Tempermant testing

Im a regular on another dog forum, however i didnt feel comfortable asking this question over there, hence im here lol

Iv owned my dog for a few years (got him as an adult). Unfortunatly, he has some issues with other animals.

My family has been witness to some of these incidents. The problem is that i was considering moving in to live with my mum again. She is frightened for herself and her family (kiddies) because she thinks that my dog might attack them.

Its very frustrating for me, because i cant seem to make them understand that animal\dog aggression does not translate to human aggression.

I had a thought though, perhaps there is some kind of tempermant testing my dog can have done, which will help me prove my case that he is not dangerous ??

I wont have him pts, first reason because his mine and i love him, and furthermore, i dont think his behaviour is that unusual. I admit that its bad, but i think a large proportion of dogs have these problems and he dosnt deserve to be pts.

Any thoughts on the temperment testing, or any other ideas ? thankyou

Hi and welcome to the forum.

My personal feeling is no matter what you do to prove to your family your baby is not human agressive by temperament testing.

Have you tried NILIF. Nothing in life is free with your baby?

he is obedient. Mum used to like him, largly because of his gentle nature, and his obedience.

Funny how now his a man eater all of a sudden.

edit: with the training issue, this dog gives me the distinct feeling that he wont change no matter what i do. His behaviour with dogs/animals appears to me to be more genetic disposition than anything else.

Earl, I am guessing he is a bully breed and that is why all of a sudden "Man eater" hysteria.
You can also go to AKC.org and pull up the breed's information to show your family the boy is just a huge baby.

Edit to add: His behavior can be changed with a lot of work on your part. You can make them non dog aggressive again it is up to you to change that unwanted behavior and work with him daily.

Because we have that mass hysteria, preconceived notion, bad wrap in the US ourselves. I have a love for the breed and own a couple myself. Big, BIG babies! I also have a Pit/Sharpei mix who will lick the flavor out of your skin.

Because they are so powerful and most people use them for the wrong things, they can get out of control and cause major damage. But if treated right, trained right, they are the biggest, sweetest, most loyal companions one could ever have in their lives.

Give mum time to adjust and see what a wonderful boy he is.

BTW, The price to pay here is to post a picture of your cutie pie.... I love pic's...lol

that first part of your post implies that you know im not american, can i ask how ?? lol i didnt realise id said anything to obviously un-american ?? haha

sharpy x pitties are beautiful. i love bullmastiffs too, particularly the massive males.

Dog in question is on the right, on the left is my 15 week old [bull arab] x [pitbull x greyhound]

To answer your question... You said MUM which is a typical British word or mostly used a broad. lol I know the lingo well. Hee hee.

i cant see all too well this monitor is tremendously dark.

there all gourgous from what i can see congratulations.

beau looks like an amstaff. we have some american bulldogs in australia (is that the same thing) but they dont look like that. They look kinda like reall big overcooked boxers, except a different colour, usually predominatly white.

Bonnie is an American Bulldog, Blue Blood is what they call her markings and color of coat.

Beau is the apple barrel on toothpicks. The Sharpei/Pit mix

Zanie is supposed to be a Red Nosed Pitbul, however, I think he is more of an Amstaff myself.

All are sweet natured and think they are lap dogs.

Dylan in my aviater is a Southern Black Mouth Cur, who is more aggressive than these guys are. He is a hound. A crazy one at that. lol
