    Monday mumblings

Hi Deb!  I see you out there!  How's the foot coming along?

Cita, from yesterday, is your b/f feeling a little insecure being apart, hence the question of marriage?

Went to the shelter to walk dogs yesterday.  Sadly, we are packed to the gills despite adoptions.  It never ends.  I'm being pressured to adopt or at least foster, but it's not a good time for me.  Even we caretakers need a break and I don't think it is wrong to take it.  Doesn't mean I don't care, but I know my limits.

I was told I "clean up nice" by someone who usually only sees me at the shelter, but happened to run into after work at the grocery store last week.  It was sort of funny.

It hasn't even been a week and I'm bored out of my mind.  The big highlight of my weekend was wrapping my foot in plastic wrap and taking a shower !!  Jamison is out of his mind with all the make-out time we have though.

    ETA:  Jackie  . . . how's Twister this morning??

Wintery mix here.  More sleet than anything else but major mess for so early in the day.  Blech.  Very cold and VERY windy too.  Guess this is part of a Noreaster that's hitting the coast.

The shoulder is so far behaving.  But, unfortunately I never know when it's going to get PO'd or what it is that I do to tick it off.  Already called the ortho and waiting for a call back.

Today seems like a very good day to hibernate.

Deb, yeah recovery is totally boring.  But, it'll be worth it, right?

lol, Deb - I think Jamison may actually be sad once you're more mobile again!

Glenda, sending you "get called back soon" thoughts.

Tina, BF mentioned that he's concerned about my publications. Basically, whatever name I start publishing with (like maiden name), that's the one I have to keep publishing with forever, because if anyone wants to search for my papers, they won't be able to find them if they're listed under two names. So if you're thinking to get married sooner or later, then "sooner" is a better idea. That said, I also don't want to get married, change my name, publish under my married name, and then get divorced and have to keep that name for the rest of my career! Such complications! Anyway, I think that's why BF brought it up now. I think he's feeling much more secure in the relationship than I am, anyway - he kind of takes for granted that I will always be around, I think.

One of my former bosses used her maiden name for anything work-related. It caused a tiny bit of confusion but nothing major.

I have an eye dr. appt at 8:45, so I get to hang out at home longer than usual and I'm loving that. It's pretty foggy this morning, so I'm glad that at least it's light earlier. I did wake up at 5 rather than 6 and that's after going to bed later than usual.  I'd actually thought about taking today off but decided since I had to get up and out for a dr. appt., I might as well just go in.

Glenda - I hope you hear something from your dr. soon.

First off good thoughts to those that are in need, esp Tiff and Tootsie!

This weekend was super nice...we are pinching pennies a wee bit owing to the new door (HOInsur is a joke btw) and security alarm stuff. BUT we opted to do a fire in the firepit on Saturday night, make hot dogs and watch a movie all together...it was so much fun! The kids and dogs both love the whole firepit experience. The hounds go completely batty over the marshmallows...it's hyseterical.

Lots more pics from Saturday night at FB....

Sunday brought us a WONDERFUL unexpected gift in the form of a CLEVELAND BROWNS VICTORY over the NE PATS! Whee!! Much joy here in Mudville that day LOL. So happy our team is finally getting it together.

We've got the alarm pretty well figured out now, and I used it this a.m. when I took the kids to school. I feel much better sitting here typing from where I cannot see the front door now. Smile

I hope everyone is lovin DST ending as much as I am..and have as great a Monday as is possible...considering it's well...Monday. LOL.

Ahhhh, tomorrow, 1:45.  Hopefully we can get the MRI scheduled and out of the way and hopefully it shows nothing new so I can get the botox injections and get on with life.  I swear, when it flares up it's like having last stage of labor contractions in the area between the shoulder socket and the neck.......I'm a pretty tough old broad, but those can bring me to my knees and make me cry.

Tina, I really admire your efforts at the shelter and also your wisdom about knowing what your limits are.  I barely brush my hair when I go to the grocery store.  No one would recognize me there if I cleaned up too much. lol

Glenda, hope you hear from the ortho office soon.

Courtney, couldn't you keep your maiden name for your professional work and maybe hyphenate your name when and if you get married.

Deb, sorry you're so bored but I'm jealous of all the make out time you're getting with Jamison. :) Thanks for asking about Twister.  He's still limping this morning.  I think I'll see if the vet can see him when I take Belle in for her shots this morning.

Poor little Twister. Hope the vet can take a look, and fingers crossed it is something simple and easily fixed. (Invisible splinter? Injured toenail?)

Gina, is that a marshmallow in mid-air in this shot?

Jackie, thanks for the vote of confidence.  I hope Twister's owie isn't too serious.

Cita, thank goodness you have a sensible head on your shoulders.  Is b/f afraid of missing out on some glory if he's not related by marriage to you as an author?  That's mostly rhetorical, you don't have to answer.  I'm a bit skeptical about marriage myself since I did it for the wrong reasons the first time.

Courtney I just kept my maiden name and added my married name - its a strange one to have hyphenated so I didn't and I prefer non-hyphenated and if you search me by my maiden name or with my added surname its all good. Definitely not something to fret about.

Jackie good luck with Twister today and keep us posted.

Tina, its very wise to know your limits and be able to stick to them!  Problems always arise when people take on things they know they really aren't ready to.

It was a full frost this morning - very pretty but once again I had to block the deck from Bugsy, it was so slippery.  He likes to coming flying onto it from a full speed launch which on ice = a big crash into the porch LOL.  The sky is just so blue - you can look up into it and see all the floaters in your eyes Stick out tongue

Deb speed healing vibes your way - just spoke to my mom and she is fed up of the restrictions too - she starts PT tomorrow so that should help.

Tina, haha, no way - he's going to be publishing his own papers :) (and honestly couldn't care less about mine, other than that I'm happy with them - they wouldn't affect his career at all) I think more it's a sudden realization, "Hey, we've been dating for 7 years, and suddenly there are actual consequences to our being married vs. not - maybe it's time to get serious!" He said he is trying to figure out what the right balance is between "jumping in too soon" and "just postponing marriage indefinitely." I think it's a good question, but I have no idea what the answer would be. I'm more concerned that he wants to get married for "the right reasons" (whatever those may be), and not "the wrong reasons" (like pressure from his mom!).

It's hard to see but Eli is holding a stick. Maybe a wire clothes hanger? That's what we used to use. Pics are great tho Gina and it looks like you all had fun. Does anyone else like their marshmallows kind of burnt?

Jackie - I hope there's nothing serious going on with Twister.

ding ding ding!! Guess is correct Cathy! Black wire coathanger that doesn't show up in the pic...Sully wanted it tho, however it was being restrained LOL! YES...burn the holy beejeebers outta them please!

Poor Elias blew on the one he had...so hard the wire bent away from his face then SMACKED back into his nose..so basically he got a flaming marshmallow ON HIS NOSE. He did actually get a little burned but we took care of it. He was more careful after that and asked US to blow them off. Poor kid. But honestly if he learns even MORE respect for fire it's probably a good thing. She is a fickle mistress! Best be too careful vs not careful enough...especially if you're a 7 year old boy with "priors"!
