    Thursday talking

One more day until I can reclaim my car!!!!  Supposed to be finished tomorrow after the towed vehicle came loose and crunched it pretty good......being without a vehicle this long has 'bout driven me that last few inches to insanity!  DH has a company vehicle this week, but, of course, I can't drive it, so I've been going nuts and been a captive.  And, the weather has not been terribly pleasant this week, so not real condusive to doing yard work.

I am going to get DS to help me with getting the rest of the tater patch ready this morning since he's actually awake and moving.  I've got some in already and have just been doing enough ground at a time to accomodate what's ready to go in.  Rather a backwards way to do things.  But, there is one of me and the old body is getting, well....OLD.

Wishing everyone a good day today!

We're lucky we have two vehicles, so it's usually not terribly inconvenient if we need to share one - unless I'm without a car over the weekend.  That can drive me a bit nuts if I want to go somewhere (walking to places to do errands isn't possible where I live).

Speaking of cars, I'm somewhat considering having my car detailed.  My car is old, probably will only have it another couple of years, but it's embarrassingly gross inside.  I've never cleaned it lol, maybe a couple of times I've vacuumed.  It might be nice to have a clean interior again (and re-institute a no eating policy in the car).  But, it's expensive so I'm not sure my beat up car is per say worth it.  If I could find a place that had decent do it yourself vacuums maybe I'd do it myself (vacuuming my car at home isn't possible). But, the last couple of places I plunked my quarters into couldn't vacuum up much at all.

Anyone watch Duck Dynasty on A&E ??  It's freaking hysterical.

Everything seemed to happen at once to us Sharon.  DS blew the engine in his truck, so has been using our car for work on weekends, which means that we have no transportation ALLLLL flipping weekend, unless DH can bring a station vehicle home.  That kind of stinks.  And then of course, knowing him, he was following the tow truck closer than he should have been and crunched MY car.  Or the other car did, but the end result is that I've been as stranded as someone shipwrecked on an island and getting VERY antsy.  At least the sun is shining for now.  Rain supposed to be coming in later on.  We need more, but gosh, days without sunshine are hard to take.

Deb?  When is Duck Dynasty on?  I don't watch TV a lot......

Duck Dynasty, on Wednesdays at 10:00p on A&E. I've seen the ads for it, not the show.

Nothing says important like the emergency phone call looking for an egg cooker we ordered.  Let me see if I can just pull that out of my butt. No pun intended.

    Thanks Tina.

If you successfully retrieve that egg cooker?  Could you retrieve a cool million for me?  I'd really like to own a house......

I haven't watched that show Deb.  The commercials were too scary. lol

This is my Friday, sort of.  We may open for a few hours tomorrow but since the entire frickin city will shut down for Fiesta, there's little point in us trying to work.

I had a great talk with my cousin last night.  They thought she was going to need emergency surgery a few days ago but after another CAT scan, they've decided to wait.  She's got so many health issues that the surgery was going to be pretty high risk.  We laughed and talked about some of our crazy youthful escapades.  I'm driving up to see her on Saturday.

    What's an egg cooker ?  A pan ??

    What's Fiesta ?

I'm feeling a little dumb today.

Glenda, that stinks! Hope you get your wheels back soon!

Sharon, a lot of places that offer car washes also include an interior vacuum. Sounds like you don't need a full-on "detailing" (where they clean every tiniest nook and cranny, put protective sealant on things, etc.). Alternatively, it might be just as cost-effective to shop around for a heavy duty shop vac and clean it out yourself at home. Then, I recommend seat covers and heavy duty floor mats (the rubber ones with little hexagons are great for trapping dirt). That way, if you're not great about keeping the car clean, you can periodically just take out the mats/covers, shake them off, and get rid of MOST of the dirt.

I've been finally starting to get into wedding-planning mode... it's kind of overwhelming! That's been consuming my non-working time.

Related question for you guys: who generally pays for a "bridal shower" and "bachelorette party"? I've been asked to plan one for a friend who is getting married. Her sister and I are the only bridesmaids, and it's sort of a destination wedding, so we can't host anything at someone's house. Is it awful to ask bridal shower guests to pay their own way (like if we have it over afternoon tea at a restaurant)? What is traditional?

    YEAH - what she said!!

Sharon -- look around for an individual who does detailing rather than taking it to one of the assembly line war places.  The independant guys need the work and are probably cheaper and likely will come to you.

"traditional" for a shower is inviting people to your house, someone makes a cake and h'or deuves, you play stupid party games and everyone brings a present.  Generally the shower is hosted/paid for by the brides maid/matron of honor and/or bridesmaids.

Bachelorette Party?  never had one -- and David didn't have a bachelor party either.  I've seen too many that are just invitations to get into trouble and start a big fight the night before the wedding, but that's me.

If you have it at a restaurant then you're asking everyone to pay for their own food (which will diminish whatever they can afford to give the bride).

The stupid food vendor issue has reared its ugly head again with someone making completely false claims in order support their own position and create division and strife in the group.  In the meantime I'm helping to plan a Benefit day for the Chief Maloney fund. I'm working with smart cooperative people from my training organization.  Which one is more deserving an endeavour, do you think?  *sigh*  Goodnight all...

That's the type of nonsense that makes me want to tell everyone involved they can go screw themselves, cause I'm done. I actually was director of a race for a local organization for its first two years along with a friend. The first year was a ton of work, since we really had no clue what we were doing. But, since we didn't know what we were doing, and didn't have adequate help, we handled everything on our own, and it was done right.  The heads of the organization realized we really needed help, and had someone help us the second year. She was such a horrible, rude, petty person to work with, that I refused to do it again. They put her in charge of recruiting and organizing volunteers. It took them a few more complaints and refusals of other volunteers to return to give her a different job. It was 2.5 years before I volunteered with the group again, for a completely different activity, after much desperate pleading.

I hope the thing for Chief Maloney is drama free!

Funny, this is something of a similar circumstance.  The person who has been doing this for years pretty much on her own took on a committee for help and they ran her out with false accusations about her and other people on the committee.  They asked me to step up and I only agreed because I thought we could work together.  But it's the same mess again, but with me this time.  I really don't have the patience to keep tolerating this.

Cita - my car is gross and could benefit from the nooks and crannies.  I have a bad habit of eating in the car...Ick!  Not to mention all the mud, dust and dog hair that has accumulated....

Callie - That's a great idea.  Come to think of it, I think there's a house on my road that I saw a sign offering detailing.  I'll see if their sign is still out and I'll give them a jingle.  I could be imagining it though, it was last summer I believe I saw the sign.  (ok now I just started singing Ace of Base "I saw the sign" song...)

    Yes.

Where are they getting married ?  If it's at a hotel or something like that, maybe they would let you use their grounds to host a little tea and cookie type thing if that's all the bridesmaids can afford.  I would also run it past the MOTB as she may want to contribute if she wants something a little fancier for the shower.  But I don't believe that asking the guests to pay their own way would ever be appropriate.

    What's an egg cooker ?  A pan ??

Not quite. It is a pan that is divided up and designed to allow restaurants to cook the real egg portions used on breakfast sandwiches on a large scale as opposed to doing it one or two at a time, or using pre-cooked egg portions that were basically thawed and nuked.

In my mind, I originally thought an egg cooker was like the one my mom had, where you could cook hardboiled eggs six or eight at a time. It had a sort of needle point to put a hole in the shell and then spots where you stood the eggs up; put water in the bottom and plug 'er in.  Anyway, I couldn't figure out why our restaurants were going to start selling hardboiled eggs. Ick!
