    thursday chatting

Where did the week go? I think having tues off made this work week totally fly by. I may need to rearrange my schedule to have tuesdays off every so often. I had to turn my furnace on last night! How horrible is that? We were out in the rain last night for sar though and it got to the 40s and my boots were not so waterproof anymore and in general none of my stuff was very waterproof so i was flat out shivering when i went to bed. I think im going to fire up the hot tub this weekend. This is the time of year i like it most. Abbie did great on her searches and i was even able to call her off some bison that were penned up in the next field. That was a big time nervous moment. I knew she smelled them and ran to get a better look. When i called her back, she came but then went right back. She had a serious predetory stare going on. When i called her off the second time and added a leave it she did. Whew! I have never had the level of off leash trust with her that i have with neiko but obviously we are getting there. She is even beginning to partner with me on searches. Meaning when i direct her to go check an area, she goes and checks it thoroughly. Thats a big step for her. Up until lately all her searches have been independent of me. Anyway, better get a move on. Gotta go to brighton today!

I too have had problems figuring out what day it is.  With Fenway on Tuesday, altho not a day off, the week just seems odd.

We've got your weather coming our way, Julie.  Thanks for sharing!  My garden is so not ready to be done and I'm hoping that the lows in the 30's are the very HIGH 30's, or don't happen at all.

Dreary and rainy here today and then chilly chilly burr burr!  Makes it a bit difficult to dress accordingly!

Have a great day all.  Off to the salt mines.

Supposed to have a big temperature drop later today.  I hope every monster mosquito that has taken refuge in my water-logged back yard drops dead tonight.

I wish I was sharing that colder weather with you all. Its been in the 90's here, hot and humid. Only good weather for vacations...not everyday life like getting up and going to work, running errands, etc.

Good job Abbie on your recall! Suchagoodgirl!!

Last night Marley went back to school. Same place we have gone multiple times before...I just wanted him to have a refresher. Not that he needs it, but its good to have distractions around. I was so pleased with him! When he wasnt bored laying down thinking "mom dis is boooring, I alweady knows dis stuff!" he was keeping constant eye connection with me and waiting for me to  give him his next command. Although I like the trainer, we tend to "agree to disagree" most of the time. He wants Mar to think for himself (the trainer just hovers over him looking down at him and expects him to give him his paw without asking for it--figure out what the trainer wants "on his own";) where as I have trained Marley his whole life to react to verbal or sign language. Marley kept looking at him and looking at me like "WTF does he want? Is he stoopid?" LOL

I hope everybody has a great day!

Mouth feels better today.  It's more tender from the stitches than the extraction.  I can almost chew again.  I'm eating some M&Ms very carefully because I was going through withdrawals

It was 39 degrees this morning.  I put my comforter on my bed last night and zonked out.

Good thinking Deb.  One side bene to colder temps is that maybe the skeeter population will drop.  The past week we've been eaten alive by the blasted things.

    Good job, Abbie!

Tina, chocolate is my go to cure for everything.  :)

Hard for me to imagine those of you already dealing with colder weather.   We are supposed to get some cooler temps in a few days but not heater weather. :)

Coworker is the guy who looks at jobs so we can give an estimate.  All of us cringe when he says "this one will be a piece of cake".  lol  We're on day three of one of these jobs and it's been a nightmare job.  I always add extra labor when he describes a job this way.  Stick out tongue

Julie awesome stuff with Abbie!!! Congrats to you both!

We are supposed to be 93-94*  today and a high of 63* tomorrow, um OK LOL  Fall seems to have come directly on the heels of extreme heat.  Some trees are browning which seems really odd as we've been sort of upper 80's to low 90's and overnight low's in the mid 60's. Fabulous weather but not what I would expect to start the leaves turning

Bugsy boy personified joie de vivre this morning - lake trip and then I decided to give him a bath. Set off the longest most insane zoomies and towel destruction EVA!

Last night I met a friend whose Rottie died Sunday morning.  He was 9 but hadn't been ill, just didn't wake up Sunday morning.  His owner has had a hard life and is alone.  Harley was her steadfast companion and I do not think I have ever seen anyone so distraught - he was her center, he grounded her, gave her a reason to be home and gave her a feeling of being safe in a not great neighborhood.  I felt horribly sad to leave her last night.  I am praying she is OK and that she can redirect some focus to her children and new grandkids.

Deb I seem to be harboring several million mosquitoes in my yard too - i am for the first time ever considering spraying the yard so we can use it

Tina, glad your mouth is feeling better !

Good job Abbie and Marley  Yes

Chilly here too.  34 degrees overnight.  We covered some stuff in the garden.  This is normal.  Today's high will be about 55.  Back in the 70's this weekend.  It bounces all over the place for a while.  The house holds heat really well.  I had all the windows shut all day and it was still 68 when I got up this morning.  Now a couple windows are open  Smile

Waiting for "the carpet guy" to come this morning and put the basement carpet back in place.  Then the furniture can go back.  Most important is to get the entertainment center put back together so the Tivo can start recording all the new shows !!

Yes, they sure do.  This is how dogs get heartworms.  http://www.plymouthmosquito.org/dog_heartworm.htm

    Yes, they sure do.

But if you're up to date on the Frontline - should they be ok ??

Annie said to try spraying Bugsy and myself with original Listerine - I haven't tried it yet but am going to pick some up the next time I shop.  I watered my veggie garden the other evening and got 20+ bites in about 15 minutes.  you can see the bugs all around bugsy and he gets crazy and just wants to go in.  The weather is so nice it is just ridiculous to not be able to be outside

eta - Deb frontline does nothing for skeeters - Interceptor prevents heartworm

Drinking copious quantities of beer, however, is an excellent mosquito deterrent, no DEET required.
