sigh* I wish doc's would be more careful throwing this A word out and about the way they do. Lily went thru a stage where she was terrified of the docs too. She was SURE she was getting a shot or something awful. Not suprisingly this was shortly after she had a urinary thing and they needed to use a CATHETER on her...at about 2-3 years old. Yeah trauma at that age...even the relatively minor trauma of frequent visits for an illness...can do that to kids. It does not mean they have autism. That is something you rule out or in with extensive TESTING...not like that *snaps fingers*.
Pet peeve...sorry...but you can understand why I bet LOL.
Yep, I knew you would understand. She (her JRA) doc didn't actually say those words to me but it was in the report I got a couple of weeks later. She did temper it when we talked that she doesn't see alot of little ones so it may be normal, but to bring it up just in case. Keep in mind this was right after she got removed from dance class because of behavioral issues and we had to cancel school because she refused to potty train.
I LOVE my pediatrician, he is so even keel, practical, down to earth, etc. He said he's got one like Riley at home too (he has 5 kids) and they figured she would either become President or end up in prison. LOL He set my mind totally at ease. I don't think people (meaning some docs and nurses) realize how much she has been through the past year with the blood tests, eye exams, MRI's, x-rays, doctor after doctor, etc. They think I am just being high maintenance when I ask everyone to take off their "whites", etc. Her ped doc totally gets it. He gave me a list of books that would help us better understand Riley and her behavior and how to work with it, not against it. He also said that he can tell how she greets him (warm, smile, inviting, etc.) says alot of her personality, etc. He sees past the freaking out and sees my lively little peanut in all her wonderful vivacious self.
ETA - he also said that so frequently now a days everyone wants to label their kids and its totally unnecessary and that I shouldn't have to put myself through an autism testing and listen to a lot of psycho babble when she shows zero signs of autism outside of the doctor's office.
