Mindless Wed

    Mindless Wed

I can't believe the news coming out of the south over the snow storm, especially GA. I just can't fathom.  It's good to hear that people are helping each other out.

I'm on a conference call right now and there's a person whose voice is SO LOUD!!!!!!! It hurts my ears. In contrast everyone else is hard to hear so I'm constantly turning the volume up and down based on who is speaking. It's seriously annoying

I have a conference to go to this afternoon and I so don't want to go outside when it feels like 22 below out. *whine*

LOL, Julie...I use a headset at work and some people are sooooo loud, then some are so soft,, some couldn't hear me if I yelled at the top of my lungs and others say I am too loud.  There is just no happy medium. :)

I laughed at Doug's "Satan's spawn" story for the day yesterday.  Awww  life with a puppy!

You can just whine all you want about the cold, it is so darn cold the we are excited about the possibility of temps in the low thirties today...

Have a good day all, hope everyone stays safe and warm

~~ hands Julie some cheese ~~

Not much to report here. It's about the same as yesterday. Confused

Thanks for the cheese. I need it.

People are reporting seeing ice light pillars around town. google it. It's a pretty cool light phenomenon where the light reflects off ice particles in the air and forms colorful vertical light streams.

I also laughed at Doug's puppy story. I'm so glad all my dogs are full grown! I don't miss puppy training at all lol. Neiko ate every pair of my shoes when he was a pup. Plus the legs on my kitchen table chairs.

Those of us in the warmer climates are terrible when it comes to driving in the snow.  In our defense, I saw a lot of horrific accidents in northern states during the last polar vortex.  Maybe caused by people from down here who moved north.  :)Who does that, anyway? lol  I was surprised last week at all the semi truck drivers who were stuck/wrecked on overpasses that had iced over.  I guess the days of professional drivers are over.

Our weather is bright and sunny.  It's cold, for us but very nice out. It was pretty cold the last few nights.  Monday when I got home from work there was a small dog shivering in the bushes in my front yard.  He had on a harness but no tags or id.  I kept him overnight and took him to be scanned the next morning.  No chip, of course.  He wasn't neutered and his nails were about an inch long.  He's a cute friendly little guy.  I took him to the shelter yesterday and hopefully he'll get adopted.  Yes, I checked craigslist and the paper for lost dog ads.  I felt sad leaving him at the shelter but no way was I keeping him even for a few days.  He was too tempting. He did poop in the crate yesterday morning while I was going to work.  That was a chilly ride with the windows down.

We northerners have winter driving amnesia. It happens every winter with the first snowfall or ice event. Several months of nice weather and we forget how treacherous the roads can be. And then we get into our 4x4 trucks and SUVs and think we are immune to the danger because, by god, we have 4WD. Not a very bright bunch, likely because half our brain cells froze years ago. You know, the ones that control common sense. Indifferent

LOL!  I think it's true that most people overestimate their driving skills in all road conditions.

Butting in from snowy GA here!  A lot of the problem was that it rained most of yesterday before snowing after dark, so there is a sheet of ice under the snow, and the temp keeps plummeting so nothing is thawing out.  In 35 yrs of living here, I don't think I' ve ever seen Robins AFB shut down like this.  The trucks can't make the hills going into Atlanta and have traffic at a standstill for 30 miles or so.  And everyone got let go from work at the same time yesterday, which clogged the streets.  I have no reason to go anywhere, so I'll just stay put for a few days and worry about everyone else!   I grew up in MA and lived in Buffalo for a while, so I know better!

Hi Marty!  I was thinking of you when I saw the news reports about Georgia this morning.  I'm glad you're faring well.  It's true about just staying put during horrible weather.  I'm always amazed at people who insist on going out anyway.  Seriously -- unless you have a boss who is without any compassion or common sense or your job is of vital importance, just stay home.  And surely other errands and activities can wait.

I felt so bad for the kids who had to spend the night in their schools -- can you imagine how that would be for a 5 year old?  At first it might be fun, but I bet for a lot of kids, it got pretty scary when they wanted to go home to their parents and their own beds.  Poor things.

Jackie, having kept stray dogs overnight on 3 or 4 occasions, I know just what you mean about feeling bad when you bring them to the shelter.  Only once did we find the owner of a dog (thanks to Craig's List, not an ID tag).  The other dogs were all sweet, and one in particular really tugged at our hearts, but we did find out she was adopted.  I hope the little dog you found has a happy ending, too!

I have the best auto mechanic.  Yesterday when my car was ready, I was prepared to have DH come get me at work and drive me over there to pick it up, but my mechanic said he'd come get me.  He said he needed to get out of the shop for a few minutes.  So, he picks me up in my car and says he wanted to test the heat on the drive over because he flushed some line or something out -- to see if it would help a bit and buy me time from that $1,000 repair.  Lo and behold, it was noticeably warmer!  Not 100%, but my feet weren't chilly like before.  So, for $100, I got my oil changed, new wipers, and this temporary fix, so I'm a happy camper (or driver, that is)!

We are lucky that way too. There is so much to be said for a good mechanic that is the only one that works on your vehicles. He knows them inside and out and will do his best to keep you fixed. Ours is a jewel. I did tell him the other day I was thinking of setting up a special "auto" savings account with his bank. Add to it each pay period and when the more expensive things come up with our "older" cars he can fix it and draw the money out, :)

Hi!  We're pretty friendly and sometimes a little crazy. :)  Nice looking dog in your avatar.

ETA: Marty , that makes sense about why people were having so much trouble driving in GA.  Ice underneath the snow =disaster!  I'd never survive up there without a dog sled. lol

Definitely true.  I told DH that if we ever do get a new car, then it has to be another VW because this guy only works on German cars (not that I wouldn't want to drive an Audi, BMW, or Porsche, but VW is more in my price range!).  He's owned the shop for years, and he happens to live on my block and is a great neighbor, too.  DH wants a Subaru next, but I told him we have to have VWs until our neighbor retires!  Tongue Tied

Hello pitsRcool!  Missed your post while typing mine.  Welcome to this goofy bunch!

Your dog is so cute.  I've got a grey and white pit-mix, too -- but she's only got white on her paws, her chest and the tip of her tail (as you can see in my blurry avatar photo)!
