Okay... the yard doesnt look nearly as bad as it did yesterday when they were done, it was all fresh and muddy and dark.  I was horrified.  Now that its dried out and more like dirt its not as hard on the eyes... but still it used to be green grass!

I will call for updates on them.  Hopefully they let me keep info on them.

DH just called and asked if I brought them.  I said yes, and he said hes thinking we should have kept them, lol.  He said to call back and see if we can keep them after they get vet care.  I told him I really doubt they would let us do that.  Cute that he got attached too![:)]

Oh and the torn up yard goes all the way across to the other side...(out to the left of the pics) to the other tree where the squirrels came from.  Thats where they grabbed broken limbs from the top and carried them away... I think they fell out of the tractor on the way to the truck... makes me wonder if more got carried off.

It does look like they made a big mess!  I think you did the right thing for those squirrels.  I probably would  have wanted to keep them too. LOL  But now they get to live a normal life.  Good for you!

I so would have wanted to raise the baby squirrrels too, but I think you did the right thing for them. Thank gosh your Mom found the babies! I thought the suggestion of going and visiting them later was great! I'm so sorry about the utter destruction of your big tree and the yard. I would have been steamed.

I called and the lady wasnt very helpful.  Just said they were coming to pick them up at 3.  I told her I wished I could have kept them... she said they will be better off at the center where they have a set-up for little babies like that and can give them a better chance.  I told her thats why I brought them in but was then kind of wishing I hadnt, lol.  She did say that its illegal to keep wildlife, which I knew... but whatever.

Sounds like I wont be able to get any further info on them[:(].  Good luck little babies!

I'm just now seeing this story.  The little babies were so cute - I'm so glad you found someplace that can help them, even though I'd be sad to see them leave, too.  Of course, my mind went right to the question, "What happened to the Mom?  Did she die, or is she just frantic over the loss of her home and family?"

When we lived in CT, we had a shed in the backyard where we stored the lawn mower & yard stuff.  We didn't go in there all winter, then in early spring DH opened it to get something.  High up on a shelf he saw this huge nest of what looked like dryer lint.  He knew it was a critter's home, so he gently looked inside to see a baby squirrel that looked exactly like your photo - all curled up in the fuzzy warm stuff.  I was outside the shed and could hear the mother squirrel making hysterical noises when she knew DH was in the shed.  We left if alone and avoided yard work for weeks until we knew they had moved on.  They had to have a cozy place to live all winter - it was ;perfect for them.  It even had a small window!

You know... it came from way at the top of an oak tree... not the pine tree in the pictures.  We found them about 2 hours after the people left.  I dont think the momma was around.  Our first thought was that too... but what... leave them out there... when two had already died?  The two that were dead had no wounds... just cold and hard.  I think they had just died from lack of warmth and food.  I thought the two we found were going to die.  I was franticly looking for info and then thought of you guys[:)].

I sure hope the momma is alive.  That a huge reason I was seriously regretting bringing them to the rescue.  If we could have raied them at least they could hav elived in the area where she was... I dunno if they recognize their young tho.

    Amy,

    You're a gem....
There should be more people in the world like you...
    You're awesome...

That's great you were so concerned about the poor little things! [:)] I would also think that the $40 would definitley discourage some people from taking the wildlife in there...I'd guess it would be a lot easier to just ignore them or something than to pay that.[:-]

Anyway, a few years ago I rescued a baby squirell as well, but it was a lot older.....I don't know how much, but it had fur and it's eyes were opened, about the size of a kitten a few weeks old, I think. Anyway, we found it out in the woods behind our church, and we think the momma must have abandoned it. We took it home, and I took care of it for a few days, and bought milk replacer especially for the small animals, kept it in a warm box, etc. But, sadly, the reason that the mom abandoned it, I think, was because the poor thing was all full of maggots! I don't know how, or why, but it had them all over and we gave it a little bath and everything, but those nasty things were even inside of it, in it's bottom and going in it's eyes too. Anyway, that was so sad.....it was doing ok with eating and everything besides that, and I think it would have been ok, but we had to put it to sleep because of those maggots, being in it's insides and all of that. [:(][:(] I think that we called some rescue place for information, but didn't end up giving it to them or anything like that. I know we wouldn't have been able to keep it, because it's illegal, but it was still very sad. Ever since then I have absolutely hated maggots....even more than I did before. Anyway, that's my sad squirell story. Hope that everything goes well with those babies, sounds like they are in good hands [:)]

I read about how lots of them have fleas and maggots and stuff like that... thank goodness these didnt have anything on them, I doubt they would have lived.

Thank goodness Bailey didnt find them first.

Thanks for all the great comments guys! I am going to call the wildlife rescue sometime soon and try to get someone to give me and update.  Seems like they ought to do that, although when you call its just a big recording.  I'll try to find a way to get a person.
