Do you enjoy your job?

    Do you enjoy your job?

i was just thinking today how much i love being a pet portrait artist, sure, i don't make a fortune but i really really love it, especially the happy responses from customers. i never thought i'd be doing it, i did love art at school and got pretty good grades but they never taught any style of portrait art at school, animal or person.

i love how there's always a new type of breed to draw and especially enjoy doing portraits of really happy dogs with their tounges out [:D] i also love looking for dogs in different poses to draw and add to my private collection, they are really beautiful and i never get tired of it.

i definately have times when it's a little harder, like when i get a blurry photo lol but it's more of a challenge i guess and it always ends up working out....plus, it can be sad working on a dogs portrait that has passed on, i did a portrait of a basset hound once and he was like a child to his people, i know they were happy but i could tell they still missed him a lot.

funny thing is, i haven't actually done a portrait of my pets yet, iv'e got a dog and two cats.

so what does everyone else do for work? and do you enjoy your job....or just tolerate it [:)]

I do accounts payable and I enjoy the job.  I only tolerate a couple of my direct co-workers, though!

    is that like accounting?

my husband Jeff is an accountant, He likes his job most of the time but wants to work for himself soon. He's been doing it for a long time now and like any job i guess it gets monotinous (sp?) but he does get along with his co-workers.

my only experience with that type of thing was a small course in MYOB accounting but i'd rather be at home working....i can do the housework that way and work at the same time lol

i would have loved to have been a vet but i'm too squeemish and i'd take home every animal that was brought in to be put to sleep....so that was out of the question [:)]

I had not worked for 17 years and we needed some extra income bad. I got a job just to have a job, but by the 3rd week I fell in love with it. It's at a daycare and I truly love my job and I have great co-workers. It's one of the best things that could have ever happened to me.
I have been there for one year this coming tuesday.

During the winter, I'm a ski instructor and work with the 4-6 year olds. I enjoy the job, although, to be honest, it sometimes proves to be very trying. We often end up with nightmare children in the program [&o]. Or, parents put their children in a level too high and one of us intructors ends up having to bring the kid down with him/her between our skis so he/she doesn't go flying off down the hill and get hurt/hurt someone. So now we hav eto "test" the kids on the bunny hill before we take them out to do the chairlifts... unless of course, they are bunny hill level [:D].

I do home therapy with children with autism. Mostly we're working on the same goals as in school, unless of course there is a goal that is home specific. I LOVE it! I think it has a lot to do with the families of the kids I work with. They are great. They are so nice to me. I couldn't ask for better. I feel like I am so spoiled by working with great families, because I will probably never again be dealing with such great parents, who are willing to get whatever they need to get, or do whatever they need to do. I also doubt that I will ever be dealing entirely with parents who love me so much either, but instead i'll have some people who hate me for one reason or another.
It also pays well, but it would be better if I got paid more often, and more quickly. I only get paid about once a month, most of the time. There have been times when it has taken longer to get my check, and one rare time when it was actually less than that.

I just finished school with a degree in elementary education.  So until I find a job, I am substituting...it's ok, but I can't wait until I get a classroom of my very own!  The best part is the hours...I have lots of extra time for my dogs!

Hey, Keith - what radio show do you produce (I'm in Mpls)?

I work in the mortgage industry for a large company in Risk Management.  Specifically, I manage a team of 7 who support a compliance testing group - they test the loans we originate and service for compliance with federal regulations and state and investor requirements.  We manage the test data through reporting and data mining in databases and also physical file management - safely, securely handling and transporting customer files for use in testing.  And I LOVE the information management aspect of the work; troubleshooting reports that don't balance, building new ones for specific purposes, drilling for data that supports root cause analysis...

I'm going to Compliance School next week and I'm kind of excited.  All of the regs I only know from association with test data. It will be cool to get at the source of what I do.

    I'm a big nerd!

I used to sell real estate full time, until the shelter called to me and now I work as a vet tech there.  Love them both.

I teach art at a boys ranch. I really like my job! The kids come from very troubled pasts, and can be difficult at times, but it's cool to see their creative side. My husband is the residential director at the same boys ranch. He is awesome at his job, and it's kinda nice having my husband as "the big boss". Officially I awnser to the school principle, but the boys always know in the back of their mind "don't mess with Karin, she's the bosses wife." It really works to my advantage!

I would say the only things I don't like about my job are 1. some of the teachers I work with are difficult to be around and 2. it's hard when kids that I am close too are discharged. I worry about them for months after they leave. I always hope that they will do well, and make positive decisions, but often they go right back into their old life, running the streets. Sometimes even the kids that do go home, and make positive choices, don't make it. They are under so much pressure, and usually have very little support at home. One of my little guys died last summer, that was really tough. You always have those questions like "Was he discharged to early? Did I do everything I could for him?"

I love my job.  I'm a chef and partial owner of a local restaurant here in my town.  Its nice because my hours are pretty flexible, and i work with great people.  Its also nice that the retaurant is pretty popular, we get a lot of take-out orders, and on weekends we're crowded and have people lining up out the door.

I also volunteer at a local animal shelter now, i started about a month and a half ago.  I donate a part of the restaurants income to support the shelter.

Before I moved, I taught history at a university. I liked it, but some of the students were too childish. Now, I'm fixing up stuff in the house and waiting to hear from some local school boards.

I am a teacher in Brooklyn. I teach English as a Second language in an elementary school and work with immigrant children from around the world.  It can be very difficult as they all come from different societies and cultures, are going through a life changing move and experiences, and most have seen many hardships in their lives (war, hunger, poverty, social injustice, etc.)  Also, they all speak many different languages, so communication can be challenging, but we make it through, and they learn English very quickly!

I LOVE my job very very much.  The exposure to different cultures is what I live for, and the children are very charming!

I wouldn't trade my job for anything....

and as someone stated earlier, as a teacher you have a LOT of extra time for your sweeties (dogs!!).
