I'm a bit sorry I posted -- I was just excited about a new project to help, but maybe someone will benefit by being made more aware to avoid scams.

Maybe this was some thing like a "test" to see if you were ready, and where you stand.  I'm sorry this feel through since I know you had gotten really excited about it.  Now that you are sure you're ready the right dog will turn up, I'm sure.

(((hugs))) for you and Uncle Davey :)

I wouldnt be a bit sorry at all, Nothing wrong with getting excited about a new venture you love doing.

You had no idea it would turn out this way.

Something will come along and maybe thier is a doggie out there that needs you more.

That's for sure -- the dogs needing our help have always seemed to find their way to our door.

and p.s. -- no way would I just hand anyone money.  I'll pay a vet for services **directly** but no way do I just hand money to people.  There are many reputable people out there, genuinely looking for someone to foster a special needs dog and the right one will find us.  I thought she was just fearful of trusting (since she hadn't asked me for money) so we tried to be patient and not jump ship just because the dog had high end needs that were undetermined.

Callie, my thought was more like maybe she wanted to do a "home inspection" to case the joint for a burglary... :-/ Really sorry about how it turned out for you guys. I would have been really excited, too, in your shoes - poo on them! What a frustrating disappointment. Perhaps there will be some fantastic new opportunity on the horizon that will be even more wonderful than this whole debacle was unpleasant. Yin and yang, and all that :)

Well, dang -- then I guess where I live was just a "little too far"???  -- but somebuddy would have been really disappointed in my ratty 30 year old drapes!!  LOL

At this point I'm laughing -- I mean really -- let's take doing a small good deed and make it into a big deal.  But it's got me aching to **do** something ... and that's a good thing.

Callie, I'm late seeing this but wanted to say I agree with Steph -- that maybe this all happened to help you see that you're ready to foster another special needs dog right now, even if it isn't this poor dog.  Even with all the verification and checking you'd expect to occur in a fostering "application process," it shouldn't involve obstacle after obstacle, with such a negative under-current.

I didn't even think about what Cita said (about someone scoping out your house), but that's certainly a possibility.  Also, it's not unusual to hear about scams involving animals (someone taking money for a puppy without ever intending to sell it to the person, etc.), so who knows what was really going on here.  I think it's best that it didn't work out.  I know you'll keep your ears and eyes open for a better situation.  We'll look forward to hearing about whatever that turns out to be!

Thanks again for everyone's kindness -- I wholeheartedly agree ultimately this will all be for the good.

I did send an email to this person listing all the red flags she ultimately raised for me because as time passed she did *not* present herself as any sort of reputable rescue person (and more and more as if she *was* scoping out my house!!).  She didn't want money -- but her refusal to give me ANY of her own vet's information so I could pay for some of the vet tests was one of the first **huge** red flags to me -- like I began to wonder if there WAS a vet or a dog!!  But she needs an adoption/foster form, and some basic standards to begin with if she *is* real.

I'ts all over and I actually sent out a few emails today to various friends in rescue in the area to keep an eye out for a dog we might be able to work with.  Our SPCA here in Central FL is really superb -- so it's a good time for me to keep my eyes open (that and the fact Luna and Tink will be happy that the Wiggle Waggle Walk is coming up next month!)
