Friday is Here Chat

Having a better Friday, than my start earlier this week.  I need to not take things personally, but only I can take being yelled at by clients only so much.  I get to leave early today, which is good because even when I leave at 1:30pm I will have put in 3.25 hours of overtime.  I decided to take it as 3.25 hours of comp time (which will actually be just shy of 5 hours at the overtime rate).  Rather have more time off to use down the line, than time and a half pay.  We have new staff starting this weekend, which make scheduling so much less frustrating.  It's great business picked up, not great when we didn't have enough staff to cover the additional hours!

I'm going to take Ari swimming with my unexpected afternoon off.  She'll have a blast and it makes me happy to make her happy.  That girl loves to swim.  Tonight, I'm going to try my hand at making Washington Apples (adult beverage lol) and steamed clams in a saffron broth.  Mmmmmmmmm.

Lisa, that's awful about your boss!

Cool mornings, cool nights and warm to hot afternoons.   All good.  I'm now stuck here waiting for Mr. City Inspector to come by and inspect and sign off on the heater/ac system so hopefully I'll hear from him soon and won't be here all day.  With the city you don't get a window of time, just that they'll call about 10 to 15 min. before they arrive.

Cathy, from what I heard on the news about the health care plan Congress knows they can't really force people to buy insurance that they can't afford, but they can and will raise taxes. I figure they've got their hands in my pocket all the way up to their armpits anyway, so if I'm going to pay more taxes for something I'd rather pay it to help people with health coverage than finance another war somewhere. People who don't make enough to file taxes or people who would be paying more than 8% of their income will be exempt from any penalties.

Speaking of penalties, I tried to get onto the DMV website yesterday to pay my car registration and couldn't, so I just mailed it in. It's not due until the middle of August anyway.  Apparently the CA DMV website has been down for 4 days and all kinds of people who waited until the last minute are now worried about paying that $30 penalty.  The DMV said they'd waive the late fee for them, but they'd have to take their registration to a DMV office ... and probably die of old age waiting in line. Tongue Tied

Agree with the annoyances. Lisa someone should kick your boss's butt.

It was 101* at 11:45 am. This doesn't bode well for the rest of today. Took the visitors kayaking, had lunch and we are now relaxing.

I saw that on the news. DH and I had both paid our registration just a week before online with no problems, so I guess we dodged that bullet. I can't imagine anything worse than having to actually go to the DMV - ick!

I took Shane for a nice walk and he is doing amazing with heel. He even managed to contain himself as we walked past bush after bush that sounded like they had lizards or other critters rustling around in them.

Does it bother anyone else when you're telling someone about something you like and they say "I don't like that...."? I can see if you're offering whatever it is to them and even then, a polite "no thanks" would suffice, but if you're just talking about something you like or just bought, it seems rude to me.

Lisa, I cannot believe your boss' behavior!  I'd feel guilty taking an unscheduled vacation day when there was an important audit going on, under any circumstance -- but to do so after being the dope who scheduled it at the crack of dawn in the first place ---- bailing on everyone else who got there at the crack of dawn?!  I'm not sure even Michael Scott would be that inconsiderate!

Janice, I hope your child-free morning was productive and enjoyable.  I'm imagining you skipping around your house and home office, crossing things off your To-Do List, singing or whistling, maybe some song birds twittering around your head . . . .  Big Smile

Tina, #1 on your annoyance list is one of DH's major pet peeves.  And what a tragedy about the little boy in your town.  What is it with these monsters who do such horrible things to innocent children?  The poor mother has to deal with unspeakable grief, not to mention regret and guilt about leaving her child with the BF.

Kate -- of all things to farm, I think garlic is an excellent choice.  One can never have too much garlic, in my opinion.  And, as an added bonus, you'll never have any vampires on your farm!

Yes - me! I recently took some chocolates to one of my Al-Anon meetings and another member went on endlessly about how much she dislikes sweets but loves salty stuff like Doritos. And if that wasn't enough, she tried one of the chocolates "just to see what everyone was raving about" then proceeded to spit it out, make faces, and rant for another 5 minutes about how awful it was. Really? Nobody forced you to eat it. And it was Godiva, FWIW. Butthead.

Dang I am not a chocolate lover but a Godiva dark chocolate is very decadent, especially the ones with raspberry in the center

lol. I emptied the dishwasher and put away three heaping baskets of clean clothes. I took the kids to daycare and went into town. I sat down at a small locally-owned restaurant/bakery and had a veggie omelette with hash browns and oj. Then I went to the local sporting goods store and splurged on a new pair of Keen sandals. I got some a few years ago, which I still wear, but at the time they only had my size in black. They're still in decent shape but a bit worn/stretched out. So I got some pretty new light blue ones. Smile

Then I went tanning. I only tanned once in my life before and that was my senior year of high school, for a wedding I was in. But I'm going to Belize at the end of July and I don't want my pasty white northern WI skin to burn! So I'm trying to slowly build up a light tan. Not healthy, I know.

Then I went to Walmart. Definitely not local or something I enjoy, but it had to be done. I just got paid today and I pretty much spent all of it today. Embarrassed But the kitchen is stocked.

DH is laid off for two weeks starting today, then he has 3 weeks vacation. So the lucky 8&$$turd has like 36 days off. No fair!

Yes it is, Lisa, and I can't wait!!! Big Smile Paradise

I can't believe I forgot to tell you about the best part of my day - getting to snuggle with an 8 week old black lab and breathe puppy breath!! Yes, the daycare family got another dog already. We talked a bit about Buddy and she got choked up. She said they weren't planning on getting another dog so soon but this just came up or something. She showed me a huge stack of papers about puppy training and such. Smile Oh my is that doggie a cutie. All ears and paws! *melts* His name is Diesel.
