forwards for all the weight up there.   Though I do agree that I never fed my child sitting up like that, mine always cradled into my arms and laid back.

This picture is not offensive to me in the least, I think it is a beautiful and nautral thing to do.

What sickos. Almost all our advertising focuses on T&A yet these people have a problem with breast feeding?!

I also really don't get that a woman would be embarassed to let her husband see it. I have to wonder what kinds of relationships these people have.
