    Back to Reality Chat (Wednesday)

Holy crappola it's cold!  The temp dropped an easy 20 degrees in Michigan since we left last week!  WOW - that's an eye opener.  I can feel my tan being sucked right off me as we got off the plane last night.

Cancun was wonderful and I plan to post some pictures later today if I get a chance.

I definitely got a "back to reality" slap on the face when we changed planes in Atlanta though.  I received 2 not so pleasant voicemails from Riley's teacher informing us that we missed her IEP meeting (education plan) yesterday at 1:00.  I was like WTF!!!  I call home and ask my sister if anything came home with Riley from school since last Thursday since I never even knew we had a meeting.  Plus I emailed the teacher at the beginning of last week letting her know that we would be out of town through yesterday and left Todd's phone number and my mom's to get in touch.  I don't bring mine because work would never stop calling.  So, we get home and find a packet in the mail (my sister doesn't open the mail and shouldn't have to) that was mailed last Friday (we got it on Monday) with the information regarding the meeting.  Again, WTF.

Seriously, you give one day's notice for an important meeting like her IEP and expect me to drop everything with work to be there smack dap in the middle of the day (I would have but that's nuts).  I am so mad.  Mad at the teacher for not remembering we were gone (she did acknowledge my email at the time) and mad at the administration for the absolutely unexcusable one day notice for an important meeting like that.

Just trying to relax this am but I am wound up tighter than a drum.  Vacation seems very very far away right now.  SIGH

Take a deep breath, close your eyes and dream of the sea :)

So sorry you had such a quick slap from reality, ours waited until we got home :(

Overcast, chilly & breezy today. Glad to have survived the monsoon & tornado activity

Took B to the vet yesterday - its his shoulder so we have a diagnosis, unfortunately it's a LONG healing process. They also aspirated two lumps :( We had a total Marmaduke moment on our way in though. Wet shoes + slick floors+ plus excited pulling Beast = Karen doing the full banana peel cartoon slip.

    Lol Go Willa!

Gosh it's awfully dark this morning

Karen - I am sorry to hear about B - but at least you have a diagnosis.  I am trying to catch up with everything, but what is the diagnosis?  I am sorry, but I did giggle at the Marmaduke moment - thanks for lightening up my morning.

Jan - just read about Willa - THAT IS TOTALLY AWESOME!  YAY!!!!!!  Go Willa Go! Go Willa Go!

I haven't read about willa yet. Must go read!

Karen, I missed what the diagnosis was and what they did to figure it out

Lisa, I laughed at you tan being sucked away. Funny how quickly that goes, isn't it? I would be really mad at that teacher/school too. However, just tell them off and reschedule. I am sure that it won't be a problem given that it was their mistake.

My reality check last night was noticing that it was pitch black at 8:30 :( it also went down into the 30s.

Did anyone watch so you think you can dance last night? It was so entertaining. I love good dancing.

    Brrr

Just read about willa. Yay you go girl. She is going to be the most athletic kid from the sounds of it!

Speaking of olympic gymnastics, there is a guy I work with whose daughter is being scouted for olympic level gymnastics. He was telling me about how stressful of a decision it is to let her dedicate her young years to it or not. They want her to practice 6 days a week, 2 times per day. Something like 7 to 10 in the morning, then go to school then back to them gym for 3-4 more hours. She would have to get a tutor to supplement the school she would miss. Plus they pay $400 per month for her to be part of the gym and they want her to sign a contract that would allow them to get part of the money she would make in endorsements and all that. She is only 10! Crazy. The guy is totally stressing and says when his daughter isn't at the gym she is home practicing anyway so she obviously loves it and is highly driven. And btw, the girls who won the individual golds are earning around $15M right now. The girls who won team are getting around $3M. Nice way to set yourself up for the future.

Lisa I am glad our Bugs-a-duke moment gave you a chuckle - it was very cartoon-esque. I could have killed him at first but then I just laughed and realized it was a total 'us' moment LOL Pure ridiculousness Big Smile

I'll put a post in health about his shoulder

A good friend of mine is having surgery this afternoon because cancer has returned. About 10 yrs ago she had thyroid cancer and had to have major surgery, chemo. radiation you know the whole deal. They found out in late July that she has some new growths in her neck so that is what they are taking out today. The surgeon seems positive all will be fine but I can tell she is terrified and her husband, who is significantly older than her, is really freaking out.  Good thoughts appreciated!

It's raining............we were supposed to be done with it Angry

bwa hahahaha! I know how that feels.

    Bummer about Riley's teacher, though.

Thanks for all the Willa cheers. She is a total tomboy, not much of a girly girl at all. She was SpiderMan for Halloween last year and this year she's going to be Wolverine. lol  She loves sports and exercise. Although I am not ready for winter yet, I am excited to get her out on the snowboard again.

I think all the ego boosting from yesterday helped this morning (2nd day of school) go much smoother. We had to get bundled up in our winter jackets and hats though. Brrrr! It is way too early for low 30s. Crying

    Good vibes for the Bugsman.

Julie, that's such a tough decision. It could be the most awesome thing to happen in her life or it could totally stress her (and her family) out. If she wants to do it, I'd say go for it. It's a rare opportunity. Is there a chance she/the family can talk to some of the older students? Like someone who has been through it already; possibly set up some kind of mentorship?

Karen, good vibes for your friend. I've heard (from an endocrinologist, when I had a cyst on my thyroid) that thyroid cancer is one of the easiest to treat (relatively), and has some of the best outcomes (compared to other kinds of cancer.)

Karen, good thoughts for your friend's surgery today. I can't imagine how worried she and her husband are.

Mr. Sinbad has decided he absolutely cannot go out to pee because the grass is wet. I'm working from home today so maybe he'll go out later. Silly boy!

    Way to go, Willa!!

    Yay, Willa!

Karen, good vibes for your friend and her husband.  Sorry you're getting more rain.

Our weather is beautiful lately.  Dry air, mild temps and that feel of Fall in the air.  Love it!

Lisa, reality is so overrated.  Sorry about the stupid mixup with Riley's IEP meeting.

Sinbad, Twister understands how yucky it is to have wet feet unless it involves playing or chasing. :)

Today is going to be stressful at work for several reasons.  I'll need all the patience I can muster up.

Welcome back, Lisa - stay calm !!

Good vibes for Bugsy and your friend, Karen.

    WTG Willa Girl !!!

Jamison refuses to step on wet grass too, Kate.

Oh and Hey Tina:  I got some yogurt when I did the food shopping over the weekend.  Dannon's Light & Fit line has Honeydew Melon flavor as part of its Seasonals flavors.  It's pretty good.

I feel Bugsy's pain as I, too, have been dealing with shoulder pain that is radiating up into my neck. I think I pulled something and it is aggravated by keyboarding all day. Am trying to adjust my position to put less strain on it until I can get in for a focus massage. Last time the masseuse worked a miracle and I could use another.

Yesterday a friend gave me a buttload of tomatoes, so I made spaghetti sauce. It was purely coincidental that we were chatting about sauce here yesterday. Worked out, though. I got to use up part of the green peppers the same friend gave me Sunday, as well as the rest of my fresh basil and oregano. I'll give it a test run tonight since I was already baking chicken when he called. Sheesh, that almost makes me sound domestic or something.

    Go, Willa!

Thanks, Deb. I'll look for it this weekend when I shop. Smile

    WTG Willa!

Karen good vibes for your friend.  You didnt hurt yourself with the bugs a duke moment did you?

Walked out of my house this morning 3 rabbits scampered away...saw a neighbors goat on my side of the fence, ugh, too late to let Rocky out to herd him back in his own yard.  My 45 degrees seems like nothin compared to what some of you had this morning. It was chilly couldnt find my shawl (handmade by a friend) not to hot, lightweight, perfect for these kind of mornings.  I am sorta going crazy cause I moved everything to fix my ceiling and not moved it all back yet, now fall is trying to creep in and I am going to have to get organized.

So sorry your already feeling the reality and loosing your tan.  Vacation is good but it seems like the catching up can be rough.

Jackie on the fritter recipe, do you peel the zuchinni or shred the whole thing?  Got my sauce done late last night, so tonight will be the assembly line :)

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

I grate the whole zuccini, peel and all.  I use small zuccini with tender peels.
