Deb, have fun! Drink a few for me. :)  Please don't leave Tina in charge.  She makes us do weird things while your gone and she hits hard with the 2 x 4.

Sharon, glad you enjoyed the concert.  Who did you see?

Kate, don't worry about what they'll get up to while your gone.  As long as it all washes up with water... lol

    Karen,  deep breaths.

I'm about blind from looking for Christmas cards.  I've ordered enough for ten years. Sad

OK, I've wasted most of the morning and really need to get some of this work off my desk.

Jackie - I went to see Celtic Thunder.

I can't wait for next week.  I'm off from work and it's "Operation Clean House" week.  I plan on purging all the crap we've collected, but haven't touched, used and likely even thought about in 5 years.  And, there's a lot of it.  Plus, overall cleaning, and fixing up some stuff.  Once I purge my house of all the crap we've accumulated, I'm going to plan out some DIY projects to be done over the next year.  My brain is whirling with possibilities lol.

I got dismissed from the first trial I was called for because I can't come tomorrow. I actually have to stay, and They may call me for another. Given that they won't even start anything with us until 2, there is no way I can serve on a jury, unless it will be a very short case. Why are they wasting my time and making me stay for this?

I am shocked they let you use that as an excuse. Here in MI - unless you have a major vacation planned or a medical reason - once you are on that jury that is it. I think you allowed one pass to postpone jury duty - but after that you HAVE TO go. They don't care what you have planned.

That is the way it is here too.  In fact, if you are selected, you have to be available for however long the trial takes.  All that is in the summons you receive.

I actually got called on stand by in the summer, and they let me postpone and choose my date because I am a private contractor, and it would have been a significant loss of income. This judge let people off to go to job interviews. My meeting tomorrow is an IEP meeting. Technically, I don't really absolutely have to be there, but I'm not telling the judge that. Plus, of everyone involved, I know the student best aside from the parents. I also might be the only one with a clue about the program he is going to be using to communicate. He can't talk, so this is really important that I show up. I also have another one on Tuesday, so if it went on long, that would not work. I do absolutely have to be at that one. That one has good chances of going to court. Someone needs to go in to that meeting and convey how bad things are.

As bad as jury duty can be (I've served on a federal jury for two weeks) it's a shame that most of the time it's the people you really don't want serving on a jury who are available and willing to serve. JMHO that if more people who are educated and qualified to serve on juries would serve we might not see some of these insane outcomes.  Climbing off my soap box now and returning to work.

Sharon, good luck with the purging process.  It's so wonderful to get rid of all that crap.  We've been doing a lot of that lately and I love it.

I totally get it but they are super crazy strict here. There was a guy on the jury I was on that had just found a job (it was like his third day) after 2 years of being laid off and the judge wouldn't let him out even though the guy said he might get fired. Another was under treatment for prostate cancer and they wouldn't let him go either.

It is Jackie. I pissed and moaned last spring when I went and then got put on a trial (I was actually the head jury person). Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Now, my company pays full pay for jury duty so I didn't have to worry about that part. But it was very cool. They made a point of telling us that if we were the ones on trial we would want only those that we were out of work, etc on our trial. That pretty much shut everyone up. I think the 1st day of waiting to get picked is the hardest. Everyday after that it was really interesting and the days flew by.

Same way here too.   Here they let you know you are on the list, then they call you if they are going to put you in a jury pool, no excuses except medical or preplanned business trip...vacation etc, even at that you must tell them on the initial contact.  I have been called 3 times in my lifetime so far and have yet to be on a jury.   Not that I would mind, but both trials I was called in for settled out of court. The last one settled  when the defendant walked into the courtroom and saw the jurors sitting in the back of the courtroom.  It was domestic abuse and I might have been a little biased so that guy was probably smart to plea.

ETA: Jackie....I was going to get up on the soap box too but you beat me to it.  :)

I actually wouldn't mind being on a jury. Our school only pays for the 1st 3 days but I'd still be willing to do it. I got pulled for one many yrs ago and was just going through a separation from my ex and asked the judge if I could be excused. I think the fact that I was pretty choked up helped and he said "no problem" and told me to let the clerk know when I'd be available. Another guy also got excused right after me and followed me out. He was a lawyer and offered to represent me for my divorce. Big Smile

This day is flying by and as much as I try to get ahead, I'm falling farther behind. Crying

On a happier note, I wore my new boots today and I love them!!! I just couldn't wait for the weather to cool off, so I have on skinny jeans, a tank top and boots. Yes
