Welcome to the forum! Now you can correct me if im wrong but I have heard that with an animal agressive pit bull you can only control the behaviour but you will never actually cure it. Its just what ive heard, ive owned pitties in the past and never had the problem. My fathers pit was always wary of other animals but once introduced she was great with them. The only thing she hurt was a baby squirell I had rescued, I cried for days over that one but hey, what dog wont kill a squirell if it gets too close?
Get a good book on pit bulls and show it to your family. I believe there is a web site (im not sure if it#%92s the Diane Jessup#%92s? Website) that has some testimonials from people who bred/breed pitties to be fighting dogs. And the clearest thing said is that even when breeding for fights a Human Aggressive Pit Bull is not to be tolerated. That while pit bulls can and will be animal aggressive that they (for the most part) will not be human aggressive. Pit Fighters have continually tried to breed human aggression out of their dogs because if you have a fighting dog and need to separate them you cannot tolerate a dog that will challenge and attack you.
Now Im not saying that I am ok with fighting because that is wrong, but if even the pit fighters can see that human aggression is a no-no and they ADMIT that most pit bulls are not human aggressive, why cant the public see that also?
Im going to try and find the website so I can post it, or if any other member knows it please post it. I think this will be your best bet with your mother. I must warn you though, some of the pics are pretty bad. Good luck with your puppy and convincing your mom!
