GabbyG needs some good vibes

Good thoughts for Gabby,Hoping it passes or yakks up smoothly and soon. Like so many here I can feel your worry and stress,We've had similar

    "adventures" here.

Oh, no --- Sending lots of good vibes to GabbyG (and some calming ones for you!).  I hope they find that it's just some small pieces that can pass on their own with no surgery required.  I had a coworker whose dog ate nearly an entire leather sandal -- all but the buckle.  She passed some small pieces but had to have surgery for larger chunks.  Hopefully Gabby wanted to savor her "leather snack" and chewed fully and slowly rather than gulped it down!

Remember Billy and the quarter last year *sigh* --  BEEN THERE.  (more than once).

Remember, Jackie - I have a sensational colorist in Wally, and you're always welcome!!  *laughing*  I don't just get "more" grey hair any more -- it's that the grey gets LIGHTER I think rorfl ...

seriously -- you know the signs?  depending on how far along the intestinal tract it gets before it obstructs you may see NO poop ... or you may see vomiting first if it obstructs closer to the stomach itself.

Billy's quarter wasn't even a "total" obstruction -- it musta been in there tilted because he could get babyfood thinned to water, and actual water thru NO problem, just not "food".  So he was hungry but not in huge distress (he felt like crap but ....)

Back when we had Polly, she was totally food phobic.  She'd been SO starved before we got her that ANYTHING she got in her mouth was a panic moment.   I gave her a bully stick and it was getting kinda short.  I bent over to "trade" her and she panicked and swallowed about 6" of one.  *sigh*  And she was the one who couldn't walk, and digestion took SO long in her.

But it DID pass (took four days but it DID completely pass) and she never got sick at all.  I thot I'd worry myself sick on that one.

Good thots and prayers for sure.

Gabby -- next time just talk ... don't eat it.

Oh Gabby!  Really leashes can't taste THAT good do they??  Here's hoping for some yakking or pooping, Jackie.

Oh my! Lots of vibes headed your way!!

She's acting perfectly fine so far  but hasn't pooped or yakked.  Little stinker. lol  Callie, I'm familiar with what to watch for re possible blockage and will be watching her closely.  She's never allowed any soft toys (unless closely supervised) or anything she can chew up and swallow that isn't food.  She is a gulper but hopefully the loop of the leash was too big, even for her.   Just recently DH was playing tug and he swore he never let her have the toy even for a moment but the next day she threw up a piece she had managed to chew off.  Oy.

Jackie -- I know you are, but to be honest, this is the type of thread so OFTEN searched for that I figgered it would be smart to have something saying what to watch for anyway.

*grin* when you love dogs like we all do, you don't get to the stage about worrying about how many more grey hairs you're getting without having cleaned up tons of yak, poop, etc. and having worried yourself nearly sick about what they swallered to cause it LOL  Most of the stories start "I remember when _____ swallowed a ____________________."

(Callie walks away mumbling "Of ALL the weird stuff  my dogs have swallowed the quarter had to be THE easiest to figure out on an x-ray ! - but worry?  oh yah";)

Yep, I can't pretend I'm not worried even though I'm trying to tell myself I'm not. lol  The vet and I were talking about that list that's printed in some magazine every year about the weird things dogs swallow.  I'm glad Gabby is the only dog I have who will eat most anything.  I don't think I could handle having more than one like her. lol

Good point about the info on what to watch for when a blockage is a possibility, Callie.

The pug is a thief bigtime but she doesn't swallow.  (Well, shoot, Billy only ate ONE thing that was inappropriate and it was that danged quarter).

But Jackie you're right -- that comes under the "There Oughta be a Law" files -- there oughta be a law that you can't have more than one difficult dog at a time.  *grin*  But ... that one will never make the books.  Tink made our first Christmas with her the "Christmas of the Sparkle Poop" (black foil wrapped Hershey's kisses?  I worried over chocolate AND foil obstruction/tearing/cuttng)

But in my case that was a case of taking the newspaper and hitting MYSELF **HARD** cos that was all MY stupidity.

I gave myself a few good whacks this morning because this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't forgotten to take her leash off when I put her in her crate.  A forum friend just texted me about a dog she knew who ate an entire leash and pooped it out in one piece.  Oh my!

Gabby, no leash-eating, sweet girl. You're giving your mama a heart attack!

I do hope there's some poopin' going on soon! (((hugs)))

The vet and I were talking about that list that's printed in some magazine every year about the weird things dogs swallow.

Some friends of mine had a black lab years ago who, as a young dog, ate EVERYTHING, whether it was edible or not.  Walking him was like walking through a mine field -- you had to have your eyes riveted to the ground ahead of his nose (yes, he needed some proper leash walk training, but that's another story!).

He ate rocks, paper, critter poop, bottle tops, basically anything he could Hoover into his mouth.  But the weirdest thing was the night my friend and I were sitting in their TV room, and we heard a noise coming from the fireplace.  We thought a squirrel had gotten inside, but we saw nothing (no fire was burning at the time).  The chimney was for 2 fireplaces -- another one was directly on the other side in the formal living room.  We went on that side to investigate, and there was Casper sitting in the fireplace, munching on the charcoal wood bits that were laying in the grate.  They were completely cold, so no burn injuries, thankfully.  Needless to say, he had several trips to the vet over the course of his long puppyhood!

Jackie I am late on this but wanted to send Gabby girl our smooth passage vibes. ((hugs))

Tracy, the vet said that usually a Lab wins the weirdest thing eaten contest. lol  Gabby ate some cold charcoal briquets that were in a metal bucket on the porch.  They had cooled and probably had some good meat drippings on them. Our house is more child proofed than most homes with toddlers but at that time I was still naive enough to think that she wouldn't eat charcoal.  It's all edible to some dogs. lol  Casper sounds like he and Gabby would have been great friends and they could share a kennel at the vet clinic and tell stories about the neat stuff they'd found and eaten.

I'm late to comment here, too, but she's been on my mind.  Hope things pass swiftly, smoothly, and completely!
