    Thanks guys
    Cal I pm you.
Angela Any advice you have would help, I kind of think it's something else the way he went down not so much hard as just the wrong way, I agree it can no longer be a grade one. but I am going to call my regular vet this morning and see.

Thanks for all the get well wishes it sure is nice having this support group at my finger tips.
He was pretty bad this morning I put him into the bigger crate to sleep last night so he would have more room to stretch, he went out to do his business fine, but I carried him in and out and when he finished peeing it went out again. I gave him 1/4 of rimadyl and 1/4 pepcid and 20 drops of milk thistle, at 6am he started to come out  of the crate more, he is being a good boy I found through serendipity, that if I use my NO (there is danger ) he will stop on the dime from running to the door, jumping onto the couch. I don't want to use it a lot so the minute I think he is doing better I will not.
My vet said that it's normal after a trauma to go in and out, that after the inflamation goes down it should sit in. Call her if it gets worse instead of better and if I need more rimadyl, which I will stop the minute it's humane.
Thank you my peeps your the best!

I think sometimes the rimadyl works too well.  We had to half dose Scout to keep him from running around like a madman when he was sick last year. I think if they are in a little pain, it is sometimes easier to manage and keep them quiet. I know you don't want him to be in pain(nobody wants that for thier pet), but it may help him in the long run. I hope he feels better soon and can get of the rimadyl! Keeping you in my prayers!

Hope little one feels better soon.  April also has grade I luxating patella so far so good with it.

Poor little Brando! Hope he gets better and he doesn't get hurt that bad ever again.
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah Em I totally agree, the 1/4 is 1/2 the dosage.

What an awful time for you and little Brando.

From my experience here, after a knee cap goes out to that level a few times, it will get to the point where it is no longer so painful when it does go out, because the ligaments that hold the patella in place are stretched out and then the knee cap starts floating around, but with less pain.  At that point, you'll see him "skip" steps with that leg, but not scream about it.  When Misty's right knee went out the first time, it was AWFUL, as same as you described happened to Brando.  Then, the next time, it was a little awful, then she'd just skip steps.  The first time her left knee went out, it was REALLY AWUFL, with about 15 minutes of screaming with the left leg held out straight.  Since we had been through it with the right knee, and had been told by the doctor the left knee would be going out soon, we knew how to help her.

Be careful with the Rimadyl, but you already know that.  A good alternative is Metacam.

    How old is Brando?

I'm sorry to say it sounds like he may be headed for surgery for this.  :(  That's the bad news.  The good news is, IT WORKS!!!  Misty had both knees done at once, at age 11 months, and then a little more work done at around 1 1/4 years.  Her last surgery was in February and she's doing really well now.  You must be careful in picking who does the surgery.

You can PM me about all this if you want some support.
