Back to Reality Chat (Wednesday)

Having Willa in 4K makes me realize what a control freak I am about my kids. I'm sitting here wishing that they had a webcam so I could see the kinds of things she does all day. Geeked

Trust me that doesn't make you a control freak.  I wanted to install one at home to see what Riley and Todd do all day - that makes me a control freak ;-)

     Woo hoo Willa!

    Reality is definitely overrated.

Migraine yesterday sent me home from work.  The significant other also came home in the afternoon early, due to feeling like crud.  We were a barrel of laughs yesterday, for sure.

I'm starving right now.  I haven't eaten anything since yesterday morning.  Sadly, not time for lunch yet and I didn't bring anything to eat to work today.  I'm smart like that :)

Jan, yeah she goes to the same gym as jordan weibler so he has talked to her mom on the phone to get advice since they have gone through this same thing. Her mom advised to wait a bit (2 yrs or so) before they get into the 2x per day practice thing. She had some other things to say too regarding contracts and such which all sounded like great advice to me. They are really lucky to have a recent olympian in their back yard to talk to. I can't imagine trying to navigate all that stuff on your own without a mentor.

Jan that does not make you a control freak - I imagine most parents feel that way!! Most of us feel that way when we leave our dogs somewhere!!!

Tina I feel YOUR pain - I have rotator cuff issues in both shoulders and unfortunately Gin our Bugs-a-duke moment has my right shoulder screaming again. :(  Tina I do find that sitting at a keyboard really aggravates it so I try to make sure I am not holding my shoulder at a funny angle or have my arm extended for long periods

Julie I posted the shoulder story here http://community.dog.com/forums/p/118686/981378.aspx#981378

its chilly here but not like y'all are having just wet and chilly

Welcome back Lisa. How sad is it that I feel like you just left a few days ago? I hope the time didn't fly by as fast for you. Oh, and I'd have been furious about the dropped ball on the IEP mtg Super Angry.

Julie - I watched a little of So You Think You Can Dance and agree about it being pretty cool.

Karen - I'm thinking good thoughts for your friend. I too had to have a partial thyroidectomy but it wasn't cancerous. I know that it's one of the more treatable cancers but it sounds like your friend's is more serious than mosts. I hope the surgery provides a good outcome.

Feeling pretty lucky about our weather these days. It's in the low 90s and as nice as could be. I can feel the days getting shorter though and that always makes me feel funky. In fact, I've been feeling weepy the last few days and I have no idea why but maybe it's the change of seasons. I drove in this morning thinking about Zoey, the dog we thought about adopting from Grace and then didn't and they euthanized her a few days later. It felt like it had just happened. I haven't been back out to there since that sad day. Crying

I'm pretty sure the failing to notify you of a meeting, if you wanted to make something of it, could be made legal Lisa. I'm sure they'll happily reschedule though since they know they screwed up. I am so tired. Luke and Callie got me up at 2:30 and 3:00, still having butt explosions. At least they got me up to go out. I'm going to go try to take a nap for a bit before I got back to work.

Yeah, I've been avoiding admitting to myself that walking shelter dogs kills my arm. I've not done it all summer because my 2nd job schedule conflicts, so mostly it's better. I hope to get back to walking dogs in November, but I don't know if my shoulder can handle it anymore. This aging thing blows.

Isn't that the truth?!  You are spot on, Tina!!

I swear, every day there is something on my body that announces that it's falling apart.  Back pain, knees crackling, stiff joints in my fingers, sagging skin, failing vision (which reminds me of a thread I wanted to start about eye glasses/contacts/lasik surgery).  Whoever referred to them as the golden years was full of you-know-what!

Lisa, I'm sorry your vacation vibe had to be ruined so soon.  I've always found that about 15 minutes back at work is all it takes to make you feel like you never got away in the first place.  So irritating!  I hope you can get the IEP meeting rescheduled at a more convenient time.

Julie, we watch SYTYCD.  We were happy with the winners this year.  Believe it or not, DH watches it faithfully -- records it on the DVR, re-watches his favorite routines, roots for certain contestants.  Yet in 20+ years of marriage, we have never once danced together, at a wedding, a club, or anywhere else.  He just won't dance.  Confused

Karen, sending good thoughts for your friend.  I hope her surgery and recovery goes smoothly and it's not a return of anything aggressive.

Tina, reading about homemade tomato sauce with garden-fresh tomatoes is making me drool.  My absolute favorite thing to eat is pasta with homemade marinara -- simple like you described, with the fresh herbs, too.  Oh, I wish I had some now!

    Oh boy doesn't it!!

Unfortunately walking a dog does tend to irritate shoulder issues - I walked with a lady last night that is my age (late 40's) and she was complaining of similar pain that I get and her lab wasn't pulling just in front. But as we walked her pain was increasing just due to her arm constantly being extended Sad

I was soooooooooo active when young and have remained fairly active as I have aged. Good part is my weight and general health are good. Bad part: the joint issues from years of abuse and injuries when I played competitive sports. When I saw a doctor a few years back about one of my shoulders, he asked about how much sport I had played, when I told him, the young whippersnapper said, "at your age, with all the wear and tear you will have damage to both rotator cuffs" LOL

I used to LOVE running marathons but I am not built for it, I am heavy boned and big = German big LOL. Sort of like Bugsy my body wasn't put together for the amount of activity my soul desires Wink

Anyway, aging beats the alternative Big Smile

Thanks for the wishes for my friend - I was in the UK when she had the first incident and yes it wasn't good. She has a huge scars on her neck and chest. Looks like today's surgery was delayed but I don't know anything else

I'm the last person to be talking like a know it all but I almost never have my arm extended when I walk Shane. I was sort of trained myself out at HB and the person I worked with taught me to relax my shoulders and keep my arm/hand with the leash next to my side. If the dog pulled forward tugging, I was to stop walking until the dog stopped and when the leash loosened, I'd proceed. Granted, it doesn't always work on some of the crazy pullers but it's worked better than I ever would've imagined. I can't take credit for Shane being a good walker though. Someone trained him well but he will NOT walk on your right side for anything. We walk the dogs at HB on the left but he wasn't there long enough to have picked that up, so someone else taught him that. It's funny how compulsive he is about it though.

I need to write to someone and tell her that no, I am not coming to see her tomorrow. There is absolutely no reason for me to go out of my way to do so. I told her if she wanted me to come, she'd need to send me the document we were going to review 48 hours in advance (company policy, nobody is ever held to it, but I decided to hold her to it because she likes to push it to the last minute).

Actually, I decided I'm not really going to justify it. I'm just telling her I'm not coming. She knows the rules, she is an adult. She knows we could choose to hold her to the rules. I really don't give a crap why she can't get it done when the excuses are nonsense and she's always got one.

David's on a mailing list for Kennedy Space Center and he got an email about 4 p.m. yesterday that if he wanted it, he was in line to take someone's cancelled seat on a bus going to KSC to watch this morning's takeoff of the 747 taking Endeavour to California.  He left the house at 2 a.m. to catch the bus down in Kissimmee at 3 a.m.  Saw the take-off live and then the plane came back around and "buzzed" KSC to give everyone a good look at the shuttle perched on the plane's back.  Then he got to kick around KSC all day til the bus brought him back to Orlando this afternoon.

Nothing like watching history.  He's on a zillion mailing lists and they make me crazy .. but that one sure paid off!! LOL (*grin* and my husband brought me back "gummi shuttles" and some other fun stuff.  Gotta love that man!!)

That's sounds like me-my crew must walk on the left--loose lead/non-heal is fine, but the left it is. Is that old school? (My first dog training classes were in the early 70s, so I guess it is old school!) We have no sidewalks here on the island either, so it's probably also habit because of that.

no sidewalks here either so B is a left side only walker Smile

Cathy I know that ideally your arm should be relaxed and down - we certainly don't make the whole walk like that but not too bad. the woman last night never got her arm in a relaxed place
