Family disagreement over puppy

PLEASE PLEASE take the puppy!!! I can't stand it when people are stupid and don't take care of thier animals. Being locked in a car all day without anyone to play with, no water, and no where to pee is definately animal abuse in my opinion.

If somebody is abusing an animal or child, it's instantly your business.  I would call.

I "rescued" an ACD puppy from a friend's dad last year and signed it over to a rescue immediately... he couldn't get it back from them, and she ended up in a nice home.

Ash, do you mind my asking how old you are? I only ask because of the limitations of what you can  do.
You said in an earlier post that they are family or that is what your mother said, well they are not family right now, they no not what they do. That puppy needs a voice someone to speak out for it, and it has to be you and if you need help you need to recruit your aunt.  Did they get this dog from a breeder if so why don't you ask for the breeder's name, maybe say a friend is interested in a pup, I would call the breeder, to take back this pup.
You need to act now before something happens to this dog.

Update- I took the puppy! I considered just asking them if I could take it, but I know my cousin too well and it would've never happened. I took it to a friend of mine that is very familiar with rescues. She's a great dog owner herself and has fostered before. She's also a registered vet tech, so I know the pup is in good hands. She's said she may just foster it and work with some rescues until they find it a home. I know I did the right thing, but I can't help but feel guilty when I think of the kids and how much they loved that dog, even though they didn't treat it properly.  . . .  I really am relieved though. Just knowing that puppy won't be in a truck all day today is a wonderful feeling.

Hooray for Ashland!!!!![sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif] DO NOT feel guilty you did the right thing, you saved the pup from a life of h***.  The kids will get over it quickly they really don't need a puppy to kick around anyways.   If anyone asks be sure to deny it and put the whole situation behind you.  Lets hope they don't run out and get another pup.

Thank you Patt. [:)]  I don't think they'll get another one. I really hope they don't. With the problems they have right now, I'm hoping they realize they can't take care of one right now. I know my cousin's going to be really upset because she paid $400 for the puppy. That's why she'll be mad. I'm not gonna say anything. They won't ever suspect me. They'll think it was some random person. My aunt might think of me, but she would never say anything because she wanted the puppy out of there as well.

Oh thank goodness! I'm so glad you did that! Those kids needed to learn how to treat an animal before they had a pup, anyway. Good for you! Good job!!

Thank you so much everyone for your support! I knew I could find it here. [:D

I just got a call and I think my friend is considering keeping him for herself! She stayed home with the pup today and says that it's been too long since she had a puppy and this one just stole her heart. I really hope she keeps it because she is such a great person, with a huge heart. She's got about 2 acres in her backyard too and so just knowing she has space makes me feel good too.

I also spoke with my mom earlier and she told me that the puppy was missing. I pretended not to know anything and she didn't sound like she suspected me at all. She's worried that some psycho took it or something and I said, "Someone probably saw it in the car all day and decided to take it." She said, "I know. I was afraid that would happen." She said my cousin is REALLY mad, just like I said she would be. She's upset over the money down the drain. They went to the SPCA and a few animal shelters looking for it, but I had a feeling that they would do that so that's why I didn't take it there. I don't think their search will continue more than that.

I just re-read my post and realized that 2 acres may not be a lot to some of you on here, but let me tell you, 2 acres over here is GREAT! [:D]

    Ashland-

You did a good thing.  I also hope your friend keeps the new puppers.  Sounds like healing for everyone.  And that relief you felt after you took the pup, well that's just proof you did the right thing.

You know, I think the hardest thing about this is that if you do make the puppy disappear, they'll probably just go out and buy another one.

I think is the primary reason I always tell people to call APS or their local ACO.  Once the family comes to the attention of authorities, it's a little harder for them to abuse the next dog - and if they do, some judge may just decide that they can't own another one...
