    Your fashion history

    Okay folks,

If you could bring back into fashion ONE item, style, trend from a bygone fashion era, what would it be?

If you could permanently and irrevocably remove from the annals of history ONE fashion trend, item, or style what would that be?

    Here are mine,

bring back-The corset (for men AND women)

    Remove utterly-the sensible shoe

bring back: regular fitting, all cotton jeans

get rid of: low riding pants of any type.  I've seen far too much bum for my lifetime, and not in a good way.

More corsets would be awesome....though I cannot picture a man in one.

Bring back hair au naturelle (no blow dryers, just wear whatcha got!)

Make guys pants worn with the waist just above their knees so their belt that hobbles their knees in an attempt to keep them on shows BELOW their football jersey???  I'm gonna get arrested some day for coming up behind them to step on the jeans puddled around their ankles so they completely fall off.  These are worse than plumber's 'crack' any day!  gag

oh yeah -- and make guys gel'd hair up into a point on their head go away.  Martin Short was making FUN of that on SNL long before it was fashion and it still makes me think of him every time I see it and I always then check if the same guy has plaid pants pulled up under his armpits like Martin did.

I am pretty close to this although I do semi dry my hair (now that it is shorter)  I cant wait til it gets longer :)

MMMMM, let see I really wanted leg warmers to come back in, then I see this year that they did.  I am with Tina on the jeans thingy but then I do remember hip hugger bell bottoms in my day.

I wish hats would come back in for women.   I love hats I wear them alot, however; due to an HR seminar, we now have it written in the employee manual that we cant wear hats at the office...grrrrr....so if I wear my hat, I have to take it off when I enter the building then I have hat hair all day til I leave.  In the 40's and part of the 50's (before my time) a woman didnt leave the house without a hat.  Now you cant wear one in a theater and some public places.   Ok, now I will step down from my soap box Big Smile

Sorry Gina but I would banish high heels.I would bring back the hairstyles of the 40's.

I love hats too. I don't look good in a baseball cap but other hats look great on me and I'd love a reason to wear them.

I don't care for the hip huggers now but I sure liked them when I was a teenager.

You're reading my mind - pretty much any fashion from the '40s

Bring back:  Modest clothing!!  I'm not a prude and don't mind a bit of leg or cleavage but c'mon people!

Get rid of:       Enough with the string tank tops, belly shirts, pants hanging off your rear. ,that is pretty comical- last week we went to OSH (like a home depot) and got some things from the back.  This guy was helping us with our pickup, low rider pants, boxers poofed out and he couldn't walk w/out them falling down  So then he did this bowlegged walk to keep them up.  Seems like a waste of energy, and honestly, what is so cool about wearing pants 3 sizes too big and showing off your underwear?

Baby girl clothes that are WAY too revealing, they're babies!! Please don't dress them like teenage popstars!

    I couldn't agree more!!

Bring back hats - I love wearing hats - dress hats, not just BB

Lose the muffin top pants look and the "gut hanging out front" girls.  Someone needs to tell them that it is never fashionable to show off your pudgy belly - ever, I don't care if its tanned and pierced - its nasty.

    • Gold Top Dog
    Totally agree about fun hats!

I'd bring back more dress-wearing, and/or long skirts. I love, love, love dresses... but I also dress very casually, and would be very out of place wearing a dress to most of the places I go. I hate short skirts/dresses/shorts, because I am very skinny except for a large rear end and (proportionally) giant thighs. Why would I want to draw attention to my weakest parts??

I'd get rid of... puffy-shouldered women's blouses. Maybe it's just me, but I look ridiculous in them. Also! 99% of all "empire waist" shirts, and many dresses. They look beautiful and elegant... for maternity clothes! But make people look pregnant whether they actually are or not!

    • Gold Top Dog

omg yes to the empire waist - peasant girl shirts. gawd, they are so not flattering!
