This is what we've done so far: As soon as she bolted the family and many neighbors canvassed their neighborhood. Then they called me. In hindsight, they should have let her be and called me first. I think they just chased her away (in her mind). They called the police to alert them, and the animal control. By the time DH and I got there it was almost midnight, so we canvassed by ourselves with just me calling her like I normally would, but nothing. This morning the other family contacted all the animal shelters and animal control. They canvassed again, and then drove to the animal shelters to check the dogs that are there and fill out paperwork on Kenya so they know what to look for if new animals come in. She has the microchip and ID, but this way if she slips her collar or they can't read the chip, they will still know she belongs to us and contact us. I went there this morning with Nikon and canvassed on foot, then drove a wider area. The wife made posters and she went around to any local businesses to alert them and hang posters. I went home for a while b/c I'm sick with the flu and kind of over-exerted myself this morning, but when I felt better I took Nikon back, canvassed a different area on foot, and a wider area in the van. The husband is a police officer so he's notified the area police and all his buddies to keep a watch. All the neighbors and much of the neighborhood already knows she's missing. This afternoon I received one call from a woman who saw her last night looking very spooked on a VERY busy street but just a block from where she was lost. I feel like we've all been very thorough in the immediate area, checking backyards, under bushes, behind fences, I really don't think she's anywhere within several blocks of her original spot, unfortunately. When she's been separated from me, even just for a few hours at home, she will bark and whine excitedly, so I kept listening for that and even listening to people's houses in case someone took her in. Any time I heard a dog bark in the distance, I went that way to see if they were barking at her. There are some really busy streets but the inside blocks of the area are rather quiet, so when I call (not even shrieking so I don't scare her more) it carries about a block in all directions. I think she's just been on the move, looking for me but not knowing where to go. She could be many miles away by now or she could be relatively close but just moving. Luckily, she got away just inside the northwest quadrant of the city, so it's a very populated/urban area, so either way she goes there's so many chances for people to see her. What sucks is that I live in the extreme southeast edge, so it takes a while to get to where she might be, and before last night I'd never even been near that area before despite it being in the same city. Now I know it like the back of my hand!
