Erm, how would one dress for an interview at a humane society? It's for an office position. Gah, I hate thinking about what to wear, considering these days I work in my pjs....

P.S. If Ari farts one more time, I may bring her with me to the interview and forget to take her home! Ick!

Stephanie, the little bruiser SHOULD have been crying his eyes out.  He could have caused some serious damage "playing" that way.  And, the coach was STILL wrong, regardless of his reasons, to allow the boy back into the game at all.  The refs shouldn't have allowed it either.

Glenda, just found out there will be a coaches meeting tonight about what happend. Can't wait to hear what's going to happen.

A nice pant suit would be my best guess.  Business is business even if it's dog business. lol   You could put one of those lint rollers in your front pocket to show you're ready for anything. Wink  Good luck!!

Tina, I'm sorry, and that super sucks. Over-worked and under-paid, for sure!!!

Sharon, as for the interview outfit... so, if you were interviewing for a job working at a horse barn, you would be expected to show up in (everything very clean, of course!) jeans, a crisp polo shirt, and work boots. Showing that yes, you want to be professional and respectable, but you're also not afraid of getting dirty. So, I guess my question would be what does an "office position" really mean? Will you also be working with the animals? If not, I'd definitely agree with a suit - why not? You can always take off the jacket to dress it down! If you WILL be working with the animals, you might want to try to "cover all bases" and wear something that's both practical and "nice." Maybe well-pressed khakis and a button-down shirt or something? Either way I'd advise "sensible shoes"! Since you never know what you might have to walk through!

Sharon, the women at the front desk at the shelter I worked at did intakes and some other miscellaneous animal handling so Cita's advice is spot on.  When I interviewed for my position (considered non-kennel staff but still working with animals and the public) I wore a polo shirt and khakis with my Danskos (work shoes) and it worked very well.

Thank you ladies for the garlic tips.  Think since they are such a late harvest, I'll let them mature and then freeze them.

The aroma of the beef stew is driving me nuts......making me ravenous!

    That is all.

Thanks, Jackie & Courtney, for the moral support.  I think as a reward I should be allowed to take a 2-hour lunch tomorrow.  Oh, the nap will be delightful...Wink

Glenda, you might know this already, but you can eat them even when they're green. They're a bit trickier to peel, but they're a bit mellower tasting than when they're dry. Sooooo good roasted, or sauteed with veggies....!

Tina, I agree. Nap away! :-p

    • Gold Top Dog

I did NOT know that.  Hmmmm, maybe I'll just roast them all.

I **love** roasted garlic!! :) BF's mom will often just peel and halve the cloves, stick them in a skillet with olive oil for 10 mins or so on super-low, then crank up the heat, add green beans or broccoli or squash, and call it done. I was horrified the first time I saw whole cloves of garlic in the veggies, but after trying it, it was really quite good! Basically skillet-roasted garlics!!

If you decide to plant next year, let me know and I can send you a few cloves of fun varieties, if you want to try them :) BF's mom grows a ton of different kinds... Russian Red, Korean Red, Italian Red, German White, Music, Xian... She buys them mail-order from some place in Oregon. But of course only once per variety, since then she re-plants her best ones. Within 3 generations of selective planting like that they really adapt to the specific soil/environmental conditions and produce WAY bigger plants/cloves. It's really remarkable!

I'm not much of a gardener, but I (obviously) think growing garlic is really cool!! Maybe some day if I have a place to plant I can try my own hand, instead of just being the sous-chef-gardener. ;)

I often sautee minced garlic and then add veggies, and it is GOOD!

Of course I'm gonna plant!  Gracious, I've got a ready made garden spot!

    • Gold Top Dog

interesting!  I might just have to try my hand at growing garlic next year.  I just got myself a garlic press since I hate mincing garlic, and sometimes you just need to be able to spread it rather than whole cloves (like garlic bread)!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh, check out the spegetti recipe thread for Gingers method of making a garlic spread.  Looks heavenly and I'll be doing some myself very soon!

    Aw garlic... good stuff!

My grandma can be so mean in a nice way. So talked with her over the phone telling her how excited I was about my new job. All seemed well in our conversation until she told me that "it' nice you have a job but once you find another 'real job' you can stop playing around with animals and"... blah... Not this again! She was so proud of me when I was a scientist but now that I'm back to doing what I love she just can't understand. Believe me Grandma, cleaning up after about 100 cats in one day is by far more emotionally and physically demanding then cleaning up nuclear waste like I did my my last "real job". I couldn't tell her that out loud but was sure thinking it. I just said ok, agreed with her to keep her happy and got off the phone so I could wipe a little tear from my eye then pulled myself together once more and grab a drink. Tomorrow an old dog is going to get some extra special hugs from me to help me see once more why I do the things I do.

It just made me realize that moving far away from that kind of stress that I lived under for so many years is probably the best thing I have ever done in my life. That is just the tip of the iceberg of what I got away from. For once I am doing things my own way that make me happy!

Good luck with the interview tomorrow, Sharon!

My new guy will, most likely, make it longer than a week.  Even if he is difficult, his clients love him, & that's my biggest concern.

My brother & SIL to be's cat got it's tail caught in a door, & ripped about half of it off.  SIL called me freaking out because the cat was running around the house with bone exposed.  I ended up going over to get the cat, & taking it in to be seen.  A friend is going to be doing the amputation, & I'm going to go help out with it.  I'm not sure who I feel more sorry for, the cat or the SIL.  (SIL is taking it very hard, even though she didn't slam the door on his tail.  She closed one door, & the suction forced the other door closed on his tail.)  The cat is a mellow guy, & when I got to him, he was happy to see me, & to give me lovins.
