Mindless Chatter

    Mindless Chatter

We haven't had one of these in a while. I'm all for just keeping one thread going rather than starting a new one every day.

Not much new going on. It's gotten hot here. We still haven't hit 100 yet but it's coming soon.

We ate brunch Saturday at a place we'd never been before. We could hardly walk when we left. We took a doggie bag home but the dogs didn't get any. lol So good.

I hope Ruby's pad is still getting better.

Tina, how's the garage door coming? How is Missy this morning? Glad her dental went well and she got those bad teeth out.

    • Gold Top Dog

I can not seem to find any of these threads anymore, guess most have just given up,  I don't contribute much but sure like to read them.

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes, it's hard to find the MC thread these days.  So much other clutter around.  I think many have given up.

I was able to get the garage door primed. It's going to look good with new paint on it. We've had so much rain and humidity that I wasn't able to do it until yesterday.

Missy is doing okay. I know I didn't follow up publicly, but she had a dental cleaning last week and 5 teeth were pulled. My only concern is that one lower tooth broke off below the gum line when the vet tried to pull it. Cats' jaws are very delicate and the vet was unable to remove the root for fear of breaking Missy's jaw. I hope it doesn't cause further infection.

One continuous thread is a good idea; it'd be really great if it was stickied to the top.

Stickied to the top!  You're a genius!  Maybe someone from dog.com will make that happen.

A single thread stickied to the top:  You guys share the "Best Idea of the Year" award, Jackie and Tina!

Sounds like a great brunch, Jackie.  There's a good one at a local winery near us -- the tables are set out on the floor among all the wine barrels storing wine.  It's a buffet, with lots of stations --made-to-order things like waffles and crepes, as well as fancier lunch type things, like pan-fried oysters.  And wine, of course.  We usually go when we have out-of-town visitors, so I'll be happy to join any of you there if you come visit the Willamette Valley area!

I was wondering about Missy, too.  I'm sorry she had so many toofers pulled, and that broken one sounds unsettling.  Fingers crossed she heals up with no infection and she has no more mouth discomfort.  Give her some scritches under the chin from me!

We've had some very unusual weather lately -- crazy heat (high 90's), but yesterday we had a big thunderstorm -- a rarity in the valley.  Ruby was a little anxious with the thunder, but did quite well.  The mugginess that followed was gross, but it's drier today (still reaching high 90's though).

Ruby's paw is doing fine -- she hasn't bothered with it in a couple days, and other than some residual scabby looking area, it looks okay.  She doesn't flinch when we try to touch it now.

I definitely like the single thread idea.

    DOG.com people, PLEASE sticky this!!!

I'm like Auburn, don't post much but try to follow what's going on with everyone.

We've been walking to a Farmer's Market (mostly because of seeing Jackie talk about how awesome theirs is so often! Big Smile ) a few blocks away on Saturdays.  Its really small, and most of the offerings are over priced, but its a good excuse to get everyone moving before it gets too hot.  Hannah likes it because they have a kid's program that every time she goes she can sign in and gets 2 tokens ($2 equivalent) that she can spend on fruit, vegetable, or herbs.  She's reached the age where she is constantly talking about wanting to buy stuff so this is a nice way to fulfill that urge.  Plus we've been able to talk about saving them for a couple weeks to have enough to buy pricier things which is cool.  We also let her walk Dusty (DH or I usually have Co-Co since I'm worried she'd pull free from Hannah) which is nice to let her have a little responsibility.

I'm going to have to post some pictures soon.  We got passes to go to Hershey Park this year since we aren't taking a vacation until late in the summer (speaking of, will we go past any iDoggers who'd like to meet up between PA and New Orleans?)  Aaron and Hannah have been having a blast!

I guess that's all I've got for now.

Tina, I hope Missy heals well/quickly from her dental.

Tracy, glad to hear that Ruby's paw is on the mend.

Hello all! I have Stickied this conversation! ( Is that a word? Oh, you know what I mean!) Please let me know if it doesn't work and I will gladly look into it. ASAP Thanks for your input, all! We are trying to quickly resolve issues as have been popping up!

    • Gold Top Dog

It looks like it worked, it was at the top of the page just now and had the word Sticky in green on it.  Thank you :)

    Thanks Michele!

I'm Kaitlin, but you can call me Michele, Jackie. But ONLY you can! :)

I like this idea! Yeah, Jackie and Tina!!

I'm all for a brunch tour--and it sounds like we already have two stops picked out.

I just took the dogs for a walk because storms (and rain) are on the way, and we know how Mozey hates to get her feet wet. (And, she does not like thunder at all.) We need the rain.

Ronnie goes "to school" again tomorrow--he did well with his obedience lesson last week, and it is super motivated to learn--especially when treats are involved.

I've been putting in a new fence (cedar) and it's in except for the gates. It looks better than it did, that's for sure!

    • Gold Top Dog

Sorry Kaitlin for not paying attention. I must be blind. lol   Thanks for making this a sticky!

Kate, I'm glad to hear how well Ronnie is settling in.  Stay safe in the storms and hope you get some rain without any Mother Nature drama. :)

Single thread. Good idea. I wanted to post over the weekend but there were so many threads that could have been 'mindless' threads that I gave up.

This last week and a half have been an emotional Rollercoaster ride. We have had 2 back to back deaths in the family, my grandpa and uncle. My gpa's funeral was very nicely done. I was asked to speak at it though which was a first for me. It went well and made me feel kind of good to tell some stories of the grandpa I knew growing up. My uncles funeral is on wed/Thurs. I really dislike the multi-day stuff and wish people would just get it all done in a day. That is just me though. Everyone has their traditions I guess. Anyway my boss and work family have been great, doing everything they can to help.

The upper part of the roller coaster is that I got 2 awards at work this week. Totally unexpected. So that is cool.

So here's a dog related story. We had sar training on Sunday and I wasn't going to go since I was feeling down and stressed (uncle died on sat). I went anyway thinking it would be better than laying on the couch moping. Well abbie and I started working a problem in a building and basically she was really mopey and slow. I couldn't understand it and she barely left my side. That's I'd not like her at all. She has no problem leaving me in the dust when she works and she always has tons of energy and drive. So, I was stressing about how she was working and started vocalizing that to the guy with me. The more I worried the less and less abbie worked until finally she completely shut down, stood her paws on my toes, leaned against me and just stood there. Meanwhile our hidden subject was in the same room less than 5 ft away. At the time I didn't put 2 and 2 together and was baffled by what was going on but after I out her in the car and thought about it I think she was reacting to my mood/stress. I didn't work her on any other problems and left training soon after but wow. That really took me aback. I never thought she would be that in tune with how I was feeling. I have seen plenty of other sar dogs do something similar when their handlers were upset but never figured abbie for that type. It was crazy.

An iDog brunch tour!   Count me in as the host for the Pacific NW, and as a guest at Jackie's spot and any other favorites you guys have!

Julie, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandpa and uncle -- deaths of loved ones are never easy, but if they were unexpected, that can add a certain kind of sadness and grief.  How nice you were able to speak at your grandpa's services.  I admire anyone who is able to give a lovely eulogy; it is comforting to remember special things about the person, things that are happy, not just sad.  I'm sure everyone enjoyed the memories you shared.

That reminds me:  For some reason, I came across the full text of the eulogy that Bruce Springsteen gave at Clarence Clemons' funeral, and it was excellent -- a perfect mix of sentiments: love, respect, friendship, sadness, humor.  The guy writes like a poet, that is for sure.  But I remember thinking that Clarence's family must've loved it - such a great summary of his life, not too sugar-coated, but full of love.

Congrats on the job awards -- that's cool.  And also cool how Abbie tuned into your emotional vibe.   I've heard stories about how some pets know when their person is sad or ill, but I can't say I've ever experienced it myself.  I'm sure it's more common in dogs who are trained or genetically predisposed to be alert and hyper-aware of their surroundings, but I imagine people have noticed it in their "average" pets, too.  That's pretty neat!
