My washer is leaving little brown marks on my whites.

There.s something called Washer Magic made by Summit that's supposed to remove scale and rust from washers.Never used it though.

I also saw a commercial for this, from Tide: http://www.tide.com/en-US/product/tide-washing-machine-cleaner.jspx  I wonder how it works.  My sister's washing machine (front-loader, fancy 'spensive) was leaving that stink that you get on your clothes when you leave them in the washing machine too long.  It was disgusting, and no amount of bleach hot water only washes was making any difference.  I am going to tell her about this if she hasn't already solved the problem.

Got home late last night to find Macie had ruptured her anal gland.  She was panting furiously because of the heat and the distress of her bum hurting her so much.  Brought her to the vet as soon as they opened.  While I was there I picked up Cora's ashes because her owner "hasn't had the guts to go there to get them" - in her own words.  I paid for Macie's vet visit, but I couldn't pay for the bill for Cora's stuff so thank god her credit card was on file.  It's been a busy morning b/c I couldn't just drop Macie off and let her owner come pick her up.  I had to sit through the appointment (45 mins) bring her back to the house (20 mins) and then drive from the house on to work (50 mins).  ugh.

PS, people, seriously, if you have a dog at the vet's office... CONTROL IT!  If I see one more dog on a choke chain attached to a friggin flexi-lead, I will choke the owner out on the spot and bring the dog to animal control.  They are idiots!  PS, your dog is as hyper as your kid, so, maybe I'll call child services, too, while I'm at it.  Poor Macie was being so good the vet looked around waiting for me to go get her.  "Uhm, she's right here, sitting quietly beside me out of the way of these crazy beasts in the lobby!"

Good Girl Macie, hope she is on the mend soon.  You are a good friend Paige,

    • Gold Top Dog

That was so good of you to pick up Cora's ashes for your friend, Paige.  I agree about some of the idiots in vet waiting rooms.  My vet's wait room is pretty small and it never fails that the person with the most out of control dog sits right where everyone has to try and get past it.  There's one corner away from most of the traffic but those people never sit there. grrrrr

DH has been so tired when he gets home from work this week.  Adjusting to his new position, etc.  Last night he had to stay late to set up someone's new computer.  I decided to fix dinner a little earlier than usual so it would be ready when he got home.  It was a delicious dinner and I did all the clean up afterwards.  I picked up the dog poop, cleaned the cat litter box, watered the garden and played with the dogs.  Some of these are his daily chores and some of them we share.  I was trying to get a pat on the back and recited to him all my good wifely achievements to him.  He looked at me and said "thanks for your service" in a very dry tone.  lol  It's funnier if you know he's working with a lot of military peeps.

I understand it's hard to control the otherwise obedient dog in that environment.  Gracie is good going in, but hates being there and gets needy and antsy.  She can pull like a freight train when she wants OUT.  She's had her fair share of Marmaduke-esque moments as she bursts through the doors from the back room w/a vet tech flying like a kite at the end of the leash.  But it was two Basset hounds on flexi's w/choke chains, one of whom was ALL over the place such that I stepped in btwn Macie and that dog after backing up/moving  multiple times.  Then a lady w/an out of control puppy Lab mix on the end of a flexi w/a flat collar, dragging this lady everywhere.  As the dog is choking himself out and coughing, the 6yr old girl is giggling and cackling like a mad person as she watches her puppy... like it's the funniest thing she has ever seen.   Then the child promptly climbs up and stands on the bench to punch her finger into the pictures of dogs on the wall, while the puppy lunges to try to stick her nose into Macie's backside.  Bad move.

Not to focus entirely on the bad - there was one man dropping off an enormous black lab who had him mostly under control, considering his size.  Also a lady with a small poodly-mix who was well-managed by the owner (even though she couldn't stop the nose touch btwn her dog and the puppy)

LOL, I think I've hit the glass ceiling with this job. Stick out tongue

I'm so sleepy after eating too much for lunch.  Should have stuck with my plan to grab a sandwich.

Paige, that vet waiting room sounds like a madhouse.  I'm glad my dogs are good at the vet and don't get riled up.  My vet treats exotics and lots of birds.  It does get kind of iffy if Belle notices someone has a bird in a carrier.  Gabby is fearful at the vets but she stays close to me and doesn't act up.  Reminds me I need to take her in for her annual exam pretty soon.

Lisa, good luck with Riley's appointment tomorrow.  I hope you get an answer to your questions before too late in the day.

I can't believe the drop in temperature.  It was 70 a little after 10 a.m. which means no higher than low to mid 80s today and it should drop down to the 50s over night.

I had forgotten how much more Max sheds at this time of year.  Good Lord, he should be bald by now. When I can run the toe of my shoe along the baseboard in the hall and wind up with a big hair ball, it's  time to get the Dyson out. Indifferent

Ditto! There must be at least 2-3 other Labs living here with all the fur flying around. Mozey doesn't seem to shed too much at all--thank goodness! The fans stirring up all of SInbad's fur are just proof positive that I am not big on house keeping :-)   Daily vacuuming just isn't my thing.

Yeah for rain in NW Arkansas! Send some here, please. It is bloody hot.

Lisa, I don't even bother to pose my questions to the person who answers the phone. I would just ask to speak with the PA or case nurse assigned to care for Riley. Sometimes they'll actually get you to the right person. It is amazing--and we wonder why there are so many medication errors?!?!  And don't get me started on discharge procedures--I've yet to see the home care instructions done well (or even adequately). OK, stepping down off my soap box, too.

    It's still hot.

Thinking good thought for you today Lisa. I know you must be on edge and not getting the answers to the questions you have must feel frustrating.

I've seen my share of idiots at my vet clinic too. Because Sassy was a little fear aggressive, I always sat in a far corner and put my leg across the front of her to signal not to approach. Even still, there'd sometimes be one idiot who was clueless. Speaking of - when I went to the 1st day of intermediate obedience class last week, there were 2 new people there with their dogs. The girl had a cute chocolate lab and the guy had a crazy, hyper golden. They walked up to each other and started chatting, oblivious to their dogs, and within 2 seconds the dogs were going at it and they both seemed shocked. Hmm.

I switched Shane from the martingale collar he came home with to a flat buckle collar last night and this morning's walk was awful. He'd never been a puller, so I didn't think it would matter. Is it possible the martingale was helping without me even realizing it?

The vet we took Tonka to most of his life had a huge waiting room, so we rarely had to deal with issues from too-close contact, even with the more rambunctious patients.  The vet we go to now has a tiny waiting area, and Ruby is nowhere near as calm as Tonka was, so there's potential for issues.  Luckily, DH always handles her there, and he's able to keep her relatively quiet near his side if anyone else waiting, too.

There's a park a mile from our house that has many rabbits living there -- some are probably wild, but it's common knowledge that many are pets who were dumped there.  I really hate people who just dump animals instead of finding a shelter or rescue group for them.  Even if there's a surrender fee, you should be willing to pay it since the organization is taking on the responsibility for an animal that you originally committed to.  Oh, don't get me started!!

Jackie, hearing about your hornworm pics on Facebook makes me glad I'm not a FB user!  Ick!  Wink

Paige, it was very nice of you to collect Cora's remains for your friend.  I hope it brings you all comfort to have her home with you again.  And I hope Macie is feeling better.  A ruptured anal gland = incredibly painful!

I'm meeting a friend after work to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.  We've been trying to connect for a few weeks, and luckily we made a date before it left the theatres.  I love Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, so I'm looking forward to it!

I forgot to say that the posts about Jackie's fine service as a wife, her deserving a promotion and a medal, and the glass ceiling issues cracked me up!  You guys are just too funny!

    hahahahahaha

OK no way I'll remember all I want to say..........

Bugsy loves going to the vet, sigh, even after all the stuff he's had done to him there. I didn't realize that he had that rep until the neighbor went to the vet with the baby golden and when they said Bugsy was his best friend the whole vet staff burst out laughing saying all dogs were Bugsy's best friend Geeked Anyway he's just joyous and wiggly and I do keep him as far in the corner as I can because even though he doesn't understand that not everyone is as happy as he is to be at the vet, I get it. Fortunately we've never had an serious issues such as you all describe. We did have some interesting moments when I tried a different vet that had loose cats.

Paige very kind of you to take care of Macie and pick up Cora's ashes ((((hugs))))

It is hot here but as Jackie said yesterday its expected here - we have been spoiled up to now - 97* currently and usually our high is at about 6pm Surprise Yes Kate it is bloody hot!

Tracy that movie is supposed to be excellent

I just went to lunch with someone and it was a total downer. I don't mind listening to people but sometimes I just want social time to be social time not working time

In an email I got, it said for bugs outside spray listerine around yourself, I just bought a cheap bottle of mouthwash from the dollar store put it in a spray bottle and use it around my feet and legs when I take Ava out to wee.  I also put a dryer sheet in each of my pockets of my shorts, also learned this from an email, so far it is working well, I hate that stuff they sell in the stores for bugs.

I used to have  a dog who really couldn't wait in the vet's office. When we took her, we'd have to go in and tell them we were there, then either they would come get us when they were ready, or they'd send us to a room right away.

Honestly, we know it's hot out. It's not that big a deal. The news acts like it's a fiasco. The current segment is about pregnant women in the heat. They have just informed us that if you're dizzy or feel like you're going to black out, you should definitely sit down. Ummm... really? Really,  were there not enough crimes today to report about? Did not enough actual news occur today that you actually have to make a segment about that? Do you need me to go make you some actual news? We know it's hot, and unless you're dumb, you know to take it easy outdoors, and drink a lot of water.

I think today might just be one of my proudest days in a long time. All week long, I've been volunteering at a camp to teach special needs kids to ride bikes (Lose the Training Wheels). A kid I work with has been going, but at a different session. I stopped by a little while ago, and I saw him riding a bike. This is the same kid who wouldn't even get near a helmet back in August, and we spent 10 months getting him to the point where he would wear it long enough to make attending this thing a possibility. There he was, helmet on, riding that bike.  I drove over there with a friend who is also volunteering, and we had to park a bit away because they blocked the lot to  have room for the kids to ride. So, as we were walking up, I wasn't sure if that was him out there riding. As soon as I had the slightest inkling it was him, I was so excited to see him doing it. His  mom was talking about a neighbor kid who said he'd ride bikes with him to the playground. For a kid who has probably never hung out with the other kids before, this is pretty big. We've also been working hard for the past  few months on safely crossing the street. Riding a bike plus being able to cross the street safely might just take him a long way.
