Curious as to your reaction to this article

Read the article below and let me know if you would be offended.

I personally see nothing wrong with this.  If the city will allow Hooter restaurants and collect taxes from them then having their name connected to a fundraiser is no big deal.

    Just curious.

OK, first reaction before I read the article was yep, Hooters is explotive of women and I'd want no part of it.....that was confirmed by their initial ad, BUT they did change it to a dog in a tshirt, so I flip flopped a bit, and now think it's sort of ok even if they are an explotive chain.  Hows that for sitting firmly on the fence?  Ouch...those posts hurt!!

My only problem with this is... where's the hot beefcake brickhouse men to show off their goods?!! [:D] On a serious note, this doesn't bother me. If women want to put on their bikini's and strut their stuff for charity, good for them.

Sorry to have caused you pain!  Not my intent. LOL.

Hooters is not on my list of favorite eating places although I did enjoy their wings when I could have them.  I  think it is not so much exploitation of women as exploiting the stupidity of men!  No different than a lot of bars I've been in with scantily dressed women and even men at times. Seems the less people have on the more money gets spent.   Have no problem with money being used for the animals even if it comes from Hooters.

Maybe living in a beach town and being used to seeing people in bikinis going into the grocery store it doesn't bother me as much (may raise an eyebrow and shake my head but that's mostly jealousy[;)]).

Beauty is just like brains or money or connections or a super personality...if you have it in abundance you have an advantage over others at times...but it can always be temporary.

I've not ever had any problem with Hooters as a chain, ...and quite honestly I don't see the big deal. If I thought I looked good enough I'd be in a bikini or Daisy Dukes all the time lmao, esp for a good cause.

Meilani you are right...I want to see some hot hardbody men in there too!

I've got no issues with it.

I think it's wonderful that Hooters is doing some fundraising for Neutering! I even go there to eat with my BF, he says he likes the buffalo shrimp *coughs* uh huh, ya right! [:D] I have no issue with women that want to trot around scantilly clad. I would have an issue with it if the women were forced or coerced into the job, but they aren't. I think it is pretty silly that the City is having issues with the fundraiser.

Heck, if my figure looked like that, I'd probably want to flaunt it too.

hmm. Let's use sex to try to raise money to de-sex our pets. Weird message.
Me, I pick my eating places by how good the food is. I prefer my wait staff to be unobtrusive and not part of the entertainment.

It seems to me that the kind of guy who frequents a place like Hooters might just be the same kind of guy who doesn't want his dog neutered at all.  So having Hooters promote neutering is actually a great idea, in my opinion. [:D]

It's not even a city-sponsored event. Hooters is doing this on their own initiative. So what's the big deal? Take the money where you can get it, I say.  I'd take money from Ron Jeremy for an anti-pornography campaign if he offered it. [:D]

Sounds OK to me, too.   I think the name "Hooters for Neuters" is really catchy and if it helps with spays/neuters, that's super.  I don't have any problem with Hooters as a chain, either. Their waitresses aren't any more *scantilly clad* than a lot of people you see on the street.   My ONLY problem with Hooters ...  about a month ago DH and I were craving a good seafood dinner so off we went to one of our favorite places - "The Monterey Bay Cannery" - only to discover that it was now a Hooters.  Fortunately, there was another one not too far away. [:D]

    Ditto!

I agree with KaraAnn, these women are not forced to work at Hooters. So I don't see it as explotation necessarily. I think this fundraiser is a great idea. Anything to get the word out about the importance of spaying/neutering is wonderful. And not only that, they're raising money for the cause. Go Hooters!

you know,i have a problem with a group of people saying something like this is degrading to women, when the women in question have A)a mind of thier own B)want to do some thing for a good cause and C)are not doing anything illegal.

If you dont like the idea,i say donate to another benifit to spay and neuter and steer clear of the contest. If there was a "beefcake contest"for a spay and neuter program, would we be hearing about it bieng degrading to men??? lol...i don't think so..

;people need to lighten up.the person in the article speaks of empowering women, but only as long as she is not allowed to use what God gave her physically in a legal manner.i see it as hypocracy...
I also believe women can do anything a man can do,but also see no problem opening a door for a woman of any age, like i would do for another guy,out of courtesy..

ok...off the soap box...its all about the dogs.

OK let me rephrase....our society as a whole degrades women when they see them as nothing more than a collection of body parts.  The female breast was PUT there to nourish offspring, not to be an object of desire, lust or envy...but look what it's become?  It is not just men who are guilty of this, but women as well.

Here comes a comment from a self proclaimed ignorant man:

What's the story with the claim that things like Hooters, Playboy, Strip Clubs, GGW, etc. are exploitive to women?

I think we should focus our blame on the parents instead of the industries.  It seems to me it is a women's choice to do these things, and hasn't that what the fight has always been about.

I take full responsibility for my decisions...good or bad.  There have been some really bad ones.  I never blamed anyone else...if I was exploited it was with my permission...my permission means my fault.

I don't care for the food or service at Hooters, but I do commend them on there spay/neuter campaign.

"Hooters for Neuters." had me spit out my water when I read it - funny!  I don't really have any problem with the Hooters chain.  Never eaten there, but no opposition to their existence and other folks patronizing them.  I personally don't need to see tiny bikini-clad women on my city government website pages, though.

The folks who accepted the fund-raiser offer should learn a lesson from this and request that they have review/approve rights on all published advertising materials, if they're going to act embarrassed by them now.  I don't mind the event with the altered advertising (ie, draw attention to the ANIMALS), and I think Jen is on to something with the theory of bringing education to the men who refuse to neuter their dogs.

I wonder if there will be a backlash from that demographic?  That they will boycott Hooters for promoting neutering their precious dog nuts... hahah!
