Monday Mindless Chatter

Good thoughts for all those dealing with the loss of a loved one at this time. My mom passed away in November and I remember Christmas being a very dark time.

I'll second that.  My dad died just a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving and my mom died a couple of weeks before Christmas ... both a long time ago, but it takes awhile before you can enjoy those holidays again.

It's gorgeous out today - no wind but very chilly - and I can't believe the number of people I've seen running around in shorts, tanks and flip flops. There was a guy a couple of streets over doing yard work in just a pair of shorts.  Where in hell-o did these people live before moving here that makes them think low to mid 50s is "no shirt, no shoes" weather?  Geez.  I had two layers plus a coat on and had the car heater running.

I had to go to Target this a.m. and since I hadn't had coffee yet, I decided to go to the in-store Starbucks and try a pumpkin spice latte.  It wasn't bad, but I don't know what all the hullabaloo is about. I don't think I'll be ordering them on a regular basis. It was almost too sweet even without addding anything else to it.

    In a word, Michigan.

hahahaha - when we moved here we were like that. I still remember DH & I in a Home Depot in shorts and tee shirts when the lady in front of us had a down parka on Big Smile

We have so many military people here and of course they come from all corners of the country.  Natives are cold when it gets below 60 but we see the "others" out and about in their shorts and flip flops, who apparently think 45F is pleasant. lol   It's supposed to get in the upper 20's tomorrow night and panic has hit many who haven't had their heaters checked yet.  Our phone has been ringing off the wall today.   I feel like a crisis counselor sometimes trying to convince them they will survive. lol  I wish they had realized that after summer comes fall and then comes winter and colder temps.  It's not like it doesn't happen every year.

Coworker is having a routine colonoscopy tomorrow.  He's been moaning and groaning all day about not being able to eat and the repeated trips to the bathroom.  I'm secretly enjoying his misery.

lol Tina, isn't that the truth. I laughed at Jackie when she bought a heavy winter coat while we were at the Rodeo that one Feb. I don't even think I had a jacket on!

Admit it, you were cold too but didn't want to have to pack a jacket for your flight back.  lol  It went from warm and wonderful to cold and windy in a few minutes which is pretty common around here.  I've never worn that coat again since I bought it.  I should donate it to battered women's shelter.

Many many years ago when I was in the 6th grade, I lost my Grandfather, my Uncle and my cousin who was only l9 on Christmas Day. They were coal gassed by a malfunctioning furnace, we had just sat down for Christmas dinner when they came to tell my Mother it was her Dad and Brother and her Brother's daughter who had died.  I have never forgotten it and I'm I'll soon be 80 I think of it every year at this time.  I have never forgotten the funeral either, something a kid should never see but I wanted to go.

I have come to MC *just* to share with my favorite online friends: I have caught ringworm from one of the little people. Oh, the joys of teaching.

You can start scratching at itches you didn't know you had in 3...2...1...

I do that anyway, we still have the stray flea floating around.

I know nothing of ringworm... but it doesn't sound fun.  Sorry you have to deal with it.  What's the treatment?

Eeek, Megan, not fun. Hope you don't give it to the dogs or DH.

Lisa, I am so sorry for the loss of your uncle. My condolences to your aunt and your family.

Katy and Vivian, hugs to both of you.

Good thoughts for Gracie's lump check tomorrow and for Bugsy to go back to his normal self.

Do you all do maintenance contracts ? I love mine. My AC company calls me to remind me to make an appointment so that the systems are checked in October and in March. I love my AC people; they keep me cozy.

Not true, not true; 50 is cooooold regarless of the season. It has not gone up to that today (rain and cold front) and we are all freeeezing.

David laughs at the Florida "uniform" -- you know they're a native WHEN:  when it's 70 and the locals are all wearing scarves and long sleeved sweaters, or even ski parkas  and **thong sandles** -- then, if it's still "cold" the next day they'll suddenly trade their flip flops for Ugg boots.

We see it a lot at Give Kids the World when everyone is from all over.  But those who don't live here even think out winter temps are "nice" (they'll wear shorts when it's 45 JUST because they're in Florida LOL) but the locals are still wearing  their ski jackets and scarves and ... thong sandles.   It makes me laugh.

But at the same time -- they WILL close the schools here when it hits about 45 simply because the local kids don't have warm enough coats to stand at a bus stop when it's that cold.  Doesn't have to snow nor even rain -- they'll close schools if it gets below 45 or 40 in the rural areas in particular.

I agree! We've got a freeze warning for tonight and I'm so glad I can get my fireplace going with a remote control instead of running outside and crawling under a tarp to drag logs in two at a time. Big Smile They made the announcement on the news awhile ago that people should make sure their pets have shelter and that always makes me feel sad because it reminds me that there are people out there who won't let their dogs inside regardless of the weather.

After a winter of below zero or around zero temps, 50 is definitely warm!

We got a giant box from amazon today and DH keeps putting Sam's stuffy in there, and it's quite entertaining to witness the thought pattern going on while Sammy tries to get his duck :)

Do ya'll remember the socks I was knitting myself over the summer?  I stopped for a bit while I finished a crochet project, and then with munchkin I wasn't feeling too great for a while, so they've been on hold.  I should be able to finish them up tonight!
