Sending lots of get power back to everyone still waiting.

Yes, I was very, very lucky.  But some people in the NY/NJ area are still in really bad shape. I hope those angels from Illinois can work their magic everywhere !!

This was the e-mail I sent to Ameran Illinois the first thing this morning:

Ameren Company:         Ameren Illinois Account Type:   Residential Account Number:            Question, Comment, or Inquiry: I just wanted to tell you that one of your crews restored my power last night in Metuchen, NJ after being out for 9 days.  We had no heat and no hot water either.  Seeing your guys walk down our street was literally like seeing angels from heaven.  They were tired and worn out and had taken a lot of abuse from some very rude people in other towns.  We went out and got them hot coffee and donuts and they were just so grateful.  After abut 5 hours, our power was restored all the neighbors were out there clapping and laughing and crying.  We tried to give them a tip for all their hard work, but they wouldn't take a dime.  You should be very proud to have these guys who left their own homes and families to come out here and help/save us.  I just want to thank you and your crews so very much !!!!  You guys rock !!!!

    This was their response:

    Dear Deb Walsh:

Thank you for contacting Ameren Illinois.  We very much appreciate, under the incomprehensible conditions that you and your fellow New Jersey residents find yourself in, that you have taken the time to send us an email of thanks.  Your actions, in this time of your great distress, show as an unquestionable example of the humanity and grace of the people of New Jersey.  We are honored to be able to play a minor role in the restoration of a safe and effective utility grid for you and your neighbors.  As you might imagine, we don’t see much tidal surge within our state, however, we are not immune to significant weather events, be it from hurricane remnants or otherwise.  So, we have been on the receiving end of assistance as well and understand how comforting it is to see someone come to help.  Please be safe in your efforts to rebuild your life and your community, and know that by your email your resilience will not be questioned.

Moral of the story:  just go out and be nice to people today !!!!

That's really nice, Deb, especially because you received such a prompt, personal reply.

Woo hoo!! DEB IS BACK!!!! I hope the Illinois crew (and all the others) can help the other folks, too. Deb, what a great email you sent to and received from the Illinois company--I know it made a difference.

Was supposed to take Dad to a doctor's appt today, but the ferry runs have been cancelled due to the nor'easter, so I'm cleaning instead. Might make a pie later on, too. My favorite pie apple this year is the Macoun (a cross between the MacIntosh and the Jersey Black).

OK, back to vacuuming. I think I must have 3-4 Labs with all the shedding that's going on!

I am big on writing thank yous and atta boys.  Very nice Deb, although I will have to say I am very emotional today and that is the second time today you brought tears to my eyes.  Smile

Crying can I have another Martini please!

Deb, I'm so glad you wrote to thank the crews from IL and I think the email you received in return was fantastic.  It's such a shame that some people were rude to the utility crews but I'm pretty sure you and your neighbors made their day.

Kate, stay safe and I wish I could have some of that pie. :)

Just got back from taking Twister for his blood work.  He's always happy to see everyone there but even happier to leave. :)

So glad to see you (Kate and Deb) back!! YAY!!! Hopefully Karen's family will be up and running soon as well.

(((Deb))) I missed you and I'm so happy you're back and that things are improving for you and your family. That was a super nice email that you sent regarding the crews that helped and the response was equally as nice. What a great way to start my day....oh, and the elections are over Big Smile

Kate - hanging out and making a pie sounds like my perfect kind of day. Well, I've actually never made a pie from scratch but I sure enjoy eating them.

Jackie - I hope the news is good on Twister's blood work.

I took a benadryl last night to see if it would help with my earache and I think it did but I'm really groggy today. I took an allergy pill and a Mucinex to see if that'll help as well. I'd actually scheduled a dr's appt for this morning but cancelled it when I woke up feeling better. Hopefully I won't regret that.

Encouragement can be such a cycle.  Such a good thing to start and then *keep going*.  Thanks for sharing that Deb.  Tearfully it made MY day too!

OK, that TOTALLY made me well up with tears!

SOOO Glad you are back, Deb.  I've been so worried about people without power facing this storm arriving today/tonight.  You painted a picture of your experience out there with those utility workers, and their response is just....  Crying HUMANITY!  Would you mind if I shared it with others?  (I'll take out your name)

I wish nothing but good for both of the presidential candidates.  We ALL have work that can be done together to minimize our differences and find common ground to get eachother through these difficult economic times.  I don't want to be divided from any of my American neighbors.  Whether I agree with them, or detest their behavior/beliefs ("legitimate rape"?!) they are all Americans and I'd rather work with them to create a strong and prosperous America.

Sure - maybe it will inspire others to be nice and help out when you can.

    Deb, awesome email and reply!

Would someone just render me unconscious.  I don't think I can make it much longer at work.  I have my voice back, and my throat isn't as sore, but man just being here 4 hours has rendered me tiiiiired.  Trying to last a bit longer, to give my poor coworker some respite since she covered for me yesterday when I was home.  Must. Stay. Awake. (when all I want is to crawl into bed with either Moki or Ari and snooze).

Oh, Moki is now a naked cat.  I had to shave her, because she got terribly matted.  I'm awful about keeping her brushed out (bad human).  She was such a good kitty.  She let me shave her with minimal fuss.  She needs some spots on her belly shaved, but after getting 95% of her shaved down, I figured she earned a reprieve!  I forget just how SKINNY and TINY she really is.  I swear, with her fur she's 7lbs, but without I wouldn't be surprised if she were more like 5 or 6 lbs.  Vet said she's at a great weight though.  Thankfully, Moki doesn't really hold a grudge and has forgiven me for her nakedness.  I made sure she had some extra snuggly blankets and turned the heat up in "her" room lol.
