Oops, forgot to say that the "financial lessons"  Hannah is learning with the market tokens are fantastic, Steph!  It's important to build  a foundation of fiscal responsibility at an early age.  I think too many kids grow up without any lessons other than the examples they see around them, which aren't always good.  As an accounting person, I applaud your finding a fun way for her to learn some basics!

Julie, sorry to hear about your grandpa and uncle passing away. I've never spoken at a funeral and hope I never get asked to.

That's interesting about Abbie picking up on your feelings. She's like, if you're not into this, neither am I.

Best eulogy I ever heard at a funeral made the entire church crack up laughing.  The speaker (my cousin) told a hilarious story about his sister (the deceased) that involved drinking, smoking and fishing.  I've never heard anything like it at a funeral or memorial and I loved it.  The worst one I ever heard was my SIL talking about our FIL at his funeral.  It was all about her and how she felt and their amazing relationship ( he couldn't stand her, lol) .Then she got into politics and spoke so long that even the preacher fell asleep.

Hmm one thread - lots to keep up with now!

Julie I am sorry about your grandfather and uncle

    Neat stuff Steph

Jackie what do you mean you haven't hit 100* yet???? We've had quite a few days of 98-100*

Some huge storms are due today to perhaps give a little relief - it was absolutely miserable this morning.

Not much else here - frustrated with some things at work, what else is new.

The political ads are running all the time on TV again, it is truly never-ending these days and it is all animosity. Sad state of the world IMO

    That is about it

    have a good day

Lol Jackie I can't imagine a eulogy with politics in it! How totally awful Heh.

We have some weather relief here too. In fact it feels like fall. I love these temps but I really don't want them until Oct! So go away fall and bring me summer back.

I'm really tempted to book a trip to Scotland and do some hiking/touring. I have been there before and really want to go back on my own time frame

    My condolences, Julie.

Today my boss (a man) and I dressed like twins. Long-sleeved blue dress shirts, dark jeans, Navy blue socks, brown loafers. ConfusedThis has happened before, but it's been a while. Nobody else in the office got the memo.

Yeah I found it right away today, I'm sure this is a better way.  Just dropped Ava off at the groomer's, she loves going there but is always exhausted and starved when she gets home, she enjoys all the dogs there.  Groomer has moved to another  location and I had to use our GPS for the first time, went well, DH was worried but I wanted to drive myself, all went very well, so I will also pick her up when she is done. :)  Hope everyone has a great day.

Karen, we haven't hit a 100 yet. Yesterday we got to 98. It's not a big difference as far as how hot it feels but psychologically it does make a difference. lol

Tina, I think you need to go home and change clothes right away.  Put on some white socks. lol

So, this salesman called me a few weeks ago wanting us to buy some of his company's coil cleaning machines.  He emailed me some literature which I never had a chance to look at. He followed up with another email and included a video of the machine being used.  The vid starts out with a good looking gal, wearing a tight dress, cut really low to show a lot of cleavage.  She describes how wonderful the 12" wand is with a big emphasis on the 12" and a sultry wink when she says it.  The video didn't demonstrate or show that this machine did anything better than any other coil cleaning machine.  This morning the guy sent another email asking if I'd had a chance to look at the info he'd sent. I told him I had and that all I got out of the info is that they must think having a sexy gal talk suggestively is going to be an effective selling tool. I'm sure he's thinking "works every day". lol

Jackie -- that's too funny (but also a bit disturbing) about the "sales" video messaging. Sadly, it's a tactic a lot of companies endorse.  I'm glad you gave him some direct customer feedback, even if it's ignored!

Tina, the image of you and your boss dressing like twins gave me a chuckle!

Julie, we went to Scotland about 15 years ago and LOVED it.  We hope to go back one day.  DH was so enamored that he still occasionally states that he wants to move there.  He says this more often lately because he's about at his breaking point with the stress of his job and his mother's needs and demands.  I think he feels he needs to leave the country to get away from it all.

If you want to see a little Scotland scenery in the meantime, we just watched a cute movie filmed there -- it's called "The Angel's Share."  It's 2 or 3 years old and is a story about a young, new father who has had scrapes with the law but who is determined to turn his life around and starts on an interesting path after a visit to a whisky distillery.  All the actors must've been plucked out of the local town -- their accents are so thick that we had to put the English subtitles on to understand the dialogue!  But it was a cute movie.

I will have to see if that movie is on Netflix. I have never heard of it before.

Too funny about the sales video. Seriously give me a break! They need 2 sales videos one for when men are doing the buying and one for when woman are doing the buying. I think you should suggest their next video have a Chippendale in it.

    • Gold Top Dog

Its amazing to me what is considered acceptable marketing (not only that, but did the guy think through who he was sending it too?  I'd think that would fall into the "know your customer" category).

Our marketing guy (and he may have been joking, I couldn't tell if he was serious or not) said they are looking at doing some advertising where the hook line is "its time to get a pair"  (our compressors have 2 screws vs a competitors one) and while I found it amusing it didn't seem all that professional.

Julie sorry to hear about your relatives.  Interesting that Abby picked up on your feelings, very cool.

    • Gold Top Dog

I might have bought a few dozen of the coil cleaning machines if they'd used a Chippendale guy. lol  I did get a reply from that salesman. "I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t like the video, and that you didn’t notice the features of the machine, we do not usually get feedback regarding anything but the machine. But thank you for the opportunity." He then reiterated the features of their product.  Poor guy must be wondering where it all went wrong. lol

Steph, that possible ad sounds like so much in our industry. It's time people realized that women make buying decisions in this field too.

Vampire gnats.  About 6000 per cubic ft.  Taste terrible, can not see them, but swallowing one can choke you.  Anxiously awaiting the first frost.  They leave a huge welt.

Honey crisp apples will be plentiful this year.

Current favorite name may be Ryder, as in Red Ryder BB gun.  His sister is named Remington, grandfather is Ruger.  He barks and whines when he wants out-at 9 wks.  I would be more impressed if I had slept the last few nights.  His bladder is good for about 3 hours.

I have to go back to work tomorrow.  Have to pay for the new brakes on the truck.  You are supposed to work on the brakes every 200,000 miles apparently.

we have a class reunion in a few weeks.  Always fun to see how classmates have aged and gotten old, while we haven't.

    • Gold Top Dog

Lol Doug I'm sure you look just as good as you did in HS. Sorry about the lack of sleep but happy to hear you got a new pup!

    • Gold Top Dog

Julie sorry about your family's loss, I am glad that you were able to share stories of your  Grandpa.  I was able to share a couple of stories about my Granny when she passed, those that knew her well got a chuckle and it lightened the mood.

WTG Abby, Julie that does not surprise me at all, my boys and Shadow was so in tune to how we are feeling, both physical and other wise.  I think it is wonderful that Abby was telling you, it's ok we should leave it for the others.

Jackie, lol, at the sales video....it just makes you wonder what those men are thinking...oh yeah what am I saying? we know what they are thinking

We hit a record low this morning, 51 degrees.  Our high will be 70.  It is July 16th I cant hardly believe it.  I am lovin it.  I do hope we get some rain today.  Ron and I were talking on the porch last night, where was this cool weather the 2 summers we went without A.C. . lol.

Doug enjoy your reunion.  I just had my 40th.  When I walked in I thought I was at the wrong hotel, there were so many old people there in the hallways :)  Good thing we had name tags.

Take care all have missed seeing you

So much for this thread being stickied to the top.

Not much excitement here. I have a haircut at 1:00p. I thought it was last week and went to the hair dresser's. She told me my appointment was not on the 9th but the 16th. I felt pretty dumb.Embarrassed

The really cool temps we've had the past few days are not helping my tomatoes ripen. Crying
