On a lighter note, I just got a text from DH, who is at work, "Someone here just told me that without the moon we wouldn't have night, because the moon covers up the sun."
I believe that too - when I was 6 years old LOL

Janice -- I'm laughing too -- and I don't want to KNOW where your husband works!!

Karen -- you're a brave woman to even consider a party like that -- more brave than I am

Jackie -- dang, I'm sorry -- about all of it.  The capacity for "bad day" can be like an over-stuffed Tyvek envelope that gets ragged but just doesn't quite burst - but it makes a total mess out of everything else in there!

Awwww, I'm sad thinking about Willa and Riley and remembering how tough life can be as a child. :(

    LOL about the moon!!!

My boss just purchased a house about an hour from here and the elderly couple that sold it to them moved into a retirement condo type place. They weren't able to take their older dog (a lab mix) with them and the dog had lived her whole life on this acreage anyway, so they asked my boss if she could stay. It didn't take long for the resident dog and my boss's dog (also a lab) to have a fight (both females). They had a few and then my boss said they were now friends and getting along great. I warned him to be prepared for it to happen again and it did. He woke up to a horrific fight this morning and said had he not been there, his dog would've killed the other dog. His dog is in surgery now to repair a punctured artery :(.

That's so sad, Cathy.  Especially since he was trying to do good thing by letting the dog stay.

The moon comment is hilarious, but I slept very poorly last night, so being overtired and reading the posts about the cat, Willa, and Riley, I'm feeling a bit weepy at my desk!  I'm not a mother, so I can only imagine how your hearts feel when you see and hear such things, Janice and Lisa.  Childhood socializing and play shouldn't be so difficult, but it often is.  I'm sure we all remember situations when we felt stung or hurt by other kids' actions or words.

Not to sound like a dime store psychologist, but it's interesting that Willa came up with the idea to wear the pirate shirt.  That's a creative way to try to remedy the situation, rather than feeling sad or angry.  Wondering if the shirt might affect the boys' actions seems to show that she really gave it some thought.  On the other hand, those stupid boys shouldn't decide it's okay to play with her just because of what she's wearing (but I suppose we kinda see that in some adult males, too)!  Willa and Riley are both lucky to have great, sensitive Moms (and Dads!) who will help them navigate in this crazy world!

Bruce Springsteen show tonight!  I wish I was more rested . . . the arena's website says that the estimated end time for the show is 11:45pm.  That means we won't get home until long after 1AM.  Should make getting up for work tomorrow a bit difficult.  Oh well, the sacrifice will be worth it!!

Cathy, I just saw your post . . . how sad!  I hope the dog is going to be okay.  I wonder what they'll do now?  What an upsetting situation.  Crying

You should be so lucky - he often plays well past 1 am.  Better have a couple of vodka & red bulls.

Deb, what time did your show start?  They're saying 7:30pm here, and no opening act.  I expected a 4 hour show, so 11:45pm seemed reasonable, but maybe he does an intermission?  Or, he'll start later.

Yeah, I just told my friend we'll be needing some caffeine-laced drinks, for sure!

    • Gold Top Dog

    He will definitely start later.

Tracy - can't you take tomorrow off? It would make it much more fun if you weren't worrying about getting up early. When I saw Bruce, I could've been dead tired and I'd have perked right up. He puts on a really great show.  I think I probably mentioned this before but when I saw him at an outdoor arena, they had to use fire hoses to keep the people back from the stage. It was crazy but in a very cool, memorable way. We saw him in Germany and it was his Born in the USA tour YesCool

My boss said the vet suggested trying some medications but I'm not sure if he meant for one or both dogs. I told my friend that I still wouldn't consider it and he agrees that rehoming the resident dog is the only viable solution. It's sad but hearing him describe the scene brought back some awful memories and I hate for anyone or anyone's dogs to have to live like that.

I probably should've scheduled the day off, but I already took 2 days off last week, and I don't get paid time off, so I thought I'd suck it up.  DH is taking the morning off, so at least his alarm won't go off at 5AM.  I'll sleep until the last possible minute and I won't worry about getting to work right at 9AM.

I sure hope your friend can find a good option for rehoming the dog.  She'll have the stress of her injuries and recovery, as well as having to adjust to a new home.  If she's older, and possibly in need of more medical and/or aging care, that'll make it harder to find a willing adopter.  I hope it all works out as well as possible.

It is tough! 4-year-olds shouldn't have to worry about such things. She is a very smart girl though. I, too, thought it was a creative attempt. However, she doesn't like to wear girly girl clothes, so it won't really be that different. She loves to wear a Superman shirt she picked out in the boys' dept at Old Navy. I think maybe one of the reasons kids are hesitant to play with her is because she is so shy, and she is an observer. She'll play fine with other kids she knows, but in a new/newish situation, she likes to join in but mostly watch the other kids.

    Have fun at the show!

The resident dog wasn't hurt but my boss's dog was but it'll still be very sad. The previous owner's daughter lives nearby and said she'd take her but the dog doesn't get along well with her dogs either. Hopefully the daughter will step up and help find this old girl a new, safe home.

I remember an acquaintance telling me I wasn't the type of party guest who had the lampshade on her head -- I was the type who stayed on the sidelines watching everyone else, yet still having good time.  That's actually true.  I was more of an observer as a kid, but the role is a bit easier to wear as you grow older and feel more confident.  Being shy and/or observant of others can be a very valuable quality . . . think of the writers, for example, who have built great careers around it!

Oh, I misread your earlier post, Cathy --- I didn't realize your boss' dog was hurt.  I hope she heals rapidly!

It is just terrible, heck I am so old that I got a note sent home because I was playing football with the boys when I was in 4th grade. The teacher said I would be suspended if I kept playing with the boys..........what was I 9???? Craziness! I just hope that Willa and Riley just keep on being who they are and ignore the nonsense.

Oh dear about the dog fight, what a nice person to attempt to take in the other dog and how unfortunate that they wound up fighting. So sad all the way around Sad

I am feeling fairly overwhelmed by what I need to accomplish in the next week...............
