I'm just curious

Lou-dog, I would probably stick with Eagle Pack if it's affordable. It's a good food and a lot of people swear by it. Another food you might want to try is Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. It's about the same price as Iams, but MUCH better ingredients.

I personally think that Timberwolf Organics has the best ingredients. And I like that they have a lot of different varieties, so there are a lot of options for rotating foods within the same lines. Unfortunately my Shih Tzu seems to have allergies so I had to switch him to a much simpler food- California Natural Lamb & Rice. Sometimes simple is good too though.

Up until a week ago, I fed my dogs Evolve (that's what the breeder fed her dogs), but i could only get the 40lb bag over the internet. So we have a small but very nice pet store near us and I asked them for an equivalent and they suggested Merrick. Right now they are eating the wilderness blend from Merrick. You all seem to know so much of what is good dog food. How does merrick stack up?

Wellness is/was a good food.  But when they changed the dry formula ("better tasting") my dog got the runs almost immediately.  I tried to re-introduce it 4 or 5 more times (thinking maybe she just had an upset tummy that day.)  But every time = the same results.

We tried several other things after that and ended up on Solid Gold Wolf King... w/a tablespoon of Wellness canned mixed in to entice her to eat.
Bottom line, whatever works for your dog is what's good.

You know, I've noticed that even though we're feeding what I thought was a premium food, there is an awful lot of poop to pick up. It took me so long to decide on Wellness, though. I'm overwhelmed by all of the options!

If your dogs are doing well on it, I'd stick with it.  It's just that with Sally she was pooping HUGE piles like, 3 or sometimes 4 times a day.  Then there was the flakiness, and we just thought we could do better.

from what i have found locally canidae is one of the more affordable premium foods. it is priced similarly to chicken soup at our local pet store (ie. less than $1/pound).

right now we are feeding blackwood to our dogs sydeny gets bw 2000 and amelia gets bw 3000.

we had amelia on nutro natural choice for a while. we fed her the chicken & oatmeal as she has a somewhat sensitive stomach. she did ok on it, but her fur is much softer on the blackwood.

not sure where you live or where you shop for dog food, but if there is a "feed & seed" (like sells livestock feeds) store near you check with them. the one near us carries several of the premium food lines.

X eats Blue Buffalo mixed with Solid Gold Wolf Cub.  Treats are either freeze dried liver, freeze dried beef, or various premium kibble trial packs.

Now I feed her Nature's Variety kibble and she's doing better on it than she has any other food.

I'm seriously considering adding the raw medallions to her diet, but everytime I bring it up DH starts whining--I'll sneak it in somehow...

Hee, Hee.  Hungry Hound's has it buy 1 get 1 Free.

Now I'm going to embarrass you.  Silly Sally, or Silly Sally's owner, is the person walking my dog Joey in avatar.  Nice feet.

Canidae (for the Collies).  I rotate between that and Innova Adult (every 8-12 mos)
Nature's Variety Raw Instinct (for the grain/potato allergic westie)

Natural Balance all formulas except the ultra
and I just got Eagle pack to add to our rotation.

We tried Solid Gold and they loved it, but the had more poops on it.

Royal canin gave her horrible gas.
