Manic Monday Chat

Cathy I am so excited for Shane and you and Mr. Cathy.  Where did you say those pics were????Confused

Callie hugs for Charlie...will he have to stay or are you just doing a consult???  Seems like I remember today was the day for surgery?

Had a wonderful weekend :)  got my garden pond and waterfall working.  Got my garden beds raked and ready for planting.  We grilled and ate on the patio every evening.  We have an awesome outdoor area.  Not fancy, just natural.  I have been encouraging Ron to get outside more.  We made the patio years ago for that purpose but tend to not use it as much unless company comes, which is rarely.  I asked him to teach me how to use the grill/smoker properly (cause he is great at it)  and I started making dinner on the grill to practice then I would set a table outside.  We have had dinner outside almost every night now for several weeks.  Last night he said;  " I have really enjoyed our time out on the patio.  I dont know why we havent done this more often"  LOL!

Hope everyone gets to feeling better...it's raining here.   We really needed it.

This is Shane exploring the backyard yesterday. He thought the floating alligator was very scary - lol! I know he's not pure Golden but I can't figure out what he's mixed with. I know the pictures not the best but any thoughts? He's got huge feet but his vet notes say he only weighs 56 lbs. I'd have never believed that until we gave him a bath. He 1/2 fur. His eyes are lined in black and he has a black nose. His face reminds me an awful lof of my Samoyed.

I thought Cathy said she was just fostering, but... ha! Welcome home, Shane. Big Smile Devil

Cathy, I saw this pic on FB but he's so gorgeous I had to say it again.  He's gorgeous! :)  No breed mix guesses.  I love dogs with eye make up. lol Rex has black outlined eyes and I think it's one of his best features.

I've been busy but not getting much accomplished.  I hate days like that.

Gin, I'm glad you guys are enjoying your al fresco dining lately. :)  See how sophisticated I am. lol

He technically is a foster but only because the rescue had the cardiologist appt scheduled and will pay for it. I could've pushed to adopt yesterday but figured I have nothing to lose by waiting. There's no way we'll give him back but IF they were to find something significant on the ultrasound, it's possible that he would become a permanent foster. That would mean he'd stay with us forever but HB would always cover medical costs.

Wow!  What a beauty!  Congrats Shane on your new home and new people!   Lucky boy!

Paige, sorry you are sick...I had that same darned bug Saturday evening, it hit Ryan Sunday morning, and DH Sunday afternoon.  Deb, your sore body is no fun.  It did remind me that there was ONE good thing about the morning gal calling at 4AM....I was sleeping wonky and work up with a massively stiff neck, which was cured by sleeping properly the little bit that was left of the night.

Sooooo pretty and nice today.  Fingers crossed that we finally get spring....

Shane is beautiful!  As for the black eyeliner, it reminds me of a Great Pyranees we knew from our old neighborhood.  She had the black rimmed eyes AND super long lashes -- so pretty.  She had lighter fur than Shane's, but it was very thick, and she had huge feet, too.  Maybe there's some Pyranees in him?  No matter what he is, he's a handsome boy, and very lucky to have found his way to your home!

Julie, about the homeless situation -- I've always thought it was a more of a problem here than where I lived in CT because the climate is so mild here.  It's never a good thing to be living on the streets, but there are less extremes in temperature here, so it's not as bitter cold in winter or horrible in summer.  There used to be an organized homeless camp in Portland somewhere (maybe it's still there).  I think it was called Camp Dignity or something like that.  It was a large group of tents where a big group of people lived "permanently" on a vacant lot.

As for Forest Park, I'd probably find a companion -- there have been some scary stories on the news about criminal activity there.  But, I'm also a super scaredy-cat, so that's just me!  It sounds like you'll experience true Oregon weather this week.  Probably no need for much sunscreen, but you'll find lots of things to enjoy despite grey skies!

I'm going to see David Sedaris tonight -- one of my favorite authors.  I've seen him before -- he's so funny.  Dinner first at a tasty Italian place, so it should be a great night!

That's exactly what I keep thinking. Maybe the vet will have an idea.

I took him for a walk and he is hands down the easiest dog I've ever walked. I worried about going to far and stressing him, so we kept it short and sweet. I'll be glad to get the chance to ask the cardiologist about a million questions Stick out tongue

Julie - I'm a scaredy cat like Tracy, so I'd err on the side of caution and only go if you can find a pal to go with you.

Cathy, I may have missed it in an earlier chat, but did you say how old Shane is?  I was just wondering if he had more growing to do, in order to fill into those feet!  Wink

I was told he's one and his vet notes say he was born in 2011 but not the month. I'd imagine he's still got some growing to do. I really don't want a Great Pyr size dog, so I'm hoping he's more Golden than anything else. They're generally 65-70 lbs for males and that's doable.

    Happy Birthday, Karen's brother!

Cathy, congrats on the new family member!  I can hardly wait to see a pic of him.

Julie, it takes awhile for your body to adjust to a 3 hr. time difference. I remember going to Orland years ago and waking up thinking it was about 9 a.m. and heading down to the hotel restaurant for breakfast.  It was noon and they were serving lunch. Tongue Tied After that, we requested a wake up call in the morning so we wouldn't wind up sleeping every day until it was too late to actually go anywhere.

I think I can now officially pack the electric blankie away for a few months.

Cathy, my first thought was that he looks very much Great Pyr. Even at a year, one would think a Pyr would be heavier than 56 lbs. Maybe he's a little bit GR, a little Samoyed, and a little Great Pyr. The Samoyed part would account for the light weight, that bushy tail, and the lack of desire to jump into your pool.

No matter what, though, I hope his cardiologist visit goes well.
