I think I have the only dog... where I can leave my entire meal and drink alone unattended in a room and Gracie will not touch it.
Neither does she touch the 40lb bag of dog food she's left with every day
That's Sofia, too. I can leave a hot steak on a TV tray and go downstairs, and she won't touch it. Unfortunately Ole the Norwegian Elkhound has no such manners, he'll snork down anything that even resembles food, and plenty of things that don't.
I think Ole does have something fairly unique: I call it Ginsu Mouth. So far he has:
1. Chewed up and swallowed a disposable razorblade with NO cuts in his mouth or elsewhere. Yes, he went to the vet and we got the pieces of razorblade out of him.
2. He could smell the herring in the can of kippers I was donating to the food drive a few years ago. I went into the Post Office, got my mail and came back to a car that was now a FISHMOBILE and a smell that truly knocked me off my feet. Herring oil EVERYWHERE and in the dead of winter with no way to clean it out. (-20 is not conducive to using water-based cleaning products.)
3. Later during breakup I left him in the car while i went into OfficeMax for maybe 15 minutes. It was too warm for my jacket (but not too warm for the dogs, this IS Alaska) so I left it balled up on the floorboards. He thought there were cookies in my coat pocket (and there were) but he bit the wrong pocket and put four perfect punctures in my Citronella spray (dog deterrent spray). When I got back I sat down and said, "What is that SMELL?" Ole was on the back seat all bug-eyed trying to look innocent. My jacket was dripping with citronella and the fish smell was GONE! Most of the spray was in my jacket, he didn't get it in the face but I imagine the PSSSSSSSSSSSSSST scared the crap out of him! Nothing like having a self-training dog, eh?
