Wicked Wednesday Chat

It's about time for some more rain but we don't have much in the forecast.  We're back in stage 1 drought. :(

I've never been to Oregon but have a friend who moved there a long time ago.  They love it. :)  Hope you get to go, Julie.

Busy here at work so I should really get back to getting some of these piles on my desk whittled down.

Ok, have just spent the last 45 minutes with a yardstick, graph paper and sharp pencil.  The verdict is, there is absolutely NO other way to arrange my living room with blocking the big arch to the diningroom and I really would rather not do that since the kitchen is narrow and doesn't have room for a lot of traffic going through to the DR.  Crud.  I've lived with the furniture this way for almost 2 years, and am getting a bit weary of it.  Sigh.

Julie, fingers crossed for the final approval!

I'm definitely going to do it again.

a good massage can be money well spent.  Especially if it's someone you gel well with.  It can really have a positive impact on your health & everything else.

Boss is taking us out for lunch (Administrative Prof. Day) -- I was SO proud of him -- I just heard him taking a friend to task on the phone because he wasn't taking HIS staff out.  It is nice to be thanked.

Jackie -- I finally figured it out -- whittling down?  Trust me -- it grows from underneath during the night when we're asleep!!

We're cloudy today and they say it'll rain later and again tomorrow but be sunny and in the 80s after that. A little rain mixed in with the nicer weather is a wonderful thing and my plants are loving it.

Thanks or all the info on the heart murmur. I actually thought it wouldn't be a big deal but it sounds like a grade 3 could be a bit serious. Regardless, if the other adopter backs out, we'll still consider it. I wouldn't hesitate but DH may not be up for the idea of another heartbreak so soon. He has a super soft heart though, so knowing that we could help Shane have a good life would probably make it an easy decision.

Tina - I'm sorry about your tooth replacement but glad you enjoyed your massage. I've only had one and found that I wasn't comfortable laying naked on a table. The woman was super nice but I just felt tense and wanting it to be over. Strange, huh? If DH wanted to give me one, that'd be a whole different story though. Big Smile

Every morning I get here with plans to tackle a bunch of projects I hate and every day I leave without doing them. Hmm

No, Cathy, not strange at all. It's why I avoided trying one out all these years. I was stripped down to panties, but covered by a sheet and light blanket unless she was working on an area. So she did my back first, then covered that and did each leg individually, and then only one was partially uncovered at a time and not past mid-thigh. When she had me roll onto my back for the face, neck, shoulders, and scalp, I was covered from the breasts down. I went in thinking I'd only be able to tolerate it and came out with a whole different mindset. She was very professional, put me at ease, and although I generally am funny about strangers touching me, I wasn't creeped out at all.

Yes, my experience was the same but I still felt tense. I also didn't like the feeling of my face in that donut hole. Like I said, I'm just strange. I actually went in thinking I'd love it, so I was really bummed. I may give it a try again one of these days. I have had a few facials and absolutely loved them though.

Cathy, I've never had a professional massage for the same reasons.  I'm glad I'm not the only odd one. :)

After most of my surgeries, PT included deep tissue massage, and I absolutely LOVED it, but I was only neked from the waist up.  And, I found that keyhole place for my face REALLY annoying and uncomfortable.

Mike gave the absolute BEST massages....sounds awful to admit that I miss those massages when there is so much else to miss, but, yeah, I do.

Tina, at least your new tooth broke while you were still at the dentist's office and not after you got home!  I'm glad you liked the massage.

I used to get a massage once a month.  Having a job where you sit hunched over a computer all day is bad enough, but if you're also someone who is often tense and holds stress in your neck and shoulders, then regular massages are life-savers.  I only get them a couple times a year now, but if I won the lottery, I'd have one a week.  Professional therapists have a technique with how they hold the sheets and whatnot, so there's no embarrassment.  I felt awkward at my first massage, but once I realized how great my back and neck felt afterwards, I threw all concerns out the window!

Cathy, I understand worrying about a condition that could mean you'd be facing difficult decisions too soon with a new dog.  I hope the right situation works out soon for you and your husband, whether it be Shane or another special pup!

Julie, Callie's right about Dundee wineries, along with dozens of other towns throughout the valley close to Portland.  You'll have lots of wine tasting opportunities.  Or, if beer is your preferred beverage, microbreweries are everywhere, too.  I hope you get approval to make the trip.  If you didn't see my late night post on yesterday's chat, PM me if I can help track down any info for you.

I'm in awe of all you dedicated runners.  I can't imagine training for a marathon - I'm far too lazy.  It's all I can do to walk on the treadmill and use some weight machines at the gym about 3 times a week!

David had a friend online who lived in Portland (remember this was the bad old early days of the internet -- like 17 years ago) and she'd sent him a jar of hazelnut butter that had "Mfg in Dundee, OR" on it -- and that's actually what birthed the whole "visit all the Dundees" thing which was fun.  We visited i-friends all over the place.  It was fun, later, having wine from, I think, two different Dundee's at our wedding LOL

It's one of the fun things of the internet -- you mention in a 'chat' a place you'll go to a meeting and suddenly have a bunch of folks telling you "don't miss" things -- and yet, unlike family, no one is gonna give a fig if you don't listen to them LOL.

Can we move the Tiki Bar up to today, simply by popular demand??

Every day should be a Tiki Bar day.

red sangria and ice will keep ME out of trouble.  (David also notices it keeps me from chattering quite so much in his ear!!!  He's just usually too nice to tell me I'm talking way too much.  Pour a drink in me and I get nice and quiet.  Hard to imagine, tho, huh??)

That's funny - it's the opposite for a lot of people I know, especially my husband.  He's not a very talkative person by nature, but the more he drinks, the "chattier" he gets.  Sometimes, he starts telling old stories of his years in the service or working on his sister's farm (stories I've heard way too many times)!  Tongue Tied
